seroquel

874521 tn?1424120397 Antipsychotics are used for more than just psychosis. They are used for bipolar as well. Seroquel has a strong mood stabilization effect. Lamictal is an effective mood stabilizer. I was on Seroquel years ago. The antipsychotic I am on now is in Phase II FDA study (for more information google "Dr. Javitt, glycine") and I have been documented as having made a full recovery from it. That class of antipsychotics (glutamate antagonists) are in many Phase II FDA studies.
1167245 tn?1353882100 If you end up being hosptialized for a severe manic episode then it is usually Bipolar 1. I have bipolar 1 and have been hospitalized for extreme manic episodes with psychosis. I can go years and years (4-5) without a manic episode unless I go off my meds. I have had periods of depression usually after my manic episodes that have left me feeling suicidal. Usually in bipolar 2 the mania comes but not as extreme. Some people cycle from depression to hypomania almost daily.
Avatar f tn I am 28 years old and was Diagnosed with Bipolar II about a year and a half ago. I was on Effexor XR for a few years, for what I thought, and was told by my prior Psych was Depression (apparently not), along with either Xannax or Ativan for Panic Disorder which I also have. I have a question about Bipolar Meds. Currently I am taking Welbutrin XL 150 mg a day, Lexapro 10 mg a day, Seroquel 50-100 mg a night when I need it, and also Klonopin 1/2 mg in the day and 1 mg at night.
Avatar f tn Even though he has not diagnosed you bipolar you are on bipolar medications (Lamictal and Seroquel). Does he know you quit taking the Lamictal? I wonder why he has you on those if you are not diagnosed BP? Also, why Beta Blockers? Is that supposed to help your anxiety? Have you contacted someone to get a second opinion yet? There are good psychiatrist and bad ones as well. Trust me, I had a really bad one and it almost cost me my life! Keep up posted!
Avatar n tn Thanks for this tip , maybe if i take part of seroquel during the day and part during the night can help me with my anxiety :)
Avatar f tn Namaste, I hope your appointment with hyour psychiatrist went well and you were able to come to a resolution to this Seroquel issue. I can offer much advice since I was only on Seroquel for about 3 months and the only side effect I had was 40 pounds in weight gain. That's why I discontinued it. When I did stop taking it, I did it "cold turkey" without any side effects.
Avatar f tn I find I am okay with these meds, although not sure if we do need to tweak them or not, I was diagnosed 18 months ago with Bipolar II, and although given the diagnosis and meds to go on (I had been trying for years to figure out what the problem was, and had been on many medications for depression), I was never really told anything about bipolar, or what to expect, what things may happen etc. So This forum is great!
14764159 tn?1436371936 Hi, Im 23, diagnosed bipolar II. Current meds Lamotrigine 200mg and Sertraline. Im just after honest Seroquel reviews - I have been prescribed 50mg at night and Im looking for side effects people have had or how theyve dealth with them. Any help hugely appreciated.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist thinks I have Bipolar II, but I've never had a hypomanic experience outside of the two times I've tried SSRIs. I've struggled with depression for as long as I can remember, I'm 24. I tried prozac when I was 21 and had a hypomanic experience 2 months in. At that time I was drinking a TON, abusing adderall, and getting little sleep. Then 3 years later I tried celexa, and after 3 days I felt good, then after about 5 I felt too good.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with medications for bipolar for twenty years now. Although everyone's bipolar is unique to them, I have bipolar I with psychotic features that only appear when I am medication free. I have been on a combo of lithium and geodon now for the good part of ten years, and a high dose of neurontin was added a while back to treat mania, anxiety and fibromyalgia.
4971738 tn?1390568984 The crazymeds website has a lot of information about different treatments (and I mean a LOT. Don't freak yourself out over it). If you're bipolar II, you should really try to get to a psychiatrist and keep going. Maybe even ask them for a prescription for a single dose of an anti-anxiety drug to get you in the door if you're too nervous (just make sure to get someone else to drive you to the appointment).
Avatar f tn My daughter has a bipolar disorder II with hypoomanic features, and I was also told she was mental ill, antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, signs and symptoms of schizophrenis, oppositional defiant disorder. She have been in and out of hospital and on a lot of different meds. Seroquel, risperadae, Lithem ,Zyprexz, hydroxyz pam, oxcarbazepine and now on 15 mg. of abilify. She never tell the true, and will steal food. she is not doing nothing in school.
Avatar f tn I have racked my brain trying to understand how Seroquel (which I am taking for anxiety, 50mg/night) can make one gain such exhorbitant amounts of weight. I have read dozens of "testimonial" from people taking this drug, and all blame "the drug" (i.e. Seroquel or other medications within the Seroquel family) for gaining weight. I am confused, for I do not believe that a drug can "make" someone do this.
