I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?

Discontinuing any anti depressant is not to be taken lightly, and should never be undetaken without medical guidance. Effexor is NO exception.
The symptoms you experienced when you stopped taking Effexor are caused by it's unique mechanism of action. If you and your Doctor decide that a different anti depressant would be better for you, a wean off scedule should be instated, that allows for gradual withdrawal of the Effexor as well as gradual introduction of Prozac.
Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
I started feeling really crazy on prozac too. Turns out I just needed a little lower dose. Also try to make a list of things u used to love before you felt sad. This might help u feel better about the potential of being happy. Finally, when I get like this I get up and do 100 jumping jacks. I know it sounds nuts but u start to focus on your legs burning and not the depression. If 100 doesn't make u tired set a goal that will. Also tell anyone all your thoughts.write it here.
s biochemistry is different and for most people (sorry mammo), the drug will work again after a period of being off of it or when it is added as an adjunct to another medication. I was on Prozac for years, built up a tolerance, switched to Celexa for a couple of years and now am back on the Prozac and it's working fine. To boost it's effectiveness, my doc added Wellbutrin for a while. There are many combos that work better for people than just one single anti-depressant.
Oh, and HOW exactly is she acting "weird"? Can you briefly describe her symptoms?

Meds of the same class are of course similar, but they do have different mechanisms of action. Also, for each person, one med may work great and another may not work at all. Same with any side effects or intolerances...some people tolerate one med better than another...much of figuring that all out is trial and error. These are all things to discuss with your doc if you are on one, or considering starting a med like this.

That's kind of funny shadowknight, because today my P-doc and I decided to switch me over to Remeron (Mirtazapine) because my current AD drug Nortriptilyne is pooping out on me.
Looks like we will both be experiencing this Remeron together for the first time.
Here is what I know thus far about Remeron (Mitazapine)
It can (and usually does) make most people drowsy for the first 4 to 5 hours after taken. This is why it's important to take it at bed time only.

Bob_D makes a very good point. It is very unusual for a Doctor to prescribe a triple combo right off the bat like that. Prozac, Wellbutrin XL and Effexor can be taken as a triple combo.....BUT, If your boyfriend is new to taking antidepressant medication, then I can absolutly see why he is having such bizzar side effects.
