i started tapering him off and some most of these have calmed down at a quarter of the dose, strattera is a non stimulant and works like an antidepresant wellbutrin but is for kids too..frontline has a series on the medicated child on www . pbs. org, you should really check this out, it is scary!!! deals with kids being on physc meds...

Is anyone on this drug?for depression,etc,started back on me tablets again prozac,but i get thoughts that scare me,mood swings etc,havent been on it again all that long,should i give the tablets more time?mayb it isnt the tablets and just me thinking it is.

Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.

I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.

Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).

5 months I took klonopin sparingly and Prozac. I stayed on Prozac for my entire second pregnancy. My oldest son is fine. My younger son has ADHD but so do I as well as my husband so I don't think it came from the Prozac. Do a bit of research as far as studies go. When I had my kids, there were no studies. There wasn't even the Internet I don't think. I guess what I'm saying is you can have your sanity as well as children.

I had to stop taking Prozac because of anxiety after taking it with no problems for years. So, if it works for you now, keep an eye on how it's working later.

Thanks for your comments. Will give the Prozac a little while longer. What do you think of my doctors advice to switch from one drug to the other without weaning off the first one?

The doc said to basically make a clean switch to prozac, for example Tuesday take last dose of effexor and Wednesday take Prozac. I have read and read and read everything I could find about tapering and withdrawal. I have NOT read one thing about anyone just quitting effexor and being okay. It is because of the short half life of the drug, meaning it is out of your system the next day. Prozac takes 5 weeks to get out of your system which is why there are no withdrawals.

I was on prozac for 2 years for panic disorder. It worked very well, but I also took xanax as needed for breakthrough anxiety. However, for the first two weeks or so, the prozac made my anxiety much worse. I toughed it out, and it did its thing.

I could take a Beta Blocker to help control the symptoms or Prozac for longer term relief. When I went to see a doctor he prescribed me 10mg of Prozac. I have only been on the medicine for 4 days but I feel like my anxiety is worse than ever. He has been on Concerta for about one month and now he is on prozac.he takes two concertas 27 mg along with a prozac pill every day.I have noticed very little change in him.I did hear that it takes 4 weeks for both medications to take effect.tomorrow will be the 4th day of him taking prozac.just wanted some advice on what route should I go with this.it has been very tough.thank you so much.

Prozac tends to be better for depression than for anxiety, but then, so is Cymbalta, since both are also stimulating (Cymbalta much more so). On the other hand, if Prozac works, it's probably the least troublesome of all these meds. Cymbalta is liver toxic for many and one of the hardest to get off of, while Prozac is one of the easiest to come off of since it stays in the body for a lot longer time and therefore the withdrawal is, for most people, slower and easier.

I have a 13 yo son diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, mild depression, and OCD. He was put on prozac 1 1/2 years ago, starting at 10 mg. It helped a little, so eventually it was increased to 20 mg. In January, it was increased to 30 mg, but it seemed like the anxiety fears were more on the upswing, and the OCD wasn't as much under control. He also had a lot of health issues going on that same year, and we believe the prozac was tangled up and at least increasing his stomach pain.

I take Prozac for OCD. I have had OCD for many years but just started taking Prozac in October. I have gradually noticed a difference and usually for the better but still have times when I seem like I'm slipping back again. I have also noticed that I have times elevated mood,which is great....lol....but it's almost too elevated....lol. Anyway hope that you find the medication thats right for you. I think the Prozac is more effectice at 50 or 60 mg. Seroquel is for seeing gousts demond halusinations people on drugs, or hearing things. it will long term make your brain smarter and be able to focus better, work better and it cures anxiety. Prozac is better I feel. I hate the way seroquil makes your head hurt when you take 20mg or more. uncomfortable feeling. take 75/100 mg seroquil and 60 mg Prozac. =NO ANXIETY NO WORRIES.

Are you saying that you have to take 160Mgs a day of Prozac to get a response from it? I think starr is right, 80 is the max effective dose for prozac. That's why it kind of unusual that 160 works better for you. Either way I would talk to your doc. 160mgs a day may be beyond the safe level. If 80 a day isn't working then I think you would be better to either switch AD meds or add another medication to the Prozac to produce a better response.

Hi i am on my 1st month of prozac but my anxiety it aboutt he same and thats with taking an ativan everyday. Has anyone tired tofranil or TCA's for anxiety??? I was on tofranil before for almost 2yrs but it was for postpartum depressi with anxiety racing thoughts insomnia ect.... It worked real well once my body adjusted for 8 weeks i think.

They drs. don't think that he has ADHD or any other disorder. He just has a fear of not knowing what to do and instead of asking for help like most kids he will sit there and cry. It's like the pressure is just to much for him. I have the teachers help with trying certain things in class. I also give him flax seed in as much food as possible for the OMEGA'S and I also spray him down morning and night with Magnesium oil.
