Propranolol for svt

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol for svt

inderal

Avatar m tn SVT stands for "supraventricular tachycardia" ST stands for "sinus tachycardia" PVC stands for "premature ventricular contraction" SVE stands for "supraventricular ectopics" The term "SVT" is used to reprsent any rhythm that originates above the ventricle (i.e. from the sinus node, atria, or AV node).
Avatar m tn I actually spoke with the electrophysiologist that did my ablation after posting my question, and she told me she believes I have IST and that I should go back on the Propranolol for it. Of course I know that the ablation successfully treated my SVT, but since I've been having symptoms of IST both before and after the ablation, isn't it likely that they are independent of the procedure?
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn t help noticing it. I have been taking Propranolol 10mg as needed for about a year for anxiety and racing pulse due to anxiety, it helps somewhat. But for the last couple weeks I get these random bouts of very unpleasant sensation in my chest followed by my heart racing immensely in the span of a few seconds. Like I will be sitting or at rest and get up and it will just race. Usually I chew on a Xanax or Propranolol and that gets it under control somewhat but it's still scary.
Avatar m tn Hey guys, I was recently told I have SVT and have some questions as I've never heard of this before. Before I get into the questions I should tell you my story: I'm 22 years old and the past 4 months for me have been awful. It all started when I felt my heart skip a beat in early june. Immediately after it happened I lost my breath and my heart started racing. I got really bad anxiety and had a panic attack.
Avatar f tn Not sure how to edit my question above but I also take Metroprolol 25 mg ER (split in half twice a day) and Propranolol 50 mg at night. The Propranolol was added about 8 weeks ago when I was complaining of the high heart rate at night plus higher blood pressure.
Avatar n tn t have a prolonged sustained tachyarrhythmia, such as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), brief runs of 3-4 PACs are not life-threatening (unless she has a structurally abnormal heart). She certainly may be at risk for developing SVT, but if she has a structurally normal heart, it will be a nuisance and is also typically not life-threatening. The natural history of it is for it not to spontaneously resolve.
Avatar f tn The runs were shorter on the Metoprolol, but that is about all that changed. (Paroxysmal runs of SVT for 2-3/seconds up to 2-3 hours. So he said I could just stop the Metoprolol. The only plan for now is to try the TENS vagal stimulation (which he was fine with), take Propranolol for sleeping, and call him if it gets worse. The next med to try is Sotolol. For now I am just going to wait and see. I'm tired of the meds.
Avatar m tn i had SVT on 24h holter monitor 95 episodes and 12 episodes of Vtach!Whith medicine i should drink Anti Arrhitmic or beta blockers?
Avatar f tn Following up with my cardiologist, he did a 48hour holter which he skimmed through and told me looked like I had an episode of SVT (which I had every day for a week following). But when the episodes are happening, I can feel skipped and hard beats but my pulse doesn't seem abnormally fast. Not any of the episodes I've had feel like an abnormally fast heart beat, just a very abnormal beat. Does anyone else experience SVT like this?
Avatar f tn I'm a 21 year old woman, and I was diagnosed with SVT in May (after experiencing it for the past 8 years) after an episode that was finally caught on an ECG (the paramedics told me it was SVT, but didn't give the ECG print out to the doctor in the emergency room, so I don't know what type of SVT it is, and sometimes I worry that it's not SVT and they just misdiagnosed me).
Avatar f tn Hi, thank you for responding to my post. I had a normal echo and wore a 24 holter. I know it did not show anything although I haven't received official results. Labs are all fine. I do take propranolol 10mg twice daily. I see a cardiologist Thursday july 5th.
Avatar f tn Propranolol hydrochloride (generic for Inderal and other trade names) is a beta blocker and as such has as one of its main attributes, lowering the blood pressure. The number you show is too low, I believe, and you should discuss this with the doctor. I don't know about EP studies relative to ablation, but it seems from what I know about it that it could be a great first step in determining what has to be ablated.
Avatar m tn Have tried any other beta blockers besides Propranolol? Physicians sometimes have a go-to drug perhaps because they've been using it for so long and are not familiar with perhaps more modern drugs. Propranolol, aka. Inderal has been around for a very long time. Because of it's non-selectivity, it is used for a number of treatments other that cardiac issues. This could be one reason why you don't feel "right" when taking it.
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar n tn sorry, the ablation was for SVT, not AVT
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn Hello! I am 20 years old. I was diagnosed with PSVT back when I was 17 but I had only had 3 episodes back then. It didn't occur for a few years until recently in October when I had my episode but it had lasted longer this time around. It lasted for 10 mins and it started to occur more frequently and became worse.
Avatar m tn Hi, thanks for your answer! Well I do have dysautonomia who is the same thing than you... My sympathetic nervous system is working too much and the parasympathetic one don't work enough who lead to most of my symptoms... Like you, my symptoms like tachycardia was under control for a little whe with the propranolol but now it's doing nothing at all...
170935 tn?1225371076 I was on a LOT of propranolol for svt during my pregnancies. My first pregnancy, I only had to take a bit and did quite well. My babies were smallish from being on the meds. My 9 yr old was a week early and 6#7. My 5yr, the second pg, was much more difficult. I ended up needing about 10x as much medicine as my heart did not tolerate the 40% increase in blood volume. Labetalol is safer for the baby and as a mom, you will forever do whatever you can to take care of your kids.
Avatar f tn I use Pranolol for adrenaline-induced PACs, anxiety/sinus tachycardia and probably some SVT, though this is never found on EKG. 10 mg a day is a minimal dosage. I use 10 + 10 and I'm surprised it even works. Those using high amounts of Pranolol / Metoprolol use 200-300 mg a day. Maybe I'm a little stupid here, but a heart rate of 170 while running (on a time schedule) doesn't seem high at all.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar n tn I have a 20 year old male friend who has been diagnosed with SVT. His echocardiogram and stress test were normal. Resting pulse was 100 until medicated. He is on propranolol 20mg/day My concern is the heaviness in the chest he experience which can then increase to severe pain radiating down his left arm when he has an attack which renders him unable to function. (Last episode the severe pain lasted 1 hour with pain level reaching 7 out of 10.
