Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.

My ultrasound on Tues at 5 weeks showed gestational sac and yolk sac. My hcg is now 8200 which it has been a little more than doubling but my progesterone is 26. My doctor is not worried and said I can take The progesterone suppositories if I wanted to, just so I don't have to worry. Any feedback?

He is also recommending IUI , will start progesterone supplements and heparin shots after I get a positive pregnancy result. He is not guaranteeing success with this treatment also.
My questions are : 1.I did not need help getting pregnant before. In all 3 cases I got naturally pregnant within 2 or 3 cycles. Do I really need these fertility drugs ? What if I try to naturally get pregnant and then start progesterone supplements after that ?

Also, I am going to try this month adding natural progesterone cream to the mix starting 2 days post ovulation. There is alot of information about that on the net. My RE also jump started follicle growthy for me (which for me didn't work, but might for you) with either menopur/clomid or menopur/femara, and I got as many as four follicles in a month.
She just says that the doctor is going to proscribe me prometrium.. So I research the medicine and I have mix feelings about it because it has only been used on a few pregnant humans but they have tested it on animals and there fetus had no problems. OK 1. IM 6 WEEKS 2. THOSE ANSWERS ABOUT THE MEDICINE WAS NOT reassuring. .. Has anyone had low progesterone and what did you do?
Prometrium is progesterone, and therefore if you are taking prometrium, a progesterone test will read positive. Were you taking the prometrium in your vagina or by mouth? Progesterone levels of 34 (if you are in the US) are a little high to come just from prometrium alone so I would have thought you had ovulated also. In Canada and Europle, the units used are different and a progesterone of 34 could be due entirely to the prometrium if you are writing from those countries.
Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.
I get a progesterone shot once a week and take prometrium every day twice a day. It's so worth it! Hang in there.

I also took 200mg prometrium and probably 3g of folic acid. What I read was that synthetic progesterone is what is not safe during pregnancy but prometrium is the natural form and it is safe for pregnant women. (My dh is a pharmacist and thinks they just put those stickers on the bottle to cover themselves) My RE said I could quit the prometrium at 8 weeks but I was paranoid and kept taking it until 10 weeks with no problems whatsoever. Gave up all hope quit all meds got divorced lost 60lbs found someone new told him we would never have kids i was preg 8 mnths later rushed to a high risk obgyn had every test in the world done found out i dont produce enough progesterone gave me vaginal prometrium i have a healthy 11mnth old son. I am also currently 11wks preg on prometrium again praying all works this time as this is my last one im getting to old now.
