My son saw this first hand and when he got home he begged me constantly to quit smoking. One day, with tears in his eyes and cuss words flying he told me that he wanted me to live to see his kids someday. This is my motivation. I carry my sons pic around with me during the day. Avatar n tn Just ask around, still a majority of young people do not know the first thing about COPD, everybody thinks you just get short of breath and unfit due to smoking, and you might get lung cancer, nobody knows about COPD, emphysema... If I knew how bad COPD is when I was young, if it was demonstrated to me I would never have smoked....this is something that has to be taught seriously at schools since they will never be able to ban cigarettes like they ban Marijuana....

Avatar m tn But we all know that smoking has its negative effects in the body and the lungs is the part that usually gets affected more when we smoke. Hopefully it doesn't harm yours since you said you're just smoking occasionally. But if you really want to get better, you will never go back to that bad habit of smoking again. You can consider e-cig as a better and healthier alternative to smoking instead.

Avatar f tn When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer. Your mother may or may not have this gene variant but that doesn’t mean that you have it. And, if you do have it, the increased risk, in no way, means that you will get lung cancer, small cell or other, especially now that you have quit smoking. The role of lung cancer screening tests is still not clear.
Avatar m tn not saying it is impossible to get lung cancer after such a short period of smoking, it just sounds more likely you are irritating a pre existing conditions, such as asthma or chronic bronchitis. definitely stop smoking and that would include pot, but there are way more dangerous chemicals in tobacco.
675718 tn?1530033033 It may seem silly but when I fill out any paperwork for the doctor (or visiting my current doctor) I always let them know about the cancers in my family. Since skin cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, colon cancer and many other cancers run in my family, I let my doctor know about it, even if it was a "good" cancer. I was diagnosed with skin cancer in the past year and have had other tests to check for cancer.
Avatar m tn i am a little scared could it be lung cancer?no cough or nething of that sort.i am just worried about lung cancer etc.could anyone please shed some light on the symptoms and my condition?
Avatar m tn Long term effects of smoking 1 year in your very early 20's. Serious? No Worries. Glad you stopped. Take care of yourself and you should be fine. Lung Cancer is a crap shoot anyway. Chris Reeves' wife died of it and never smoked. Some folks smoke there whole life and no problem. Your biggest problem with smoking that goes unspoken of usually is COPD, and its a serious problem. Good Job for quitting. You will be better off for it.
