Prometrium for ovarian cysts

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium for ovarian cysts

prometrium

Avatar f tn I just was diagnosed with 2 simple and 1 complex cyst. I have been prescribed prometrium for 10 days and they have another U/S after the withdrawl bleed. I am learning that what I thought was major back pain may also be from the cysts. Does anyone have any experience with this type of treatment?
Avatar f tn I wasn’t really given much light on what a ruptured ovarian cysts meant. But bloods were done and cancer/tumor markers have since been ruled out. I was put on birth control because aapoarently the hormonal properties in them will shrink the cyst. All good and well, but will this stop the bleeding? She called me in the very next day to take a scab because there were signs of irregular cells in my cervix. These results I will only get back next year as the doctor is now on vacation.
Avatar f tn After the past 4 times that my husband and I have had sex I have been experiencing pain and bloating in my abdomen...one time it lasted through the next day. I read that this could be a sign of ovarian cysts.. I also read that it could be air getting trapped in...has anyone ever experienced this? It's starting to scare me...thanks...
566175 tn?1278430472 Dr suggested that I cancel this months attempt to conceive, and start taking prometrium, today, to stop these follies from growing any further. It's my choice, and i hate to waste this cycle. The dr. says i should understand the risks: A. They are concerned that i might get OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) and they tell me this could be deadly if i proceed. B. Multiples are a big possibility We have borderline swimmer issues anyway so it probably wouldn't even matter.
Avatar f tn I do not have periods without taking progesterone. I can go many many months without a period without the progesterone. I am on cycle one of 50 mg of clomid (5-9) now. I have been using OPKs and they have not shown a LH surge but I think I have noticed changes in my cervical mucus. Could I have ovulated and it just didn't show on the OPK? I was also cramping something fierce on day 16. Is this common on clomid?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your kind reply. Avatar f tn Recently I had an ultrasound in which the tech found ovarian cysts. My question is could these cysts be the cause of my problems? Is it possible for cysts to move into the Intra-Abdominal area? Thank you for any answers.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the feedback. He put me on something called prometrium, said it's supposed to shrink them. The interesting thing is he must be concerned about my unhappiness as he called a few days ago. Now he wants to also put me on birth control pills which I find even more concerning as he said before surgery that they were not an option because of my age - 45. I'm so confused and disappointed with him I think it's time for a second opinion.
Avatar f tn I have my blood test on Monday. I am still taking Prometrium suppositories. Do you know if Prometrium will delay a period? I was gonna call my dr today but I feel like a nag!
1340383 tn?1309990914 I am trying to explore natural remedies for healing ovarian cysts..I have one (2.6 cm by 3.4 cm) on my left ovary and my Dr is suggesting birth control pills.. anyone heard of any herbs or food items to shrink cysts? Thanks!!
501229 tn?1210133631 “Even for large cysts - those that are more than 3 inches (similar size to my cyst) in diameter - normal ovarian tissue can almost always be saved. Remember that the ovaries contain hundreds of thousands of eggs, so that the loss of a small number should not make a difference in your fertility, your hormone levels or the age at which your menopause will begin.
329994 tn?1301663248 Thanks for responding Mary! I am on Prometrium. No, I am not having pain with the bleeding. I don't usually know that I have bled until I look in the toilet. and yes, I would hope that the doctor is wanting to shrink them with the progesterone; however, since I did not start bleeding after the 10 days nor did I have a regular period, I am just not sure what to think.
Avatar f tn Doctors with good cystectomy (cyst removal) skills can almost always remove ovarian cysts and preserve the ovary or enough of it for normal function. It may be more difficult to find a doctor who will do a cystectomy than an oophorectomy (ovary removal) because it takes a little more skill and time and I've read it typically doesn't pay any better.
1175033 tn?1492201228 I have never been actually diagnosed with ovarian cysts but I positive I get them. I havnt had insurance for quite a while now so I havnt seen a obgyn. 256161 tn?1196879046 I know lyme causes all kinds of different cysts. I'm not sure about the ovarian cysts though as they are quite common in women in general. Flagyl is a cyst buster so if you have lyme you may feel the herx reaction.
Avatar m tn I recently heard about a treatment for cancerous cysts that involves laser removal but goes in vaginally vs. requiring surgery. I can't find any details online. Has anyone heard of this? Is it even possible?
405998 tn?1222396217 I am 30 and have been on Yaz for about 2 years consistently. I have been having pain consistent with ovarian cysts for about 2 weeks and was given test results today from an ultrasound that that is in fact what is going on. I don't know anything else yet and am somewhat concerned since Yaz is supposed to suppress cysts.
Avatar n tn Hi , If you are in so much pain I would not wait a month, I would go back to my doctor and explain how you are feeling , If you feel like you aren,t being taken seriously then it may be time to look for another doctor !!! . If things get too bad you should go to ER , they will at least be able to give you some pain relief .
Avatar f tn m not sure which type of imaging (e.g., CT, MRI, ultrasound) is the best for viewing ovarian cysts. Do you have a copy of the report? If so, what does it say about the characteristics of the cysts? The important thing to know is that the ovaries produce hormones a woman's whole life which are critical to good health. Removal of even one ovary has been shown to do more harm than good when done for benign conditions (e.g., cysts or prophylactic).
3100626 tn?1341387176 A related discussion, <a href="/posts/Ovarian-Cysts/ovarian-fibriods-and-unable-to-take-any-meds/show/1812473">ovarian fibriods and unable to take any meds</a> was started.
Avatar f tn Most ovarian cysts, even complex ones, are benign. The average woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is very low - 1.3%. However, with your grandmother having had the disease, your risk may be greater. But it is important to determine your risk factors (e.g., BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing) before undergoing something as drastic as female organ removal with all its long-term negative effects.
Avatar f tn HI, Even though you may not want any more children, you are too young for a hysterectomy. The bleeding can be stopped with help of haemostatic medicines and with use of hormones like progestins. Also a D&C may sometimes be necessary to stop the bleeding. The ovarian cysts need further evaluation regarding their size and nature. Many of the cysts in young women respond to birth control pills or regress spontaneously. Hence it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation.
Avatar m tn Risk of cancer increases as we get older, you didnt mention your age or family history, they could affect the treatment. More than 95% of all ovarian cysts are benign, unilocular cysts are more than 99% benign according to some sites. If you are younger than 40 your risk of cancer is very small. Once you are over 40 or especially if you are post menopause, your risk of cancer increases although benign cysts would still be most common.
1310773 tn?1317095445 Mostly lower back pain for some reason and I was constantly tired. Have you been on prometrium before? Anyways, If you need to talk please feel free to message me. :D Again, Best Luck!! Lots of SSBD!!
