Prometrium vs natural progesterone

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium vs natural progesterone

prometrium

760797 tn?1303264540 just checked and prometrium IS natural progesterone. don't let anyone put you on a synthetic progestin. check your scripts and be sure they are bioidentical, natural progesterone NOT progestins.
Avatar f tn Maybe I will ask him to add prometrium in addition to crinone. Originally he had prescribed only prometrium but it was a vaginal suppository. I did not know you can get those in pills, maybe I should ask for that ita17 - Thank you for sharing, I am glad it is working. As I had a failed IVF, I am trying to analyze every aspect so that I have a success next time.
Avatar n tn Prometrium is the same progesterone as that which the ovary makes - so it is 'natural'. It is probably safe to take throughout the first trimester. There are some researchers who believe that there might be a very small increase in the risk of a birth defect in boy babies called hypospadias - with hypospadias the urethral opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip or end.
1370609 tn?1306380021 Anyone here had a natural pregnancy without IVF and had to use Progesterone Endometrin 2 times a day and had a sucessful long term pregnancy?
Avatar f tn s right about the fluctuations during the day. I am taking a natural progesterone supplement. Its called Pro-gest by a company called Emerita. The natural form has no risk of side effects to the fetus and is absorbed very efficiently through the skin. Also you don't need a prescription for it. You can pick it up from most health food stores or buy it online. Good luck to you! It sounds like your levels are great!
377493 tn?1356502149 most of us have been on it.. usually suppositories... I used it with this pg and with the last one...
Avatar f tn I took progesterone (same as prometrium) in oil shots (IVF) - not fun but definitely worth it - until 12 weeks of pregnancy. Miranda, are you pregnant? did I miss the big announcement?
359142 tn?1321120923 I was using it with my last pregnacy (from ovulation and got a bfp) but when I went to have my blood levels checked my progesterone was only 5.8. They put me on prometrium and 2 days later it was over 40. So the creme, ummm, didn't seem to do anything for me. I bought some off Amazon and got some at Whole Foods.
Avatar f tn I was on crinone (vaginal) and prometrium during my first pregnancy (IVF), and on prometrium only the second time around (natural pregnancy). Best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy!
1110747 tn?1295844043 They wanted it to be above 20. I was put on crinone natural progesterone for a few weeks and then I was switched to prometrium. I'm finishing up my 13th week and will no longer have to take it. It supplements the progesterone levels until the placenta takes over. It's pretty common and luckily the supplemental progesterone can help. Also, I had some side cramping like you are describing early on too. It was pretty light and no bleeding accompanied the cramping.
594293 tn?1222655980 Yummy?! Lol.....well, I don't know about taste testing it! It's actually a natural progesterone cream. I suppose if I have one of those 'menopausal moments', I could try eating it for SUPER fast results!! (Just kidding.....please kids, don't try this at home...wink wink). Seriously though, it's a cream that the local health food store sells. It is supposed to be a very natural alternative to Rx progesterone. I have purchased a bottle but have not yet tried it out.
935576 tn?1246071706 I used the progesterone pills (Prometrium) this current pregnancy and now I'm almost 22 weeks. I've had 2 miscarriages in the past. Progesterone will work in a viable pregnancy (meaning there is nothing genetically wrong with the embryo). But if it is a blighted ovum or molar pregnancy then the progesterone won't work. It serves to keep your uterine lining from thinning out and thus miscarrying in the event your little one is perfectly healthy.
623920 tn?1276478891 I am taking prometrium to help support the pregnancy (if i am). I usually take provera to start my cycle because i am irregular. I believe you can take prometrium to do the same. I am wondering if i am not pregnant if my af will start while i am on the prometrium. I am not sure if the test they are doing is quantitative. Maybe they are just interpreting the numbers and telling if i am pregnant or not.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, the major clinical studies conducted compare estrogen-only to estrogen + progesterone. There haven't been any studies comparing daily vs every other day dosing of prometrium.
907699 tn?1251630847 I am on 50mg of progesterone suppositories that have to be made at a compounding pharmacy. I get mine shipped and they are working cuz my temps have gone up. The suppositories go straight to the area needed from what I hear.
1404364 tn?1289431561 m wondering though if provera is essentially the same as Prometrium? I know Prometrium is more of a natural progesterone and Provera is synthetic, but I have already done 10 days of prometrium and no period came. Ugh...so frustrating! I have not been diagnosed, but I have heard of Metformin. Of the symptoms of PCOS, the only one I have is the absense of a cycle. I will for sure ask about it...it's worth a shot!
Avatar f tn Also, I am going to try this month adding natural progesterone cream to the mix starting 2 days post ovulation. There is alot of information about that on the net. My RE also jump started follicle growthy for me (which for me didn't work, but might for you) with either menopur/clomid or menopur/femara, and I got as many as four follicles in a month.
Avatar f tn You produce progesterone naturally and it increases to help maintain pregnancy. I have been on prometrium and vaginal suppository progesterone since 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi, i would like to ask you if somebody had low progesterone and estrogen dominance but get worse after progesterone intake? I am not in menopause yet but have hot flashes and severe acid reflux. I think one of the reason is hormonal imbalace. After saliva test i was told i have low adrelas and cortisol, DHNA and progesteron level in comparison to estrogen. I was taking natural progesteron for 1 month but only 50 mg bc i was too drowsy with full pull.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 200mg of prometrium everynight since I found out at 4 weeks I'm currently 9 weeks my dr wants me to take them until 16 weeks. I was prescribed them because I had two miscarraiges in a row both at 5-5 1/2 weeks and they think it may have been due to low progesterone.
Avatar f tn Prometrium is progesterone, and therefore if you are taking prometrium, a progesterone test will read positive. Were you taking the prometrium in your vagina or by mouth? Progesterone levels of 34 (if you are in the US) are a little high to come just from prometrium alone so I would have thought you had ovulated also. In Canada and Europle, the units used are different and a progesterone of 34 could be due entirely to the prometrium if you are writing from those countries.
922048 tn?1387942584 I tried for a few months to get my progesterone level up, first w/the natural progesterone cream, then with Prometrium, then w/the suppositories. It seemed like nothing was working which didn't make any sense. Then in March I added a supplement called maca root. In case you haven't heard of it, it's an adaptogen that helps your body make the right amount of everything it needs.
Avatar f tn Im on Prometrium also...and no it doesnt delay your cycle or it hasnt mine....I like you take it after I ovulate....and conitnue to take it untel i get a positive or I start AF....I just started the Prometrium again last night so Im in the 2ww to see if we are pregnant this cycle....Im also on Clomid 100mg....the only side effect I have is from time to time I have a little Nauseau but not that bad....good luck to you and I hope this helps you out.
Avatar n tn I get a progesterone shot once a week and take prometrium every day twice a day. It's so worth it! Hang in there.
Avatar f tn Prometrium is to help raise the progesterone to aid in implantation of the baby. It is taken the day after Ovulation and till the period occurs. Now as it raises the progesterone it can delay your period if you are not pregnant as during the luteal phase (after ovulation) your progesterone will decrease and estrogen levels will rise talling your body to shed the uterine lining causeing yoru period to occur. When you take suppliments the progesterone stays up and may not fall till stopped.
384150 tn?1399904816 Has anyone with a short luteral phase used the natural progesterone cream and found it helpful??
Avatar f tn Thanks ladies! I feel better about stopping now. :) I may ask my doctor for a test just for peace of mind, though. Wishing you all a happy 9 months! I did some on-line research, too - here is a summary for those who are interested. It sounds like most doctor recommend stopping at the end of the 1st trimester and some as early as week 8.
