Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and insomnia

prozac

Avatar f tn Hi i'm on Prozac and trazodone if you start on a low dose of trazodone it shouldn't be an issue and there really is no interaction with trazodone and Prozac because I've been on trazodone and Prozac for years and I've never had a problem you just have to take it like maybe you're better off just taking half a tablet or something
Avatar f tn I am currently on 20 mg of prozac and .5 of xanax. The insomnia from the prozac is crazy. I have a prescription for trazadone but do not want to take because of the interaction with the prozac. Ive been reading about melatonin. Has anyone tried taking it for sleep? Did it help? And will the insomnia from prozac get better and how long would that take?
Avatar f tn yesterday I went dr for anxiety and not sleeping at night. told her about my husband had been on Xanax for about 3 yrs and I have no in, so when my sleeplessness started , and anxiety I took one of his Xanax at times and some times I would have to take 2mg so she put me on 10 mg of prazac and 1mg of Xanax . my question is I scared to death of the anti-depressant because I have heard good people doing bad things on them I told her I was afraid of them but she insisted I take both.
Avatar m tn s syndrome. In December 2007, I began to have sleep difficulties and my psychiatrist took me off prozac - which triggered a prolonged and persistent insomnia that can last for up to six days at a stretch. It is caused by ruminations that persist regardless of study intensity during the day time or mental/physical fatigue. There has been no official diagnosis and my case has been treated symptomatically, a most unsatisfactory and erratic approach.
Avatar f tn First of all, taking a benzo for sleep purposes isn't the best idea -- it's an addictive drug and they can stop working, making your insomnia worse. It's best to find a better long-term solution if you can. Prozac is a more stimulating antidepressant for many people, so that probably explains the sleeping problem. This might go away as side effects happen before effects do, or it might not.
459689 tn?1276570143 25 mgs and started yesterday taking it in the morning so maybe i should just wait and see. i was on prozac 20 mgs daily and did not have this problem. i recently did 2 week long ward stays and i have been unable to sleep since. i ask the doc and he says it is anxiety, i ask about the night sweats and he says the same thing. does anyone else have this problem?
517130 tn?1223039824 Nervousness, insomnia, ANXIETY, tremor, agitation, headaches............the list of side effects of Prozac is quite extensive. You say you've just started taking them, so you have anywhere from 1-4 weeks for it to reach it's therapeutic level. During that time you should expect to feel like you're still on that emotional roller coaster, but you should also begin to gradually feel a lessening of that turmoil. Your doctor was remiss in not telling you to avoid alcohol.
Avatar m tn I'm just wondering what Prozac is and what it actually does to help anxiety/depression. Can you get buy it over-the-counter, or is it prescription-only?
Avatar f tn I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 days and have severe insomnia, constipation and dizziness. Will these side effects last long? Will they go away eventually?
Avatar m tn m a 16 year old boy and i was prescribed topamax 25mg for migraines over a year ago. A few months ago i was also prescribed wellbutrin 300mg and prozac 10mg for depression and anxiety. When I first started taking the topamax i hardly sweated. I did start sweating a fair amount before taking the wellbutrin and prozac but the sweating has just increased since then and i've been getting large stains on my armpits just from sitting in class.
Avatar m tn i feel paranoid all the time and suffer from depression insomnia and cant remember the last time i smiled. what i want to know is whether or not its possible to wean myself off this drug and continue to work. taking a leave from my job is not an option. is there any safe supplement to help ease the wds? how long do the wds last and will i ever feel better again? what are the wd symptoms? ive found doctors to be full of **** as they tend to downplay the wds.
1836616 tn?1328680609 I have been on Fluoxetine (prozac) and Amitriptyline at night for insomnia and today I had a side effect that had me dizzy light headed and faint feeling and tonight when I took my Amitriptyline instead of making me tired it has givin me energy that I didn't have earlier.... So FRUSTRATED!!!!
