Seroquel for bipolar ii

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for bipolar ii

seroquel

Avatar m tn My psychiatrist thinks I have Bipolar II, but I've never had a hypomanic experience outside of the two times I've tried SSRIs. I've struggled with depression for as long as I can remember, I'm 24. I tried prozac when I was 21 and had a hypomanic experience 2 months in. At that time I was drinking a TON, abusing adderall, and getting little sleep. Then 3 years later I tried celexa, and after 3 days I felt good, then after about 5 I felt too good.
Avatar f tn I find I am okay with these meds, although not sure if we do need to tweak them or not, I was diagnosed 18 months ago with Bipolar II, and although given the diagnosis and meds to go on (I had been trying for years to figure out what the problem was, and had been on many medications for depression), I was never really told anything about bipolar, or what to expect, what things may happen etc. So This forum is great!
5544493 tn?1369608788 While seroquel does interact with a lot of things (including wellbutrin), ibuprofen isn't one of them, according to the drugs.com interaction checker. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, not a mood stabilizer, although it's one of the least likely to send a bipolar person (hypo)manic. And everyone's different--seroquel is a marvelous drug for some, and absolutely horrible for others.
Avatar f tn Quetiapine (Seroquel) is an atypical antipsychotic that is also good for bipolar depression. It is approved for treatment of acute manic episodes, as monotherapy for bipolar depression, and as an add-on maintenance treatment for BP I with lithium or divalproex. Many people use it for maintenance alone, although that's technically an off-label use. The problems people have with it are weight gain and a small but statistically significant risk of metabolic problems, including diabetes.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 23 and was diagnosed bipolar when I was 18 or 19 I can't remember. Right now im taking welbutrin, risperdal, ativan, seroquel, and lamictal. The problem I have is a strange feeling in my head that moves around. It goes away when I place my hands on my head and i'm wondering if it's a symptom of bipolar.
Avatar n tn Thanks for this tip , maybe if i take part of seroquel during the day and part during the night can help me with my anxiety :)
574118 tn?1305135284 Zyprexa is actually a pretty good antidepressant, but its side effects suck enough that people are reluctant to go on it long term.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been on Seroquel 200 mg for approx one year. Since being on the med I have experienced extreme forgetfulness. My short term memory is especially affected and it's getting progressively worse. I don't think forgetfulness is listed as a side effect of Seroquel. I was wondering if anyone else on this med has experienced the same.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder in November 2011. I was put on Lamictal 100mg 2 times daily,,Seroquel 300mg at bedtime and Cymbalta 60mg daily. The last week and a half Ive been in a crappy mood,,wanting to sleep all the time and just feel like I have no energy. Everything sets me off and Im getting angry and bitter again. I was doing sooo well on these meds. I have gained weight from the seroquel and that weighs on me literally. Is this what the hypomania phase is?
Avatar f tn My Dad diagnosed schizophrenic 46 years ago has deteriorated over last 4 years and has been told that he never had schizophrenia that he has bipolar disorder. He has not has psychosis for 36 years always on different meds. HE is making my mothers life hell she is a saint and his full time carer, he is so full of ANGER and taking it out on her. Is that depression? or what is it. What medication would help with this. HE is on high dose epilim and lower dose of Seroquel together.
874521 tn?1424116797 Hi there, I am on seroquel and effexor, I am also on epilim for my bipolar, for me the combination works really well although my seroquel dose is 50 mg, i think there are two strengths of seroquel. But I find that the combination of seroquel, effexor 150 and epilim 800 after a lot of tweaking, crying, mania, thrashing about finally works. i have noticed though that i have stacked on the weight, but after some research have found that these meds can do that.
1655289 tn?1326042889 I'm curious if anyone is taking Topamax for bipolar? I've read it helps with weight loss too. I'm currently taking Zyprexa causing me to gain 45lbs, I want to ask my doctor if I can switch from Zyprexa to Topamax for my bipolar II. I'd love any feedback on either drug and how it affected you.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I saw my psychiatrist yesterday, my 3rd session with him, and he has now told me I have Bipolar I. It wasn't a shock, I was expecting it, and I am actually not too bummed about it because at least now I know what is wrong with me. He told me I meet all the signs & criteria for this & because I have had several severe manic episodes which have severely affected my life at times.
Avatar f tn I personally take Lamicatl Welbutrin Trazodone Seroquel These are my bipolar meds all though I do have physical health problems that I also take meds for. Do you have an anxiety disorder as well? I take the seroquel and trazodone for sleep and it works well. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn t cause it as well as new generation antipsychotics in study such as the glutamate antagonists, I myself am in study for the Phase II FDA study antipsychotic glycine, the results will be published in a psychiatric journal, until then for the official study google "Dr. Javitt, glycine"). and the movements and sensations you describe disapate at times it is almost certainly akathesia and there are a variety of medications that could be given to help it.
Avatar f tn Our son was under the care of psychiatrists for 14 years for bipolar disorder, and the only medication that completely alleviated his symptoms was methadone. He eventually received social security disability because even with the doctors' medications he could not hold down a job. The local methadone clinic was the only place he could get the medication from, but the price increases made it impossible for us to continue sending him there.
1044813 tn?1370494406 Seroquel (quetiapine) is an anti-psychotic medication that originally was approved for use on Schizophrenia but has shown to work for both Bipolar-Manic episode and Bipolar-Depressive episodes. It is quickly becoming a very common prescribed medication for those with Bipolar. With this medication now becoming a common and approved use I was recommending that it be added on it's own.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is one of the 'atypical antipsychotics' that came out about ten years ago. They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder.
Avatar n tn Abilify is less sedating than Seroquel as regards antipsychotics. The antipsychotic agent I am on is in Phase II FDA study (read through my posts) and has far less side effects than the current ones and is more effective but let me wait until they understand it better as its not a known quantity yet (and its been researched on schizophrenia, not ptsd). If the Lamictal is showing good results your psychiatrist might consider tapering down the Lithium gradually.
