Common Questions and Answers about Quit smoking lung cancer

smoking

Avatar n tn My question is this though. I recently quit smoking marijuana. I quit smoking cigarettes about 3 years ago and have not touched them since however, I've been smoking marijuana for the most part on a daily basis since I was about 17/18 or so. My concern is, especially after reading up on it, that I may have done irreversable damage to my lungs and have permanently doomed myself in terms of contracting COPD and lung cancer.
Avatar f tn The pulmonologyst said she saw at least 4 more but they are so small the were not mentioned by the radiologyst. I quit smoking (24 yr- 15 cigarette a day) in June after I found out. The withrawal is horible, the anxiety is above sky, back pain , shortness of breath you name it. I am spending hours on internet trying to figure out if I have lung cancer or not, I am due for another Ct scan in January, but till then it will help to have an opinion.

Avatar f tn His grandpa is dying from lung cancer, has had 1/2 of one lung removed, 2 ribs and discontinued chemo. My son saw this first hand and when he got home he begged me constantly to quit smoking. One day, with tears in his eyes and cuss words flying he told me that he wanted me to live to see his kids someday. This is my motivation. I carry my sons pic around with me during the day. Smoking is a very strong addiction yet it can be stopped.

Avatar n tn d never even heard of it and the difference between EMPHYSEMA and LUNG CANCER is that you are heading towards emphysema every cigarette that you smoke. Lung cancer is a magical (in the worst sense) change that just one day "happens" in some people, like a switch. Emphysema works differently like this: People are born with 100% lung capacity and over their life times this lung capacity is reduced by air pollution, car exhausts, bonfires, etc.
Avatar m tn Breathlessness on exertion could be due to the decreased lung function. To improve lung function practice breathing exercises and quit smoking. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. If the symptoms are getting worse or if you develop additional symptoms please consult your primary care physician. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn 00 for advair 250/50. This lasts 30 days. If you are diagnosed with emphasema, get a quit smoking plan going. I quit cold turkey the day I was diagnosed and have not smoked since, but did get paxil to help with the anxiety and anger.
Avatar n tn Some folks think a pack a day makes them a heavy smoker, whereas others think it has to be more than two packs a day, or three packs a day before its serious - Most of the other people under 40 who Ive come across who had either COPD or emphysema smoked at least two packs a day or more, and many of them like me are unable to quit smoking, so the fact that you have quit is tremendous. Hope your treatment is going well!
Avatar n tn As for smoking and arrhythmia, I smoked a pack plus a day for 25 years and I have Atrial Fibrillation. Is it related? I doubt it, but I quit smoking because I wanted to live and enjoy life, not end it early whizzing and short of breath, or from a heart attack. Now we learn there is a risk from second-hand smoke, ask you girl friend to stop smoking to help reduce risk of early death for both of you.
1330864 tn?1275270365 Medication is much safer than the cigarettes!! I have a 40 year old nephew dying from lung cancer caused by smoking up to two packs a day, and will be leaving 4 children without a father. Only 3% of people age 40 and under develop lung cancer this young, and he thought it would never happen to him. People who smoke find it relaxes them because they have an addiction and always need to have the nicotine which eases the anxiety of the body needing the nicotine.
Avatar m tn t understand how a person can accept that smoking can cause lung cancer but COPD has nothing to do with smoking when in fact, it is the main cause of COPD.
