Propranolol for migraines

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol for migraines

inderal

Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried PROPRANOLOL for prevention of Migraines? I have struggled with headaches almost every day & Migraines aprox every 7-10 days for the last 10 years. Feverfew has helped but they now seem to be getting worst so I was thinking of asking my GP if I could try Propranolol.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed an increase in propranolol for migraines and anxiety.I was taking 120mg in the morning(extended release) and my doctor has raised the dose to 160mg. I had been taking the propranolol in the morning, but have read that the best time to take it is in the nighttime. Does anyone know what would be the best time morning or nighttime? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Results vary among people, but, for migraines, I was taking 240 mg Inderal LA (Propranolol slow release) every day, in divided doses, I was fine. One site I just viewed suggested dosing as 40mg twice a day of Standard Propranolol or 80 mg Slow Release once a day. For the Standard Propranolol, they listed 640 mg as the maximum per day, in divided doses, so you're clearing that by a wide margin.
Avatar f tn I have Chronic Migraines for the past 4 or 5 years. A Migraine that never goes away, I have tried several medications for it but nothing helps. I have a small cyst at the right side base of my brain, and was wondering that could be possibly a trigger in causing migraine.
Avatar f tn I have been feeling lightheaded, short of breath, arms feel heavy especially when i raise them up to shoulder level, head feels weird, no migraine pain. I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out.
Avatar n tn I have been having migraines for the last 5 to 6 years and i want to know what i can do about them i get them more and more. I have a migraine atleast 7 times a month. I have no idea what to do about them and i hope that someone can answer my question?
Avatar f tn The persons age, a description of the migraine type, gender, medications currently taken, frequency of migraines, what has been done for the migraines, what works, what doesn't... What brings them on???? I guess I am saying, you are asking what seems like a simple question, about a VERY complicated subject. Beta blockers, generally lower your blood pressure, and slow your heart rate. Is the heart rate of 60, at rest? after excersize? sitting? standing?... A child with that heart rate?
Avatar f tn To date I hvae been on three medications for my headaches (meloxicam, zomig and propranolol) but nothing seems to help. My headache has lasted for a month straight but it seems to be getting worse. My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead.
Avatar f tn What are some things you can do for migraines??? I have always suffered from migraines and as of today am totally off my daily meds that help keep migranes away. Also I can't take my rescue meds.
1868815 tn?1412541757 The concurrent medications that I am currently taking now is Proprandol for anixety now, Amitripyline for my triptans (Day 7 still the same painful migraines), and Ambien for insomina. The nasal sprays I stop taking because of blood pressure was being low.
687729 tn?1397992727 I have been taking Klonopin and Propranolol for years, being treated for a benign tremor and migraines. I'm tired of feeling dopey all the time and I have quit the Klonopin and cut my Propranolol dosage in half. I've been getting leg cramps and headaches (not full-blown migraines, but nagging headaches that make me want to go back on the Klonopin). Can I expect these symptoms to disappear?
778037 tn?1377986200 The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis. If a satisfactory response is not obtained within four to six weeks after reaching the maximum dose, Inderal therapy should be discontinued.
Avatar f tn Why on earth were you on a beta-blocker (Heart medicine, Propranolol) for a sore throat? Someone made a mistake.. I would seek help Immediately. Though 2 weeks of propranolol wouldn't hurt you I would say you could probably have Incurred a bad side effect from the Propranolol.
Avatar f tn I am 23 and have been suffering from intense migraines for about 12 years. Seizuresfor about 3 years, but this isn't about the seizures.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Ok I'm 25 years old. I have been suffering Migraines for almost 15 years . Maybe its me But .. Does any medications work .. I have been on almost everything..
Avatar f tn s been a life safer for me. I have had chronic migraines since age 5 and they got really bad during this pregnancy.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn If any one can help answer my question, I would be so grateful. I have been hospitalized in the ER three times in the past two weeks for bradycardia. All this suddenly started happening in the last two weeks. I start to feel weak, have a seizure, this last time, I fell down on the kitchen floor and hit my head pretty good. I am a 28 yr old female who has been on propranol for almost 4 years. I have a at home blood pressure monitor, that also checks my pulse and I do it religiously.
Avatar f tn I am 47 and have suffered from migraines and headaches for about 6 years. The only thing that helped was Topamax. I used it about 6 years ago for about 2-3 months. Unfortunately, it made me extremely nauseous and my hair started to fall out. I am so desperate for relief that I asked my doctor to try it again, but at a lower dosage. The first day I took 25 mg and felt Like I had "morning sickness" all day. I am supposed to gradually increase to 200 mg by the end of the month.
Avatar f tn I have had ocular migraines since age 12. I am 55 now. For the first 20 years I had severe headaches with vomiting and the visual auras. Since mid 30’s they are primarily all visual. Blind spot, zigzags lasting about 40 minutes, mild headache and then feeling like you have had the flu. They have ranged from 1 every few years to several a day. They definitely come in clusters. Lately have only had several a year until this month again. It had been 6 months.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
