Common Questions and Answers about Quit smoking one year

smoking

Avatar m tn I recently made it to one year smoking free thanks to chantix. But during that time and even moreso in recent weeks/months I seem to be getting aggressive, argumentative and short tempered. I wonder if this could be because the chantix is no longer stimulating my brains receptors to release dopamine? Or could this be because the addiction is returning and undermining my determination. Either way, I've made an appt.
1262435 tn?1270311859 I have seen many doctors, and they all advice to syop smoking but NO ONE is realy convincing in their advice, no real and professional explanation to ordinary people. We see warnings on cigarette packs with no scientific and convincing explanations. I urge any one with such answers to post them here to make it more convincing to reluctant smokers.
873416 tn?1250335346 I just wanted to celebrate that today is my one year anniversary of quitting smoking. I MADE IT! I started smoking at the age of 10, and smoked for 19 years. At the age of 29 I smoked about a pack of day during the week and more on the weekends. My husband does not smoke, never has. I always said that I would quit when I Decided to have a baby.
Avatar f tn Coming from a former smoker don't ever 'reward' yourself with cigarettes. Ie: I haven't smoked all day, therefore I should be able to smoke 2 cigarettes later. I quit cold turkey. It was extremely hard and it took almost a year before I didn't think of smoking daily. I used this website and spent time reading it over. It helped me so much. I carried a pack of cigarettes with me for the first 3 months.
Avatar f tn I started smoking when I was about 10, quit when I was 50. Got a carton for my 13th birthday. One of the 50 times I quit smoking I was sitting there wearing a patch on each arm, chewing a piece of Nicorette, puffing on a Marlboro all at the same time. It's rough!! It finally took. What bothered me the most at first was people smoking, but I made an oath that I would never be a reformed smoker that looks down their nose at smokers. One of the times I failed we went to the Casino.
Avatar m tn I celebrated my one month quit with a stress test. it was nice to hear the doctor telling me that everything about my test (don't know what the pictures will tell) was normal. My blood pressure was normal...my pulse normal. I joined a gym on monday....i'm gonna try to lose some weight and give my heart and lungs a chance to get healthy. Honestly...it seems like this past month was really whacky. If i had a crystal ball...i never would have chosen this month to quit.
907968 tn?1292622204 Hey there and congrats on your year and four months! I know many people have smoking dreams, but I've never had even one. I've quit several times over the last 3yrs and the first time I quit it was a good amount of time (1yr) and I never dreamt of smoking. I am 109 days today with my fourth and God willing, last quit and still no dreams. I think I should consider myself lucky :) I know quite a few who Have dreamt of smoking so I'm sure they'll chime in.
Avatar m tn Hi Nirban I smoked when I was younger too. Here in the USA, we have a patch. That helps. Dr can prescribe zyban & that's supposed to help too. When I quit, I did not use that stuff though. This is what I did. I bought some straws. Then I cut them to the length of a cigarette. I took them with me, so when I felt like smoking I'd hold a straw like a cigarette. I'd even puff or draw a breath on the straw. Helped to relax me. I'd have something to do with my hand too.
Avatar f tn 10 a day is kind of allot, either way it's good you cut down if you were smoking more!! Ugh i quit during my 5th month I'm not proud if how long it took me to quit, I'm pretty sure only way to do it us to quit cold turkey...
Avatar f tn I've NEVER been a smoker BUT my Dad was and DIDN'T quit until my Son, Chris, was one year old. Then he quit because he was the ONLY person in our Family that smoked. He DIDN'T want Chris to grow up seeing him smoke, so he quit COLD TURKEY after 2 packs a day for FORTY YEARS!! NEVER touched another cigarette the REST of his life. That was back in 1968 and her lived until 1994.
Avatar m tn Well i haven't been smoking for long maybe a year on and off but for the past couple months almost a pack a day.. im 22 and gotta quit before i can't. some questions for anyone .. what are good ways to get past the urges to have a smoke? gum help? dont want nicorrette or any of that.. any suggestions? quitting tomorrow at work..
Avatar m tn Well amen to you for being such a great friend. It's sooo hard to quit smoking much less trying to do it without the support of friends and family. I've been there and failed many times due to no support. So, about the patches. None of them are "worthless". It just matters how badly you wanna quit and how much support you have around you. Quitting will be difficult no matter what your friend uses. These are only aids to (help) with withdraw.
4182046 tn?1355820039 s great if smoking made you sick when you got pregnant so you quit, im just not that lucky. How am I gonna stop?!
Avatar f tn A little over a year ago I was searching these sites for help with addiction to Fiorcet. Last April i was in critical care for 6 days with renal Failure. The doctors told me if I had been a 65 year old woman With a heart condition I wouldn't have made it. I was 51, not a whole younger. Having 2 boys ages 11 & 13, I made a promise to change my entire lifestyle.

747629 tn?1257931518 We got married this year. He is now 32. Ever since I met him I m trying to quit his smoking habit. Perhaps he tried many times and promised me to quit before our marriage. But he couldn't. He usually smokes 20-25 cigarettes a day and eats lots of sweet stuffs. He is smoking since he was in class 11 so we can since the age of 16-17. Even though he tries to quit, he is compelled to lie to me and make various excuses. I m very much worried about his habit. Please help.........

Avatar f tn I smoked throughout my first pregnancy, granted I was making a pack last a week or two which was WAY less than when I wasn't and thankfully my son was perfectly healthy and still is. I just don't want to push my luck, I did quit while I was in the hospital with my first, but as soon as I got home, I made the mistake of lighting one up thinking, "Oh, I can still quit. It's just one." Yeah, I was dumb. Lol. But I really do want to be healthier this time.
Avatar f tn I quit smoking the day after i found out too. I was a smoker for 5 years until september when i found out i having a baby. To me its all in the mind, and you have to be strong and know that you dont need it , its bad for you and your baby. My husband helped me get thru it , my baby my family is too important to me than a cigarette. Just remind yourself that your strong , you dont need it, its all in the mind. Whats in the heart is what matters.
Avatar n tn I smoked for 2 years. I know not a long time but this is how I quit. Ok I started just smoking half then I'd go down to a half of a half. I also chewed gum everytime id get an urge. And I wouldn't smoke that first one in the mornings. Id wait as long as I could then smoke. You could try eating sunflower seeds too. Hope that helps. Good luck! Princess.
Avatar f tn I quit when I found out at 5 weeks, I still sometimes want one. It was a lot easier then I thought it would be, sometimes I think about smoking just one but then I feel guilty for even thinking about it, so I don't.
Avatar n tn It is unusual for a 20 year old to have clinically significant emphysema. When seen at this age, it is almost always a result of the disease, alpha-1 antitrypsin disease. Your son’s doctors should check his blood for this problem. Emphysema severity ranges from mild to very severe and the CT scan can give an estimate of this. What; you need to know is what is the severity and this can be determined best, not by the CT scan, but by pulmonary function tests (PFTs).
Avatar f tn Congrats on quitting!
Avatar f tn How long have you been clean? try not to do too much at once or you could be setting yourself up for a fall. we are only human so take it slow ok? I found the patch really helped me. I quit during both my pregnancies using the patch. I wish I hadn't started again after giving birth but I feel good knowing my babies grew inside me without nicotine and all the other **** going into their systems.
Avatar f tn We have been wanting another baby, but wow it happened. Our oldest will be 2 in Feb. My question is, just this year I started smoking so my last pregnancy I didn't have to worry about it. I want the best for my little seed growing in me, but everytime I tell myself this is the last one all j can think about is another cigarette. I don't want meds bit cold turkey isn't working either.