Avatar f tn You say "I don't have panic and anxiety attacks only ever had 2 of them. my problem is falling asleep and staying asleep." Nowhere in your story did you say you suffered with depression. So I wonder why your doctor keeps putting you on what sounds like a hit and miss roller coaster of antidepressants. While it's true that many antidepressants can help you sleep better, why treat you with a medication you don't need?
Avatar f tn I also suffer from very bad anxiety, and insomnia. The drug has definitely helped with depression, and evened out my moods, but the insomnia is getting a bit out of control. When I first started taken it, I was literally only getting a maximum of 1 hour sleep a night, then I started taking sleeping pills which increased my sleep to about 4 hours a night (not much help, but better than 1 hour!
Avatar m tn I am taking Vyvanse and Prozac, and I'm having trouble getting myself to eat. I am still in a healthy weight range, so I'm not worried about that. But I've been weak, fatigued, and dizzy at times because I'm not eating enough. Are there any protein shakes I should try, or something like that, so I can be getting the nutrients I need? I hate most protein shakes because I can't stand the texture, and they're usually gross. But I have to do something.
Avatar m tn Yes, vivid dreams are quite common with Prozac (and various other type medications). When I took Prozac I would have pretty intense and bizarre dreams. I found taking Prozac in the morning helped minimize this side effect for the same reason. If the dreams become so bad you cannot sleep properly then you'll have to make a decision on what you can stand and what is best for you. I eventually embraced the dreams, knowing they would come and they were not real.
Avatar f tn I was on Lexapro when I found out I was pregnant, and both my psych and OB agreed that Prozac was a safer alternative. I had no issues and my baby was fine. Of course there is no guarantee that a medication won't somehow affect your pregnancy or baby, but these days, a lot of women take an antidepressant during their pregnancies. The best thing to do is have a talk with your OB and involve both the prescribing doc AND your OB in the decision making process.
Avatar m tn Prozac was not an energy booster for me, i think energy comes from nutrition, and exercise and getting off my arse. i would take natural tiredness over insomnia and having to take a sleep aid any day. look up the history of Zoloft on whikopedia, notice that it was banned in europe until magically in 1991 it was approved. you can read the %'s from the double blind studies right there. then resarch prozac.
2044839 tn?1331255841 Hello there! A friend of mine is on Prozac for depression and it works awesome for her. She used to cut herself everywhere because of a severe social disorder (sorry, the name escapes me), bipolar depression, and an anxiety disorder. The difference was like night and day. She had to go through inpatient care just because of her specific condition, but the Prozac was the first thing they tried when she was sent home, and she's been great.
Avatar f tn I was having really bad menopause symptoms, anxiety, nausea, loss of appetite and insomnia. So the doc put me on 10 mg prozac about 16 days ago... And then ambien for sleep. He told me the start up of prozac does this..gets worse before better. Then regarding the norco...I realized I was taking it on an empty stomach at night... Which can make you nauseating. So I decided I want off of it...I am tapering the doc though that would be a good idea. Anyway... I'm really sick...
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have taken Prozac for about two years. The main side effects I've noticed were initial insomnia and some facial swelling. Anytime I've gone down I have had some weird dreams. I just recently went up in meds and my face is puffy so that's annoying. Other than that Prozac has been a great drug for me.
Avatar f tn I believe I read somewhere but dont quote me prozac and wellbutrin are ok during pregnancy as are other SSRIs, TCAs like Tofranil and pamelor are considered safe to use during pregnancy. I am sure your doctor can share better insight.
5377229 tn?1367102940 What can she do to help herself? She w as taken off both on Wednesday and put on prozac. Can she use tylenol for the headache? Someone told her it is not safe to do. Another person suggested melatonin. Is that safe? She is bi polar and has gained over 100 lbs on these meds over the last 6 years. This is ridiculous! Will she gain on prozac also? What is wrong with these psychiatrists, anyway? It makes me sooooo angry!
