not saying it is impossible to get lung cancer after such a short period of smoking, it just sounds more likely you are irritating a pre existing conditions, such as asthma or chronic bronchitis. definitely stop smoking and that would include pot, but there are way more dangerous chemicals in tobacco.
Most Parents will try hard to quit when approached by their children. My cancer was not caused by smoking, but I did smoke. Lung Cancer is the one of the highest causes of death. Maybe show him some websites about Lung Cancer. Tell him you love him, and you want to have him to be around when you are his age. My prayers go out to you.

Breathlessness on exertion could be due to the decreased lung function. To improve lung function practice breathing exercises and quit smoking. Lung function tests could further help in evaluation. If the symptoms are getting worse or if you develop additional symptoms please consult your primary care physician.

ve done is irreversible at my age of 23 and my history of smoking. I do not want to develop COPD, emphysema, lung cancer, etc. and am planning on getting engaged soon. anything is possible and lung cancer is possible on Your age as well. It is sometimes genetic to get lung cancer at such a young age...and why did You start smoking at the age of 16? if You have such worrying symptoms why You did not visit your doctor yet? There hundreds other things to cause your cough it is not just cancer issue, it could be pneumonia, COPD, bronchitis, etc... But all the symptoms You said you have mimic lung cancer to me.
do as your dr says, but it will never go away, it will get worse if you keep smoking. why would you keep smoking after having cancer that would scared me so bad i would never picked up another one. i wish you lots of luck with this its not easy to stop smoking but you need to if you want to see your grandkids. let us know how its going.

When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer. Your mother may or may not have this gene variant but that doesn’t mean that you have it. And, if you do have it, the increased risk, in no way, means that you will get lung cancer, small cell or other, especially now that you have quit smoking.