Avatar m tn I have never been on as large a dose of Seroquel as you. For me, 400 mg (my current dose) has been plenty. I suffer from Bipolar Type II and this medication was a small miracle when it was first prescribed, but that was several years ago. It pulled me out of a major funk then and allowed me to sleep. Now I can't sleep without it and I think it is addictive for that reason; or at least it should be characterized as a drug that can cause dependence.
918275 tn?1254072352 I was diagnosed with ADHD in the 80's and finally went on medication in the 90's, but when I became more manic on the medications, I was diagnosed with bipolar II. I found that I have to literally badger my doctor when I am not "right." I feel bad doing it, but when he is able to help me and call something in for me....or schedule an appt, I always feel better. I have reached out for help to the team of docs I have and they answer. Don't worry at how you are perceived.
1655289 tn?1326046489 I'm currently taking Zyprexa causing me to gain 45lbs, I want to ask my doctor if I can switch from Zyprexa to Topamax for my bipolar II. I'd love any feedback on either drug and how it affected you.
Avatar f tn any advice? What has it done/not done for all of you. I'm bipolar II with more noticable depression than mania. Please help. My other option is to either go back to prozac or try wellbutrin, or just the lamictal.
980052 tn?1262970679 i have bipolar II and i dont just have ups and downs but i have ups and downs every damn day. My illnesss ruined my marriage, my relationships with friends and family, and in November it cost me my job!!! ( i have had a few psychotic episodeds the past few years, but none in the past 12 months Im presently taking depakote(500 ERmg daily) mixed with lamictal(75mg daily) But until the depakote wastarted 9 months ago, i was a tall athletic dude but i nhave put on 33 lbs in the last 9 months...
Avatar f tn Quetiapine (Seroquel) is an atypical antipsychotic that is also good for bipolar depression. It is approved for treatment of acute manic episodes, as monotherapy for bipolar depression, and as an add-on maintenance treatment for BP I with lithium or divalproex. Many people use it for maintenance alone, although that's technically an off-label use. The problems people have with it are weight gain and a small but statistically significant risk of metabolic problems, including diabetes.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I saw my psychiatrist yesterday, my 3rd session with him, and he has now told me I have Bipolar I. It wasn't a shock, I was expecting it, and I am actually not too bummed about it because at least now I know what is wrong with me. He told me I meet all the signs & criteria for this & because I have had several severe manic episodes which have severely affected my life at times.
Avatar f tn ( like me ) All your med changes should Always come from your Doc. Ask for samples. My doc keep me in seroquel for over 6 months.
Avatar n tn I too was diagnosed with bipolar, II, to be exact. It seems to me that the eating problem is more of a symptom rather than the disease itself. I am going through a very painful divorce and my eating disorder is back again after 4 years. I was bulimic before and I had short periods of extreme weight loss as well. Now it's back to square one, feels like all that effort is gone. I don't purge anymore, I just binge and gain weight and I feel like I will become morbidly obese, I am terrified.
Avatar f tn at age 39 yrs I went into full blown menopause and at the same time I was diagnosed bipolar II. Now I knew I was going to gain some weight from the menopause and later I found out that I was gaining weight from the bipolar medication, Lithium which I have been on since 1997, along with another medication for depression, this changes alot. I was 130lbs when all this started. I am 54 yrs old now and I weight 200lbs, am on Lithium 900mg and Seroquel 300 mg and Paxil.
874521 tn?1424120397 Hi there, I am on seroquel and effexor, I am also on epilim for my bipolar, for me the combination works really well although my seroquel dose is 50 mg, i think there are two strengths of seroquel. But I find that the combination of seroquel, effexor 150 and epilim 800 after a lot of tweaking, crying, mania, thrashing about finally works. i have noticed though that i have stacked on the weight, but after some research have found that these meds can do that.
337492 tn?1212462436 I am looking for some support here. We are excited to adopt and are planning to get on the waiting list for a baby as soon as we are married, since it is 3-7 years long. I guess what I am looking for is false hope? Is there any medications a woman can take during pregnancy. I have done research and have not had any luck. My psychiatrist said I can go off meds long enough to concieve, but again, I would be manic, so that would not work.
Avatar f tn The loss of conversation skills is the worst for me, I get upset and say things sometimes that don't make sense then dwell on it for the rest of the day. The other day I told my mom and uncle that I said something horrible to someone, the problem...that was a lie, I hadn't said the horrible thing at all, I was telling them about something that had happened and it just came out of my mouth before I knew it. I'm not a liar, I don't lie like that.
