seroquel and lithium

I am on lithium it has had the worst side effects. i take 1200mg a day. it was making me sick, i was shaking, throwing up and all kind if other stuff. They didnt want to take me off of it because my lithium levels were perfect also. It took a few months of playing with the meds they add to it to get it right.Now i am on lithium celexa and ambien and it seems to be no trouble since october other than me gaining weight.

I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...

The Seroquel xr for about two and a half months. The Lithium for over ten years. The Lithium, I do not believe it causes weight gain. Seroquel xr, yes. It, so far is the best antipsychotic I have ever taken, we'll see as the time goes on. I gained about fifteen pounds at first on Seroquel xr! I cut out most colas, I never have been a snacker. It does not make me crave food or sugar, it just adds weight.

has anyone had stomach problems with lithium and lamictal while takimg them at the same time?.....

I've just changed docs and now he has put me on seroquel, i was on lithium. I was wondering is seroquel better than lithium? I was only diagnosed 18mths ago and already been on three different meds???

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2 last year and after trying a million meds, my perfect cocktail was Pexeva 20 mg, Lithium 300 mg and Seroquel 300 mg. I was happier than I had ever been, but the Seroquel caused major weight gain and major sleepiness-I was falling asleeo at work. I went off Seroquel and tried Abilify and one other (cant remember) but they did not work. I am now backon Seroquel 300 miligrams along with my Lithium and Pexeva.

I've just come off of trying to switch to Seroquel monotherpy. I maxed out on 800mg of Seroquel before I was able to totally get off of lithium and hadn't even started to lower my Lamictal dose. I don't tolerate lithium well and side effects have gotten much worse over time. Lamictal has been okay for me as long as we watch the dose - it's very reactive to hormones and that has been a huge problem. Was soooo looking forward to only one mood stabilizer...

hi i take seroquel xr and normal seroquel for bipolar disorder. the seroquel xr is a slow release tablet so it works over the night and the day. so i take the seroquel xr 450mg at about 7.30pm then at about 9.30pm i take the normal seroquel 250mg. it helps with sleep too.

now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely. i am curently on trileptal and seroquel but still have anxiety and hypomania. i don;t know what to do. has anyone had similar experiences with ect and/or with low dose lithium?

i take lithium btu i havent gone through anything like that though.. i have gained like 30 pounds on it and and got the shakes really bad.. when my dose was to high it made me throw up but nothing major...

Hi I'm pregnant to :) due 7th August 2010. I've been on depakote and lithium and doing really well on it but as soon as I discovered I was pregnant I've had to come off the depakote. I'm seeing my psych on Monday to discuss what's happening with the lithium, I understand there can be issues with this during the last trimester of pregnancy. I'm hoping I can continue with the lithium as I don't want to be off all my medication.

Hello, I take Lithium and Seroquel . The Seroquel increase's appetite and weight gain but i have no issue's with Lithium except dry mouth and dehydration sometime's ,so i drink lot's of water . It's a mood stabilizer and work's well for me and you need regular blood test's so your Lithium levels are not too high .

Because i have had adema but i was on lithium and Seroquel at the same time and i always thought it was caused by the lithium not the Seroquel but i guess i could have been wrong. You may want to get a blood test because adema is linked to health conditions as well such as hypothyroidism ( not saying you have it as I'm not a doctor) If you lay on your back with your feet in the air or with your feet above your head, that will help the fluid go away.

there are several people on this forum who are taking Lithium and have had fantastic results, although you need regular blood work and check ups with your doctor..... I think that if you do well on the Lithium and taper of the Seroquel then the Klonopin you'll do just fine.....ILADVOCATE is pretty knowledgeble about this stuff... you could probably get a lot of info from him.... Yeah, the whole battle has been a two headed beast... The Lamictal and Neurontin combination has worked for me and it's not like it just stopped. The mood swings are nowhere near as bad they were before I was placed on them. So, I would prefer to just plays with those medications and find solid dosages. The other option is drastic; get off of the Lamictal, figure out if it was causing the bad reaction to Seroquel and Lithium and work from there..

It really depends on the condition you are in and how your illness effects you. I was on Seroquel Xr for 10 months and it fixed me up, but destroyed my personal life completely. Made me entirely robotic, so I decided it just wasn't worth it. Generally a mixture of either lamictal or lithium and another anticonvulsant is required, once you've balanced out, to maintain a healthy balance.

Since taking seroquel for bipolar my life has slowed down enormously and I have gone from being very active to the most inactive I have ever been in my life. I lack motivation to do even the most basic things, and I have other side effects. My pdoc believes that this lack of motivation etc is depression, which I'm sure it is but he wants me to increase the seroquel substantially as he believes that it will help.

just over a week ago i was told I have bipolor and they put me on Seroquel now that I have been on its for a week I feel like I can think better befor I got on it I was out of control and had a anger problem some of my anger i can recall what happen but I did some real bad things and I just want to now if what im feeling is the meds making me better or something else Thanks Kevin

Hi. I am bipolar and currently taking Lithium, Neurontin, Seroquel & Lamictal. I have only been on the Lamictal for about 7 weeks, starting @ 25mg & every 2 weeks adding another 25mg; thus I am currently @ 100mg per day.

This dose is working for me and is not an overdose. My moods have been BAD BAD BAD as of late, so in addition to the seroquel being increased, so has my lithium.

Because I once tried lithium for one day to check mood stabilizers and the same phenomenon occurs i started running in the house, so it could be the lithium and the seroquel was masking it. So as seroquel was gone you got the side effect of lithium. People get used to the latter i didn't for even one day. The best thing go back to your pdoc in this.

I'm seeing my psychiatrist in two day's time so i'm going to try hang in there until then , and i'm on Seroquel Xr too , but like what you said Crystal i don't know if it's because of the Lithium or if it's happening regardless but that's why they put me on i think to stabilize my moods because they were all over the place before i started the Lithium it's just that thing's have gotten worse i'm confused , all i know is they are trying to treat the moo

Hi jester, I have had horrible dreams for a very long time. They were so bad that they would bug me all day. I think they were from anxiety. But my pdoc put me on seroquel to stop the bad dreams and it honestly did, I am also now on lithium as well and haven't had a horrible dream since I started (about 1 month ago). SO fingers crossed....So my advise is that I dont think its the meds, I def think its coming from stress.
