Positive elisa test negative western blot test

Common Questions and Answers about Positive elisa test negative western blot test

elisa-test

Avatar n tn In Medicine, when elisa test is positive and western blot is negative, your HIV status is considered HIV Negative. But to rule out the possibilities, they perform PCR test. I am sure it will be negative. Let us know how it goes.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week. Is it possible that I have contacted Hiv? If so, how? I used a condom and it didn't break. I also cannot have Hiv from previus relationships because I tested Hiv negative 9 months ago.
Avatar m tn I had my ELISA test a week ago and it turned out to be positive. I am so shocked when I knew it and yet I couldnt help anything about it. I am so down but I can still manage myself to do my ADL's (Activites of Daily Living). I submitted myself for a Western Blot and PCR and the result will be availble in a week or two. How high is the probability that I can have a postive on the latter tests? I need help. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hello All, Sorry for asking again So, as I understand it, If a western Blot test is negative 3 months after the exposure (assuming that I had a high risk exposure, which i didn't because I used a condom and you cannot get HIV from oral sex), than you're 100% negative (even if the ELISA is positive). Is there any chance that the western Blot negative result is false (if the test is performed 3 months after the exposure)?
Avatar n tn Is it possible to detect false -ve result in western blot test after performing ELISA test, what is the condition of person who has come with +ve ELISA test but -ve in western blot test. How much accurate are WB test as if ELISA test can have false +ve test then how can some some say that WB test are accurate if come with -ve result.
Avatar f tn - Western Blot Test is Negative. My doc said that P24 is shown on the band if you are positive and can be detect person's who are infected at or later 10 days and the later P17 ,P17 Gp41 etc in later day's "Please comment in Details".
Avatar n tn They tested with a Western Blot after, and that was negative. Is it possible for a Western blot to be inaccurate?
Avatar n tn Well, turns out I took a look at my charts and the ELISA results are documented as follows: "Positive, Index >1.1-3.0 (Presumptive Infection)" While my Western Blot states: "Negative for antibody to HSV-1 and HSV-2 by Western Blot. No evidence of past infection with HSV-1 of HSV-2." I talked to a nurse from the STD Clinic today who suggested that to be absolutely sure, I might think about taking the Western Blot test again in 6-9 months. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn If the test is positive then the western blot is done automatically. This is the standard testing for lyme that most non-lyme specialists order. I just wonder how much it costs if the test is negative and no further testing is done. It should be a lot less. The ELISA is not very reliable and misses a large percentage of lyme cases. #2 is the western blot in itself. I think this is what it means but I'm not sure.
Avatar m tn So you guys are telling me that 2 negative Western Blot's mean absolutely nothing without the Elisa? How come if someone has a positive Elisa and a negative Western Blot then it's negative? That obviously means Western Blot is stronger than the Elisa. Sorry if I'm coming out annoying but my question still isn't answered.
Avatar f tn An indeterminate is neither a negative or positive. Testing is done by two ELISA and a Western Blot. If the two ELISA tests are positive.
Avatar m tn western blot is suppose to be used to confirm hiv infection after an elisa test or rapid test then they usually test on the elisa one more time to make sure it wasnt a false positive if positive then they confirm with the wb
5871250 tn?1377708161 Why would you get a positive elisa but negative western blot this meansy elsia was false positive so what can cause false positive a flu a cold is it just non specific? Have i got a disease or is it a toss of a coin can someone answer this i dont want any links just an straight fwd answer my doctor says results are non specific.
Avatar n tn If you had a positive test you would have been given a Western Blot or a comparison test to confirm it.
Avatar n tn From all Ive read here, most people get indeterminates on the Western Blot, not the Elisa. Weird? Anyway, his Western Blot was negative, as was his viral load test. Based on his symptoms...fatigue lasting approx 4 weeks, and his location, his drs have decided to treat him for Lyme disease, and do more testing...something about trying to find the exact strand of HIV(if he is pos). His drs say that he is 99% HIV negative, but I need to be 100% sure to continue.
Avatar n tn The rapid test came back as negative on the day and 2 weeks later the ELISA test came back as positive and the western blot test is indeterminate with a single band presented given a moderate reactivity to p24. I was shocked and scared. The doctor took another sample on the day he gave me the result. Now at 4 weeks after the unprotected sex, I had a Negative Rapid test and still waiting for result of the ELISA test.
Avatar m tn A positive ELISA test is always followed by a Western blot test. A positive Western blot confirms an HIV infection. A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured.
Avatar f tn Is a negative test elisa or western blot after 13 weeks after unprotected vaginal sex conclusive?
