I suffered a severe brain trauma 11 years ago when I was 18 (was in a medically induced coma for 2 weeks to try and reduce brain activity since my brain had bleeding and swelling) due to a car accident.
Within two weeks of waking from my coma, I regained enough motor and cognitive skills to be released from the hospital. Eventually I got on with life and was able to function just fine.
I am a pediatrician. I would like to seek your expert opinion on traumatic brain injury. 1) Is there a consensus on the height of a fall which would be fatal in an infant of few months old? 2)Is it possible for a head injury that caused skull fracture with subdural and subarachnoid hemorrahge to occur without external scalp wound or bruise? I would like to know if a head injury that I had in childhood (I was hit on the head and I lost consciousness).. if it can have effects later in life.. like if i live a traumatic experience that reminds me of the one I lived when i was a child.. can my brain disjunct and can I be paralyzed.. like a stroke something?
I've read that traumatic brain injury can increase the risk of pituitary tumors and that this can lead to hormonal problems. However, this is rare.
A good friend of mine was in a bad car accident and was taken to the hospital about a year and a half ago. He had many broken bones, a collapsed lung, and a traumatic brain injury. Previous to the accident he was a daily pot smoker. He's doing really good now and has had no problems with breathing, although he does have some trouble with his short term memory from time to time. This may be due to the past weed smoking, but he is leaning toward smoking weed again.
The symptoms you have described may be due to some form of injury to your lower back nerves and I believe the previous brain injury is not the sole cause of the problem.
There could also be some form of injury to the nerves originating from the lower back spine that controls urination and erection. Problems with the glands inside the pelvis such as the prostate can also give rise to these symptoms.

So I would think they cover injuries. There are other associations for those with tumors - like us.
It is possible to see a change in personality and develop anger post traumatic brain injury. It is often due to post traumatic stress. It would help greatly to join anger support groups and counseling sessions. You can learn meditation and anger control techniques during these counseling sessions. Yoga also helps in a great way. Deep breathing exercises too help control anger. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
I would like to know if an injury that happeed during brain surgery in which a general surgeon assisting my neurosurgeon retracted too forcefully caused an injury which left me with a left sided hemiparesis, 1.5 years of LT/ST memory loss and a seizure disorder, is actually a traumatic brain injury.
Also, could this be the cause of my insatiable hunger, inability to lose weight, and pre-diabetes given its proximity to the hypothalamus?

Small regions of encephalomalacia inferior both frontal lobes similar to prior exam due to known prior traumatic injury. Small T2/FLAIR hyperintensities inferior both frontal lobes slightly reduced due to known injury. 2. Tiny T2 FLAIR/FLAIR hyperintensity left parietal white matter unchanged and nonspecific. A few new small T2/FLAIR hyperintensities in white matter of the cerebral hemispheres are non-specific.
I have taken many MRIs (with and without contrast) after my mild Traumatic Brain Injury and diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Faced no problems with contrast. Very rarely I heard people cannot tolerate the contrast. Some labs do a Creatine (?) test before giving contrast. You can ask your lab about that.
I have been suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome for 2+ years now. Headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue etc., and my symptoms got worse only after 5 weeks.
You may have better luck with the neurologist/neurosurgeon though, since they are very familiar with brain injuries. Finally, I would recommend that you try and find a traumatic brain injury group in your area (you can just look them up on the internet and find a group near you). These groups can be a great source of information, support and ideas from people who have had a similar experience to you and your daughter. I hope these ideas are helpful for you.
