Avatar n tn I quit smoking through hypnosis. Two sessions and that was it! Cannot even stand to see them now. It was a complete re wiring of my mind just like magic. Try it you have nothing to lose.
873416 tn?1250335346 Well I was pushing 30 and I wanted to quit smoking before I started trying to conceive so I heard of a hypnosis center that offered a free consultation. I decided that me and my husband would go and see what they had to say. The program was a seven week program with alternating weeks of hypnosis therapy. I would then have a copy of the session to listen to twice a day - right before I got out of bed in the morning and right before I went to sleep at night.
Avatar f tn ( cut back a lot... This is my 4th baby. I quit for number one! but not for two or three... it wasnt easy to do that to my babies... But I did, feel more hope this time, because I did quit for 7 days a month before I got pregnant. Meaning I was already on a hell bent mission to quit smoking, before being pregnant... Any advice would be nice...
Avatar f tn Everybody I know that quit cold turkey ended going back to smoking. Cigarette smoking is the same as drug addiction. First you have to WANT to quit with all your heart. The electrinic cigarettes will still give you the nicotine your body craves, but without the smoke and other toxic chemicals. You can get the filters at any nicotine strength so you can cut down a little at a time. I started at 27mgs and each month I cut down to a lesser amount.
Avatar f tn Hypnosis, specifically a no-smoking program that used hypnosis, worked for my sister-in-law. It was done by a psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn Smoking cigarettes, am I right. Many county's offer free patches to reduce craving. When I quit, things like Hypnosis were popular. Some try acupuncture. I just smoked the last one, Thanked God I didn't have to suffer cancer & made a private promise I'd never smoke again. It was hard for about a year. Then it got easier. It's been over 25 years since I smoked. I was only interested in quitting once. So that's it.
8274643 tn?1406141596 hypnosis center here, maybe a national chain, and it has a good reputation with helping people quit smoking. If there is not such a thing near you, some doctors are also trained in hypnosis. It's worth looking into because it's drug-free.
Avatar n tn I have tried nicorette, patches, hypnosis, chantix, wellbutrin, yoga, acupuncture, cessation classes, therapy and cold turkey to quit smoking. I have smoked for 40 years. When I try to quit I get hysterical, I cry for days and I can't function and I am just overwhelmed with anxiety. I have a very high stress job, I care for an elderly parent in my home, and I am a recovering alcoholic, 20 yrs, so addiction is not new to me.
Avatar f tn Two things that can help are a quit-smoking program based on hypnosis (some therapists can do this, or there are stand-alone programs) and acupuncture. Neither is damaging during pregnancy, and if you could get the benefit and actually quit, how great for you and your baby.
Avatar f tn feel sick today so I haven't read this entire thread...has he tried hypnosis, along with some other things like the patch or gum, etc etc...all at the same time? sometimes addictions are so strong that you need to throw everything at them...but hypnosis is very good for addictions, I heard Robin Williams say he had tried everything to quit smoking, and hypnosis is the one that did it for him...
Avatar n tn t let anyone give you that excuse that it is so stressful to quit smoking that you may as well keep smoking. Smoking is poison for the baby, they'd rather have the stress. But if you get the patch it should not be that stressful. My brother quit in one day because -- guess what happened from his smoking, he had a heart attack and found out he needed a quadruple bypass. (Wakes you up, right?) He did it easily by using a patch, said he never missed the cigs.
Avatar f tn m definitely a stress smoker so lowering my stress has helped me quit smoking without using any of the regular quitting methods. Also surround yourself with people who don't smoke, and note the times where you usually smoke -morning with coffee, 10 minute break, etc- and find something to replace it. (This can help with break the habit, which is definitely that hardest part.
Avatar n tn Hypnosis works, and it is one of the most common reasons people get hypnotized.
397539 tn?1233258097 t have these terrible withdrawal symptoms, and you can re-learn how to live your life without smoking. I quit in 1992 after 23 years of smoking a pack a day. I had tried everything from cold-turkey to hypnosis, but only the patch helped me. Remember, you CANNOT smoke while on the patches, because it will cause a nicotine overload and you could have a heart attack. If you were a light smoker (but it doesn't sound like it) you could start with the 14mg/day patches. Good luck, Autum!
