Prometrium heavy periods

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium heavy periods

prometrium

Avatar n tn I am 51 years old and I was told by my Ob/Gyn that I have estrogen dominance that is causing my endometrium to keep thickening and consequently causing heavy and long periods. I also have iron deficiency anemia because of this. I have had endometrial biopsies (about a year ago) and Pelvic/transvaginal ultra sounds which did show a thickened lining but otherwise normal. My Dr has prescribed Prometrium 200mgs to be taken for the 1st 5 days of my next period.
Avatar m tn My wife has been off of Prometrium for about a month and a half, and was originally prescribed it because she had very heavy, long periods. She ended up becoming very anxious while on the medication, so her doctor told her to stop and take birth control starting on her next cycle. My wife did not take the birth control, as we were in the process of moving and she wanted to consult a doctor in our new city. Since stopping the Prometrium, we've noticed that she has the following symptoms. 1.
Avatar f tn My gynac suggested me to take prometrium for 10 days after seeing a follicle. Its been 7 days now that i have stopped prometrium but still no periods. I have take HPT too in the past week and both the tests are negative. I am confused if I am pregnant or not Could some one suggest me here any solution. Also, when should we take the HPT once we stop prometrium.
Avatar m tn I'm 56 and not in menopause and I have no idea when it will happen. My last hormone tests show my estrogen to be decreasing - it was at level 53 but my FSH was only 4! I am trying to control my wacky and heavy bleeding with progestins with mixed results. Prometrium isn't working well and Aygestin is giving me cramps. I am considering having an endometrial ablation done which is an hour long procedure, they do a D&C, a histerscopy and the burning out the lining.
Avatar f tn I too am having heavy bleeding for long periods of time. I had a DNC done and four cysts removed in late December. I have bleed twice since then. My blood work shows I am estrogen dominant. My GYN says she wants to do the ablation. I do not understand why this would work if it will not stop my estrogen production. The estrogen obviously will still be produced. I have felt really great the past month until I started bleeding a week ago and now I just feel drained again and kind of depressed.
Avatar f tn I have always had regular periods, which stopeed in January. I finally got my period in April and it is lat agan. I was on metformin to get my periods going, but it upset my stopmach. My dr. just put me on Prometrium 200mg at bedtime with hope to get my period. Has anyone taken this for similar reason and what was your outcome? We are trying to get pregnant.
Avatar n tn Again, many women have these types of periods in perimenopause, only to go back to normal periods again or even start skipping them for awhile to any combination. The fact that you ARE on hormones already is saying to me that you MAY need an adjustment in those meds or, a change of them to perhaps, coming off of them under a doc's say-so. Make a call to your family doc or gynecologist and see what they have to say first.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF PROMETRIUM PROLONGS YOUR TIME IN BETWEEN PERIODS IF USED AS A SUPPOSITORY..??..SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A PERIOD BY NOW ~ 14PIUI ~ just wondering ~ and getting AWFUL nervous/EXCITED/nervous.....????.....REALLY TIRED too......go for blood work tomorrow ~....
Avatar f tn thank you so much. I 'm taking prometruim orally.
Avatar f tn I also do not have periods when not on a contraceptive pill. What my OB/GYN as well as my fertility specialist have prescribed me is a pill called Prometrium. I take that for 5-7 days out of the month and usually within two weeks of starting the first pill I have a period.
637951 tn?1257270344 I took Prometrium for 10 days ending Saturday, and I was wondering how long until I should begin my period? I am so ready to be able to start TTC!!
Avatar f tn My family doc gave me a prescription for Prometrium (200 mgs) because I was terrified of taking the Provera again due to side effects and heavy bleeding. Any information on how one feels while taking Prometrium (vs Provera) and whether it works to bring on a flow but, not a flood? I'm confused and cannot get my OBGYN by phone or even and appointment to talk to her. Any help would be much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Okay. Well, I have pcos too and my doctor put me on metformin 500mg three times a day and prometrium 200mg twice a day for 10 days each month. The metformin is good for me insulin levels and working with the prometrium my periods have come back after years of not having one. If your periods aren't coming and you're not ovulating it's so hard to have a baby. Ask your doc about putting you on metformin and prometrium or clomid. :) Good luck!
