Avatar m tn Hello, I've been using propranolol over a year for performance anxiety. I made the mistake to stop cold turkey for about two weeks during semester break. I used to take 120mg. When school started again, during the first week I used propranolol for two days at the same dose and I realised that blushing, high blood pressure, palpitations came back. The second week I tried to increase the dose in order to overcome withdrawl. However, the outcome was even worse.

Avatar f tn Prior to being pregnant I would take 5-10mg of Propranolol a few times a month for performance anxiety. I have withheld using it so far but it has really hindered me at work. I have a big presentation I need to give this week in front of 150 people and fear getting on stage without taking it. However, I am also nervous about any potential harm to my baby. Can you clarify if it is safe to use propranolol (5mg) infrequently during the remainder of my pregnancy??? thank you very much!!
Avatar n tn //></a>. Inderal will continue to help your stage flight as before even if you were on Inderal prophylaxis for migraine, because the additional dose will give you the desirable effects. Inderal will not eliminate all the anxiety in public speaking... Inderal may sometimes create problems, e.g.
Avatar m tn I'm considering the minimum dose of propranolol as prescribed by my doc, but i'm very cautious and wanted to know what it is like and what any side effects and withdrawl might be like. what can i expect when taking this? i enjoy working out so i'm hoping it wouldn't affect my weight lifting and cardio that i like to do. thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn Anyone got any suggestions for what I try next for performance anxiety (public speaking)? Propranolol is doing funny things to my head (fuzzy, blurry thinking, verging on mini-intermittent headaches) a week or so after taking it. Strange thing is, I was using it fine for about 5-6 years, then suddenly I've developed these side effects... I could live with them, but for the fact they stay around for several weeks after just one dose and it drives me crazy...
Avatar f tn After doing some research on the internet, I understand that propranolol will only relieve the anxiety symptoms (trembling voice and shaky hands) but will not relieve the anxiety itself - I understand that xanax will give some relief to the anxiety itself - so that's probably why my doctor prescribed both medicines. I will keep u posted on what happens during the presentation.
Avatar f tn Also, at least according to what I've read, beta blockers tend to work best with social anxiety and performance anxiety.
Avatar n tn unless having less anxiety and depression is a stimulant. The anxiety and depression relief was enough to make emotional space for attention to other issues.
Avatar m tn Hello, so basically I've been using ashwagandha, rhodiola rosea(with breaks) and propanolol for performance anxiety. The problem is that when I use this regimen I have this weird and bad odor coming from my pores. However, this happens occasionally during the day and not all the time. I have come to the conclusion that there are two possible causes. 1) according to one study ashwagandha caused thyrotoxicosis to a 32-year-old woman http://www.ncbi.nlm....
Avatar f tn I am reasonably healthy and cannot see a reason for this to start happening. Is it possible that the stress and anxiety that I have been through could have manifested itself in my hands (and what feels like my arms)and make them shake? I feel like I am picking things up and moving them about as if I was extremely nervous. I also feel like I can feel the blood pumping through my upper body as my heart beats and I am constantly tired. I haven't had to stop doing anything.
3060903 tn?1398568723 Because beta blockers don’t affect the emotional symptoms of anxiety such as worry, they’re most helpful for phobias, particularly social phobia and performance anxiety. If you’re anticipating a specific anxiety-producing situation (such as giving a speech), taking a beta blocker in advance can help reduce your “nerves.” Beta blockers include drugs such as propranolol (Inderal) and atenolol (Tenormin).
Avatar m tn I imagine this feeling will help keep anxiety at bay. 4) Go to websites and forums such as this one and read about what other people are going through and inform yourself on what may or may not be causing your situation. Try different solutions until one works. I can't imagine that any of the proposed solutions will have any negative impacts on you. (Except maybe prescription medications) 5) Let yourself go and just accept the fact that you are having an anxiety issue. Don't sweat it.
Avatar n tn The two most widely used medications for specific social phobia associated with performance situations are Atenolol and Propranolol. These medications are also indicated for hypertension, cardiac disease and certain types of arrythmias and can help with the physical symptoms (heart racing) in patients with social phobia. The potential side effects include fatigue, nightmares, and bradycardia.
Avatar n tn Propranolol is best known for its benefit in performance anxiety. If your anxiety disorder does not include performance anxiety as a major component, you may consider weaning off Propranolol, after consulting with your psychiatrist. Sertraline is expected to take care of the anxiety as well as the depression.
Avatar f tn was it Inderal (generic name Propranolol)? Inderal, has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of performance "anxiety" Some performers and musicians use it to reduce the autonomic nervous system arousal BUT other bb's on a regular basis can cause depression.
