Prometrium natural or synthetic

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium natural or synthetic

prometrium

1404364 tn?1289431561 m wondering though if provera is essentially the same as Prometrium? I know Prometrium is more of a natural progesterone and Provera is synthetic, but I have already done 10 days of prometrium and no period came. Ugh...so frustrating! I have not been diagnosed, but I have heard of Metformin. Of the symptoms of PCOS, the only one I have is the absense of a cycle. I will for sure ask about it...it's worth a shot!
760797 tn?1303264540 just checked and prometrium IS natural progesterone. don't let anyone put you on a synthetic progestin. check your scripts and be sure they are bioidentical, natural progesterone NOT progestins.
Avatar f tn Doctors generally prescribe natural progesterone for pregnancy support. Some forms of synthetic progesterone can cause the development of male characteristics, including increased body hair and larger muscle mass. In addition, some forms of synthetic progesterone are known to cause birth defects and others may be toxic to the fetus. With Crinone 8%, women can be assured that they are receiving natural progesterone supplementation that is safe for them as well as their developing baby.
Avatar f tn I always get tender breasts after ovulation when progesterone goes up. Prometrium is a synthetic progesterone, so that can cause breast tenderness in and of itself...and then, if you ovulated, the follicles you had will produce progesterone, as well...so the levels are most probably much higher for you this cycle than normal. It should subside at the end of the cycle.
Avatar f tn I also took 200mg prometrium and probably 3g of folic acid. What I read was that synthetic progesterone is what is not safe during pregnancy but prometrium is the natural form and it is safe for pregnant women. (My dh is a pharmacist and thinks they just put those stickers on the bottle to cover themselves) My RE said I could quit the prometrium at 8 weeks but I was paranoid and kept taking it until 10 weeks with no problems whatsoever. Good luck - I hope it works for you!
Avatar f tn I would keep using it through the end of your first tri-mester. Pro-Gest is a natural progesterone and it should be fine. Having a sudden drop in progesterone levels can be bad for the pregnancy. If you were using a synthetic kind of progesterone, I wouldn't keep using it and would switch to a natural progesterone like prometrium or crinone. BUT you should tell your doctor and find out what they say. I took a supplement till 12- 1/2 weeks and it worked out great!
Avatar n tn First of all, this is not uncommon to have periods that last this long. Many women experience them during perimenopause. The biggest concern on the first hand is the anemia and you've already checked that out and are fine. When bleeding doesn't stop, they will often prescribe Progesterone to stop the bleeding. It does stop the bleeding for the most part. This is usually standard treatment to stop lengthy bleeding as a "bandaid" solution.
Avatar f tn Is it possible that over the course of that day and the day or two leading up to ovulation that my lining would have thickened to a better level? I was put on prometrium to assist but am not sure whether I should be getting my hopes up.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
1892228 tn?1321996647 What are some pros/cons? Is it better or worse than synthetic hormones like levothyroxin or synthriod?
Avatar m tn There are advantages and disadvantages to, both, desiccated (so-called "natural" hormones) and synthetic hormones. Synthetic hormones are supposedly identical to the ones your body would make if it could, while the desiccated hormones, such as Armour, NatureThroid, ERFA, etc come from pig thyroid. Pigs produce much more T3 (which is about 4 times more powerful than T4), than humans do and many of us don't need that much T3, though some do.
1302038 tn?1439575232 I would have maybe 3 periods a year (about 10 years ago) and bleed to the point where i was all in blood down to my knees on a public transport (i had to take my jacket off and tie it around my waist to cover the stains until i got home). I have been on Provera (synthetic drug)....was really bitchy, kinda in state of depression...but with regular periods! (most women hate their periods - I don't love it but i sure dont hate it either).
Avatar f tn Is it easyer to go natural like wait till your water break or get induced??? my hospital is 30 mins away from my house so my mom is tryna talk me into going to get induced when my doctor tells me to come in.
Avatar f tn t work, but might for you) with either menopur/clomid or menopur/femara, and I got as many as four follicles in a month. His theory was that natural progesterone is better than synthetic, and if I had four follices, and only one resulted in pregnancy, I would still have a little progesterone from the other 3 to kick start things.
Avatar n tn i may have to have my thyroid removed. which is better armour or one of the synthetic hormones? any risks with either?
1370609 tn?1306380021 Anyone here had a natural pregnancy without IVF and had to use Progesterone Endometrin 2 times a day and had a sucessful long term pregnancy?
947931 tn?1251495088 I want to drug test my son for Roxicet or the street name Blues...will an opiate test work ?
Avatar n tn I am not sure about whether or not the cause of the miscarriages were due to the Depo-Provera but I did furthur research and wanted to share some info with those individuals that don't know. Depo-Provera is a synthetic hormone. I was very young when I took it and didn't get all of the details (ignorance). If I would have known that fact alone, I wouldn't have taken it. If you have a low Progestrone Level it will more than likely cause you to have a miscarriage. Now.....
Avatar f tn I was on crinone (vaginal) and prometrium during my first pregnancy (IVF), and on prometrium only the second time around (natural pregnancy). Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy!
