I personally take Lamicatl Welbutrin Trazodone Seroquel These are my bipolar meds all though I do have physical health problems that I also take meds for. Do you have an anxiety disorder as well? I take the seroquel and trazodone for sleep and it works well. I hope this helps.

Seroquel is one of the 'atypical antipsychotics' that came out about ten years ago. They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder.

My daughter has been taking medication for bipolar disorder for about a year ( she was taking depakote 500 mg). She was starting have nightmare regarding death, and her medication was changed to seroquel. About 3 to 4 weeks after starting seroquel she had a seizure ( 1 at home and 2 in the hospital). She was taken off the seroquel and but on Lamitcal and has had 5 more seizures. Is her bipolar disorder causing the seizures?

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been on Seroquel 200 mg for approx one year. Since being on the med I have experienced extreme forgetfulness. My short term memory is especially affected and it's getting progressively worse. I don't think forgetfulness is listed as a side effect of Seroquel. Seroquel (quetiapine) is an anti-psychotic medication that originally was approved for use on Schizophrenia but has shown to work for both Bipolar-Manic episode and Bipolar-Depressive episodes. My Dad diagnosed schizophrenic 46 years ago has deteriorated over last 4 years and has been told that he never had schizophrenia that he has bipolar disorder. I hope that your doctor asked you many more questions to determine if you had bipolar disorder than just about racing thoughts. Bipolar disorder cannot and should not be diagnosed only on the basis of that. The three FDA-approved uses for Seroquel are for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and together with antidepressants in Major Depressive Disorder. I do know it is sometimes prescribed for people with the above disorders who have trouble sleeping, as it knocks you out pretty effectively.

Hi Tammy, seroquel (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic and is often prescribed for bipolar disorder to address psychotic symptoms and for it's mood stabilising properties mainly antimanic, although it also has some anti-depressant effects. It is also prescribed for other things such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective, GAD or severe insomnia (because of the sedation, and in smaller doses). It can be sedating at first, but usually this lessens as you get use to it.

Our son was under the care of psychiatrists for 14 years for bipolar disorder, and the only medication that completely alleviated his symptoms was methadone. He eventually received social security disability because even with the doctors' medications he could not hold down a job. Bipolar 1 and 2, both have this symtom, and I have experienced it for years, losing the trust and friendship of family and aquantainces. I would suggest that you contact your GP and get the appropriate meds for this, as with mine, it got worse as the years went on to the point where I was physically violent.

My husband has bipolar disorder and seroquel and zoloft were awful for him (and me!!) If a medication is not working, and your psychiatrist is not listening, find a new doctor. My husbands first doctor was not listening to him and treated him like dirt so we got a new one and are very happy with him. Some antipsychotic and ssri medications are "safe" to take during pregnancy (meaning benefits outweigh the risks), but from what I have read seroquel may not be one of them.

I Have bipolar disorder with anxiety . I m an artist so I don't want to feel emotionally numb . So my doctor suggested Lamictal . I m on week 3 my dose is 50 mg for the day . I have a friend who posted a question (jigreg) about what medications you take for Bipolar Disorder. I know this question is posted a lot but he isn't getting any awswers. Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.

The only way to be diagnosed is to see a psychiatrist and be assessed. There are many drugs used to treat bipolar disorder. Some are Seroquel, Abilify, Lithium, and Risperdal, though there are many more. Depression is just being down and sometimes having a normal time between periods of depression. It sounds like you are Bipolar, we do have a group here specifically for that, you might get better answers there to be honest. You are on two mood stabilizers, which generally work better the AD's, you may want to go over your meds with your Pdoc. What dose of Lamactil are you on? It's worked wonders for me. Weight gain in my opinion can happen with any drug, depression can cause it too, with emotional eating and food addictions.

I have never heard of anyone either having hallucinations CAUSED by seroquel. It is most likely as result of your illness. You never say WHY you're taking the Seroquel & Lamictal. Usually those 2 are prescribed for bipolar disorder which CAN cause hallucinations. I would go to the dr. If you are having side effects from the meds such as body contortions, this could be a sign of Tardive Dyskinesia, which can be held at bay by meds like Cogentin or Artane.

Can anyone share if they also been diagnosed with a Bipolar Depression or with a Mood Disorder ? I believe that its more over BiPolar/Mood Disorder then anything else.
