Paxil long term use

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil long term use

paxil

Avatar n tn There is a diversity of opinion on this, but it isn't confined to Paxil -- it includes all drugs that affect the brain. In fact, it includes virtually all drugs period. No long-term studies are done before FDA approves a drug, so we only find out the long-term effects as we use them -- we're the guinea pigs.
Avatar n tn While my pain is not nearly as severe as it was before, I now have much more fatigue, lack of range-of-motion, lack of coordination, and have gained quite a lot of weight. Can long-term Paxil use cause any of these things, and, if so, what other treatment options are out there for the physical symptoms of PTSD? ( I have already been through a couple of years of counseling for it.
Avatar f tn My doctor hates Benzodiazepines because of th potential liver disease with long term use. I don't drink so I think i am fairly safe. i know people taking up to 12 mg's for seizures.
Avatar m tn I did try what you suggest, but had no success. My doctors are in a practice connected with a medical school, but claimed not to be able to find anyone. Calls to medical schools in the area went unheeded. I did get a reference from my primary care physician through a professor, but the psychiatrist he sent me to couldn't help -- had no expertise in the area after saying he did. He did give me the most thorough diagnosis and listening I've ever had!
Avatar f tn There are no warnings about long term use, and it is considered safe by the fda. That's the current state of knowledge.
Avatar m tn Long term cognitive problems with paxil? Any recent news or personal experiences regarding long term use..loss of memory, etc.
1038916 tn?1264060250 From a Physiological point of view, is there negative long term effects from using SSRI's. ie: Is there any lasting long term changes to my reseptors and gland etc. I am using Escitalopram 10mg and have been for over a year.
Avatar f tn Being as though I was on Klonopin for almost 10 yrs (tapered off w/no problems) I dont think I will have issues with the Xanax yet all I read is such bad things about long term use. Should I possibly speak to the dr about switching back to Klonopin? Is one benzo safer than another? Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I took the klonopin as needed even though it is mostly used for long term. I know that the drowsiness does go away and as I stated, it can be used for long term, however you definitely become dependent and need to be weaned off. Also, has your doctor said anything about buspar??? Now I take Paxil and buspar (2x a day) and Klonopin when needed (which is hardly never). I weaned off the depakote after one year.
Avatar n tn And getting OFF Xanax is very difficult. Klonopin, on the other hand is designed for long term use and is quite easy to w/d from when the time comes. It is also just as or even more effective than Xanax. Please speak with your doctor about switching from Xanax to Klonopin, but do NOT stop the Xanax abruptly!!!!!!! You and your doctor should discuss a cross over plan to replace the Xanax with the Klonopin.
Avatar f tn First of all, I don't think Zoloft is approved for use in pregnancy either. Second, how quickly did you quit using Paxil? Switching to Zoloft won't help the withdrawal from Paxil, which is one of the most difficult medications to stop taking particularly after that long. It needs to be done very slowly -- after that long it might take months and months.
Avatar f tn Well, antidepressants are safer long-term, although I wouldn't say that about Paxil, one of the most difficult of them all to take and to stop taking. Benzos are addictive if taken regularly and also very hard to stop taking. But you get to choose. I would just use a psychiatrist to do my choosing, not a regular doc, and I'd give therapy a good shot to see if I could do this without medication.
Avatar m tn either for a short term course of therapy (3 months or less)...or more long term. Long term benzo use always comes with some "cons", so all of that will need to be discussed with your doc. I really hope you get some relief soon. Please update us!
Avatar n tn I believe this is related to the long term Xanax use. I am also worried about dementia. My mother has suffered from dementia/alzheimers for years. What is the outlook for me? Sometimes I just don't think I can go on. Some days are worse than others. Am not married, needless to say, and have no siblings and have a son who has an addiction problem as well. He has been in and out of jail so many times I have lost count. I could go on and on.
Avatar n tn It may also be a sign of depression breaking through. When you use Paxil alone, rather than Paxil and psychotherapy, you suppress the depression but do not deal with the source of the depression. You can either ask your doctor about increasing the dose or look into some counseling.
Avatar f tn But if you have long-term anxiety, like GAD, you may want to look into an every day medication like an SSRI.
