Avatar n tn Is it possible to detect false -ve result in western blot test after performing ELISA test, what is the condition of person who has come with +ve ELISA test but -ve in western blot test. How much accurate are WB test as if ELISA test can have false +ve test then how can some some say that WB test are accurate if come with -ve result.
Avatar n tn I took an Elisa test and it was positive and I took a Western Blot test and it was negative. The syphilis test was negative. So I am taking another Elisa, Western Blot and PCR test. What are my chances of these tests being positive???
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week. Is it possible that I have contacted Hiv? If so, how? I used a condom and it didn't break. I also cannot have Hiv from previus relationships because I tested Hiv negative 9 months ago.
Avatar m tn So you guys are telling me that 2 negative Western Blot's mean absolutely nothing without the Elisa? How come if someone has a positive Elisa and a negative Western Blot then it's negative? That obviously means Western Blot is stronger than the Elisa. Sorry if I'm coming out annoying but my question still isn't answered.
Avatar m tn western blot is suppose to be used to confirm hiv infection after an elisa test or rapid test then they usually test on the elisa one more time to make sure it wasnt a false positive if positive then they confirm with the wb
Avatar m tn It's an ELISA test.
Avatar m tn I have been reading online and have read where some people say there is no difference between the test buts ome say the western blot can pick up positives that the Elisa missed. Further research says the Elisa is looking for 1 peptide that is carrying ant-bodies for HSV2 if you should have it but the western blot is looking at 14 peptides for HSV infection. So my question is does anybody know how many of the 14 peptides in the western blot test could actually help pick up infection ?
Avatar f tn 6 weeks after the last encounter I had an Elisa and a Western blot. The Elisa was reactive, the Western Blot came back indeterminate. The lab person told my provider he didn't think I was positive, but would need to retest in a month. He told my provider it happens sometimes with women who have had kids. Yesterday (4 weeks later at 10 weeks since last encounter) I went to a testing center where I could have anonymous testing done.
Avatar m tn In my laboratory the HerpeSelect ELISA tends to be more accurate than the Western blot. This is not the same test as the Univesity of Washington Western Blot. I had originally thought your Western Blot was from UW but that appears not to be the case. I would revise my assessment to say (again) that your HSV-2 results may be falsely positve. Further, you may or may not have HSV-1.
Avatar n tn If you test too early after infection, the screening ELISA test that you had done could pick up early infection where the western blot did not. I would advise that before taking the western blot, you wait at least 4 months for an accurate test. If you are negative by western blot for both, and you have waited 4 months and your first ELISA value was between 1.1 and 3.5, then I would consider the western blot the accurate result here.
Avatar m tn I had a HIV 1 proviral DNA test with PCR method at 11,5 days; it was negative. Then I had ELISA & Western blot tests at 6,5 weeks; both were negative too. Should I consider myself as negative or should I need tow wait 12 weeks for another ELISA for confirmation?
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week. Is it possible that I have contacted Hiv? Avatar m tn ve had 3 negative ICMA tests, and one negative Elisa test but my doctor incorrectly ordered a western blot for me to which I had the p24 band present and one other band equivocal. He said we had to retest in 4-6 weeks. After the western blot I went to a different doctor who is a friend and ordered me an Elisa. That was nonreactive. However, because the first doctor is my primary physician, I had to retest.
Avatar m tn A test at 3 months is conclusive.
Avatar m tn Western Blot is a confirmation test, done once ELISA antibody test comes positive. WB is not a primary screening test.
Avatar n tn They just had their blood work done, and the guy who is supposed to be the bio dad (his sperm will be used to impregnate me) got an indeterminate result on the Elisa test. From all Ive read here, most people get indeterminates on the Western Blot, not the Elisa. Weird? Anyway, his Western Blot was negative, as was his viral load test. Based on his symptoms...fatigue lasting approx 4 weeks, and his location, his drs have decided to treat him for Lyme disease, and do more testing...
Avatar m tn I wanted to follow up and see if these new test results would give me any reason to not follow up with a western blot. I would think if I haven't seroconverted by now I never will (is that possible?). Another quick question. A doctor I had 10+ years ago may have put me on an antiviral medication (could have been valtrax). Is there any reason something like that would prevent serocoversion?
5871250 tn?1377708161 Ok listen my infectious diseases consultant orderd me a lyme blood test im in the UK what they do here is if the ELISA test comes positive they carry out a WESTERN BLOT now after speaking to the guys at the bloodtest unit he kinda gave it away that a westernblot was carried out so this means that the elisa came positive right?
Avatar m tn Hi all, how long does it take to run a western blot test. ( running time of western blot test) can it be done in few hours or it takes a day..?
Avatar f tn To balance the controversy of PCR test and the lengthy time people have to go through to get ELISA/Rapid + Western Blot test, many believe that it's worth to get HIV DUO test (HIV 1 and 2 antibodies + p24 antigen test), because you can get tested as early as 1 month post-possible exposure.
Avatar n tn My lab report only mentioned Western Blot ans negative. There was no mention of the ELISA test. My question is was an ELISA test done and then it was confirmed with a Western Blot test - or was the only test performed the Westerm Blot since this is the only test that showed up on my lab results. From what I have read, a Western Blot test will not be performed unless there is a positive ELISA test. This has me concerned as Western Blot is the only test on the report.
Avatar n tn Frascino Hi, The recommended test for HIV screening is an HIV-antibody test (ELISA, EIA, rapid test, etc.). The Western Blot is a confirmatory test that should only be run to confirm a reactive (positive) screening test! That said, your negative result is definitive and yes, HIV-screening tests and Western Blots would be accurate 17 years after an exposure. You can read much more about HIV diagnostic tests in the archives of this forum. Check it out! Dr.
Avatar m tn A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done. Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.
Avatar f tn Are elisa and western bot test done at the same time? Or do you need a positive elisa than get retested using the western bot?
Avatar m tn Can you give me an idea if I should be worried? Does a + ELISA usually predetermine a + western blot? And does my rash sound like ars?