657357 tn?1240342642 I am 32 years old and yes all of the symptoms you mentioned are me! The heavy clotting, heavy bleeding and the pain is WOW! Very painfull! I saw a Nurse practitioner and she told me that I was just fine and she let me go. I started looking into this because I have to see and endocrinologist for my Hashimotos and I have a nodule on my right lobe with Hurthle cell change. I thank you so very much for your help!!
Avatar n tn Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.
Avatar n tn my prom is tomorrow and my periods are really heavy is there anything i can do to slow it down.
937427 tn?1247023856 i have absent periods, i take prometrium to have a period then start clomid. this is my fourth round.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I was wondering what your dr said about the prometrium helping you get preggo? I was just wondering what other uses they use prometrium for besides starting periods..
490183 tn?1361213953 From what I've read, most women will get their periods even though they're still taking prometrium, but it usually delays AF by a day or two...especially if your normal luteal phase (from O till AF) is on the short side. For women who get a beta HCG test done, I think the standard is to take progesterone until you get your test. If it's positive, continue until about 12th week or so; and if it's negative, stop taking it and wait for AF.
1160986 tn?1486819725 They told me to stop my Prometrium today and since it was my first time on it, I was wondering if anyone knows if AF will be heavier?
Avatar n tn I had some spotting with him if I did heavy exercise. The dr. said I had a placental lake. I started trying to conceive again about a year and a half ago. It took 6 months to become pregnant. I lost it a 6 weeks after I saw the heartbeat. It did not attach well and there was bleeding at the attach site. This was october 2006. I had a miscarrage 2 months ago at just a few weeks. I saw some mucus tissue pass. The doctor has done several lab tests. all which are normal.
Avatar f tn Just to comment about the prometrium it is great however please don't get the wrong idea. If you are going to miscarry you will and prometrium won't always work. I'm on 100mg prometrium 2x's day, additional folic acid, prenatal, 80mg baby asprin. I'm currently going through my 8th m/c with no live births. My last blood work showed my progesterone level at 59 and my beta 430. I was 4wks 5 days.
Avatar n tn Some get their periods anyway, but other have to stop taking prometrium before AF shows. They usually tell you to take it until you take a pregnancy test, then if positive, you'll continue to take it, and if negative, you'll stop. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn This is my first time posting a question so bear with me. I'm a 24 y/o F who has been trying to get pregnant since last April. I have very irregular and missed periods so my Dr. put me on 10 days of Prometrium. I had few side effects, fatigue, dizziness and some nausea. After the 10 days on the pill I am supposed to get my period and on day 3 of normal mentration return to the clinic for lab work to diagnose polycystic ovaries. It's been 7 days and no period yet.
Avatar f tn Well it was from 4/14-4/18 and pretty much consisted of heavy spotting and barely any cramping (unusual for me). Then on 4/26-5/1 - same thing!! So then I went to the OBGYN, after an u/s he believed that I wasn't ovulating. So he put me on Prometrium 200mg for 12 days. I started it on 5/2 and last night I began spotting. Then today heavy flow (mostly dark brown and kinda gooey) and cramps.
Avatar m tn While taking Prometrium for luteal phase defect, I got several faint positives on home pregnancy tests. But then I began bleeding (light but steady full flow). So I stopped taking the prometrium. I've been bleeding for a few days now--still more than spotting though less than before. But I decided to take another home pregnancy test anyways because something felt funny. Two different brands of test were positive, darker than before but still quite faint. What do I do now?
Avatar f tn I having my period after 2 months of treatment of cabergoline very heavy bledding and large blood clod for five days .Its that normal? I have miss period on the past with negative results of blood pregnancy test..
