I have been a big drinker since my undergraduate days. I know that you don't have the same history, but I still believe that I have some insight into the problem. I didn't standout in the crowd as having a problem in those days, but not many did. I was also a bit depressed, and drinking allowed me to overcome my feelings at parties. I can't say exactly when my depression began, but it was near the end of high school.

I would try getting off the alcohol first and see what happens to your anxiety once you are completely and totally sober for many months. For me, my anxiety began with drug use. After halting the drug use...HALTING the drug use completely...my anxiety has been GREATLY reduced. I have hardly any anxiety left. I fear going on meds as well. I am very active and in shape, this also helps a lot. In conclusion, I would try to get off the alcohol COMPLETELY as soon as possible.

Hello. Does anyone in this group take Paxil and crave alcohol? I do and never did before....I told my Dr. and he said Paxil doesn't cause alcohol cravings. He also wants to keep me on Paxil..I just want off it..

One drink is like two, two is like four, etc. I find that even with one glass of wine, I get very depressed also. It also gives me a depressed feeling for day or two after. It's not worth it!

This is a simple one, you need to stop the drinking. That's really the BEST option here. IN the VERY least, you're going to need to cut WAY back. maybe try half a beer and see what it does....you probably won't feel so hot...I used to take celexa and anytime I drank on it, it made my brain spin in not a good way....got really upset, out of control, really dizzy...and not in the fun way either...I would worry more about the mix of the zoloft with the alcohol more than the klonopin. Your brian cannot process the alcohol in the usual way when you are on anti-depressants.

I was not informed about drinking on K at the time and anxiety from Alcohol, I was new to drinking. I went to the DR and he put me on Paxil. The first days were rough but then I remember I felt great, better than great like superman great. I would have a panic attack try and sneak up on me and it was like a guard would stop it from progressing. thanks cathy, I would consider AA except its primarily the anxiety thats the problem and the alcohol only adds to it, I guess you can say im a functioning alcoholic when I give in to it, but when Im strong and can handle the anxiety I dont touch it at all, so Im addicted when it comes to calming my nerves but I dont feel 100% dependent upon it, there are many days I push myself not to touch it and I succeed...Im really only working on getting rid of the anxiety...

You can't drink heavily on any medication. All medications are liver toxic to some extent, and so is alcohol, and with antidepressants you're now fooling with the brain. Have a drink, and stop there. Just the way it is.

By the way, smoking decreases taste and also causes a certain amount of dry mouth, and alcohol is dehydrating to an extent as well, but not suggesting either is the cause, just that they can contribute. Also not advocating tee-totaling, if alcohol doesn't raise anxiety it is healthier to drink some than not at all, but so it goes.