503727 tn?1210442710 I feel so unstable, and when I say unstable, I mean I feel like I cannot control anything and my panic and anxiety can just take me over. But have you ever noticed that even in the middle of the worse anxiety attack, if your in public with friends or something, you will aways excuse yourself properly before running off? I notice I do that, it's weird. Some may not, I dunno. The most important thing is that you are not alone and you are not crazy!
Avatar m tn I have never been able to do well in interviews, public speaking, etc... extremely distressing and lowering my quality of life. I have come across propranolol in my research and it really seems like the vast majority from people with similar symptoms that this drug is an absolute game changer. Note I am not interested in anxiety medication that I could potential come addicted to hence my interest in this drug compared to SSRIs.
Avatar f tn I am a graduate student. I have a fear of public speaking and a stage/performance fear when I speak in front of new people or students of my class. A few of my classes require that I give powerpoint presentations in front of the class. When I am on the spot, my voice and hands become shaky - I sometimes lose concentration to the point that I cannot get words out of my mouth even though I go in front of the class very well prepared.
Avatar f tn Hello dear friends, I have social anxiety disorder only when I have to go and do some performance related activity or be scrutinized or go through an interview. I was prescribed clonazepam to use when needed. I got only 10 pills, 0.5 mg each. I took 0.25 mg just to try and see if it agrees with my body and it was fine. 12 hours later I took 0.5 mg. It seemed to make me drowsy which is fine, then I came across klonazepam warnings on the Internet. I stopped abruptly even though I took 0.
Avatar f tn i get it when im sleeping and these noises just come into my head and becomes real load and then this anxiety feeling comes1 the only way i could get rid of it was by talking to someone or turning the tv on! the silence just becomes to much and every thing becomes a lot echo in my head! all things that everyone else has explained on here is just like how i feel! i really thought i was the only one and i keep of thinking there is something wrong i just hope its not dangerous!
Avatar n tn The propranolol will help with the shakes and also anxiety, but if the anxiety is more pronounced and/or with panic attacks then my guess would be that the doctor would prescribe clonazepam with it. This is something to discuss with your doctor and it might mean a trip to the neurologist to confirm what sounds like essential tremor which, by the way, is more of an annoyance than a serious problem.

General Anxiety For general anxiety, medications help reduce some of the symptoms of anxiety. (Escitalopram oxalate) Lexapro has been approved for treatment of GAD. Avatar f tn GP put me on citalopram which I went along w/ just to be cooperative, and propranolol to help regulate what he viewed as anxiety-induced tachy. Did not seem to find it significant that symptoms did not occur during periods of actual mental anxiety. Said it might be pheochromocytoma, but that he wouldn't bother testing as that's so rare. Ashamed to say I didn't and still haven't actually demanded said testing.
Avatar n tn If you are feeling depression and anxiety, treatment of your underlying depression and anxiety will help your tremor. Also, cessation of smoking and caffiene intake may improve your tremor as well. While alcohol is known to improve BET, excessive alcohol consumption is recommended against since alcohol is addictive and harmful if not used moderately. I recommend continued follow-up with your doctor.
443862 tn?1238003039 And its not Metoprolol that helps anxiety. It's actually Propranolol that treats stage fright and performance anxiety, which is a b2, not a b1 blocker. Just some thoughts.
1448936 tn?1363209946 I am prescribed xanax but I got rid of them all last week so I am hanging in there without. I know how difficult and scary it can be to have bad anxiety and panic attacks. I will prayer for the both of us that we can get through this difficult day. You really just have to stay busy. When I sit around and think about it and how bad I feel it gets much much worse. I been cleaning my house and cooking a lot of different stuff.
Avatar m tn We went to see a new neurologist (the other one had moved away), who was reluctant to put him back on the Propranolol after just one episode; also, my son runs track and cross-country, and Propranolol prevents the heart from speeding up as much as it normally would, so can interfere with running performance. Instead, he prescribed a bunch of supplements: vit. D, CoQ10, magnesium, & B-complex. He also wanted him to eat a lot of protein. He did a lot of blood work, which was all normal.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take this drug just once in a while, whenever I consider it could help my performance and just wait for the next occasion? Is it that safe? Let's say I take 10 mg every two or three weeks: am I running a risk? Please, I apprecciate any comment on this.
Avatar n tn 41 Scott, You have been diagnosed with social phobia (social anxiety disorder) and are taking Buspar and propranolol which may be helpful medications for this disorder. Additionally you had a trial of Prozac (an antidepressant, so called SSRI) but discontinued it. Prozac (and other SSRI's) have had the most research of all the agents used in treating social phobia and so far seems to be the most efficacious. It can be taken safely in combination with Buspar.