458937 tn?1271194781 We have someone on the forum who used hypnosis and quit....some quit with the gum, some with the patch and some quit cold turkey (suppose to be the best way), whatever way we chose, we all had one thing in common and that was we wanted to quit.....we were tired of smoking and tired of feeling the effects of smoking. In NYC there is an onslaught of commercials....doctors, smokers minus limbs, family members talking about their dead smokers....
Avatar f tn patches, gum, Chantix, electronic cigs, hypnosis, etc. But the only thing that makes any difference is person's attitude and unwavering commitment to quitting. The recent studies have shown that the most successful quitters are those that quit cold turkey. Yes, cold turkey! Without all the expensive remedies. Bottom line is, as I said before, a person can use any help they want, but without their decision to quit, none of the tricks will work. You can do nothing to persuade your boyfriend.
Avatar f tn I am six weeks and I am having the hardest time trying to quit smoking. Any tips?
Avatar f tn Honey, quit any way you can, cold turkey or otherwise. My sil used hypnosis and it worked (one of those medical programs). We sometimes get someone writing in claiming their doctor tells them not to quit cold turkey because it would stress them too much. However, I don't know any non-smoking doctor who would ever say that. It sounds like either a total self-justifying fib from someone who doesn't want to quit smoking, or a statement from a doctor who smokes.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried hypnosis for weight loss? So many diet drugs interact with Synthroid so I though maybe it was worth a shot. Just curious! (Ive gained 50 lbs since TT and quitting smoking a year ago) Yikes!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Have you ever seen one of those clinics that uses hypnosis for smoking cessation? I hear they work really well. You sound like you're doing so well already that maybe something like that would put you over the top and you would not only stop but never start again.
Avatar m tn I think the only way to really quit is to put them down, bite the bullet so to speak and replace the behaviors associated with smoking that has become second nature to us and imo is the hardest part of quitting. You simply quit, walk away and get something to bite on, like in the old movies! ha ha I am 102 days off smoking today. And yes, I still want one occasionally and probably always will, but the trick is to not take that first puff, period. Problem solved.
199177 tn?1490498534 Most holistic approaches are designed to initially accompany conventional, professional treatment programs. Beyond the initial stages of recovery, and for maintaining an ongoing drug-free lifestyle, holistic and alternative approaches have shown to be quite helpful to many individuals. It is widely recommended that individuals consult with a physician before beginning alternative and holistic treatment for substance abuse recovery.
8548587 tn?1426132056 You are definitely not a loser! You are someone that helped inspire me enough in those early days to make it this far and that alone qualifies you as an amazing winner in my book. I lied to my kids and grandkids and told them that I quit smoking at the same time I quit the pain meds-so now I am a "closet" smoker, lol. But I either have to quit or fess up, oh boy.
Avatar f tn You increase the risk of SIDs with smoking to. I know how hard it is to quit, take it seriously and kick those to the curb. Go for walk or do something each time you feel the urge to smoke and think of how your little guy will pay for it if you don't.
685562 tn?1447155231 Until I quit smoking January 08, I smoked about 3-1/2 packs a day. I used the patches to quit. I've read that the mentally ill do tend to be more likely to smoke.
Avatar m tn All because I kept going outside of the house I had built for me. No smoking in the house! It was too cold to go outside and smoke so I quit. I quit drinking because it is a headache trigger. Even one pint. I still goto the same bars, get a fat glass of free coca cola and have as much fun as when I drank. Maybe more? Since I can remember the whole night now.lol. Fight the good fight and show you're a surviver! Let us know if you need to talk. Seems there is always someone here.
Avatar f tn I don't want to sound mean, but if hurting your baby isn't enough to make you stop using, I don't know what is. I was born from a mother who smoked through the entire pregnancy and was consequently born with under developed lungs (and a dependency to nicotine). With the underdeveloped lungs, I also had asthma that I fought with through my early teens. Now, I am in my 40's and get all kinds of respiratory distress. The deal is, you can quit but it takes an effort.
209987 tn?1451935465 Okay...so I've tried so many things in the past to relieve anxiety, and none have helped much...gave up coffee, but then started back up again...which was stupid because it really WAS helping. As most of you know, I have a doctor induced phobia of taking pills...even the thought of taking herbal supplements scares the daylights out of me because of all the BAD experiences I've had in the past with medications. Even taking vitamins scares me...silly I know, but...true. Anyway...
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
