Avatar m tn The use of the antipsychotic medication Seroquel has been linked to an increased risk of diabetes, pancreatitis and death. Thousands of Seroquel lawsuits have been filed throughout the United States by individuals who suffered severe and life threatening injuries.
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. It's unlikely that pancreatitis results in acute liver failure/necrosis (ALN)- while pancreatitis can result in ELEVATED liver function tests (LFTs), it shouldn't cause failure. Cause for ALN include blue-green algae exposure (in stagnant ponds), sago palm ingestion, xylitol sugar-free gum, a few medications, etc. Sometimes end-stage liver disease (cirrhosis) can also cause acute liver failure also.
Avatar f tn These things always tend to happen over holidays when dogs are either fed things that are outside their normal diet or help themselves by counter- and table-surfing. Our vet tells us that he can count on several cases of pancreatitis after every holiday - usually the ones in the summer months that involve barbecued meat with bones. As with our dog Travis, just one bit of extra fat can be lethal.
Avatar f tn This test has a higher chance of causing pancreatitis than it does of causing death. The worry should be the pancreatic complications.
Avatar m tn The reason we recommend removal of the gallbladder in patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease is because they have a 1 in 3 chance of developing a significant complication such as acute cholecystitis, pancreatitis, cholangitis, etc. The risk of death when we are forced to deal with folks in the face of one of these complications rises 100 fold. So, you can opt for elective gallbladder removal. Regards.

Avatar f tn t have like old food, plants, some type of poison? It may have been a pancreatitis problem. The only way to try to find out is to seek the help of your Vet.
Avatar n tnPancreatitis - also known as inflammation of the pancreas, can cause amylase and lipase levels to be increased up to 3 times normal. Both values should be increased, in order to carry the diagnosis of pancreatitis. •Lipase may be increased in tumors of the pancreas, or stomach certain stomach conditions. These conditions are usually painful. •Gall bladder infection - Inflammation of the gall bladder (cholecystitis), may cause increased lipase levels (hyperlipasemia).
Avatar n tn (That is, the pancreas is close to the gallbladder and can itself cause complications of pancreatitis, but there are many causes of pancreatitis). http://emedicine.medscape.
Avatar n tn 2 weeks later was diagnosed with Evans Syndrome. She hospitalized. Showed signs of Vastibular, pancreatitis. She passed away yesterday. Prior to the vaccine a happy pup. Running and playing?
Avatar f tn re headed to an acute bout of pancreatitis and trust me, you do not want that to happen. Pancreatitis often turns into the gift that keeps on giving and becomes a horribly painful, chronic condition. Alcohol abuse is a common cause of pancreatitis and any doctor will tell you that alcohol has to go out of your life forever or you risk another acute attack. Alcohlic hepatitis is another condition high on the list of suspects.
Avatar m tn A very good friend of mine, his wife just got out of the hospital about 2 months ago due to Pancreatitis because of alcohol. Well I/we know she has a drinking problem, she has started drinking again. She said she researched and drinking Red Wine does not hurt her Pancreatitis. In my feeble attempts of research I have not found anything that supports her thought process.
Avatar n tn You did absolutely the right thing for your dog. I had to do the same thing for mine years ago. Pancreatitis is one horrific illness to deal with whether in humans or dogs. It is extremely painful, and there is no way of knowing if expensive supportive treatment and abdominal rest will result in recovery. Most of the time, euthanasia is the best and only option.
1166735 tn?1263475353 t really categorize your condition as type 1, 2 or 3 without that ERCP with manometry test. Yes, the test does carry with it the risk of pancreatitis, but these days that risk can be lessened somewhat by the use of stenting or botox. If the condition can't be controlled with either anti-spasm meds or specific calcium channel blocking medication, it would be advisable to have the ERCP done. But make sure the doc doing the test is capable of doing the manometry portion of the test.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the forum. I'm happy to help. I understand your concern, given that your partner has HIV. However, you really need not be worried. These events were exceedingly low risk, if there was any risk at all; most likely there was truly no risk. Do you know anything more about your partner's HIV infection? When was it diagnosed? Is he on treatment for HIV? If on treatment, do you know how well controlled his infection is? If he is on treatment and has a low viral load (i.e.
Avatar f tn Abdominal swelling is a common symptom of pancreatitis in dogs. The fact that your vet did not keep her concerns me a bit, because the normal treatment for pancreatitis is for them to eat NOTHING AT ALL for the first five days to give the pancreas a chance to heal. Food (a special diet containing almost no fat) can then slowly be reintroduced. I am not trying to make you feel bad, but if you feed her people food while she has pancreatitis you COULD kill her!
Avatar n tn Since all your lab works and imaging studies are otherwise normal and you never had any bout of pancreatitis before, a wait and watch policy is likely to be the best course of action for you. Also, the risk of surgery to pancreas is high, so since the side branch lesions are usually harmless, a wait and watch policy is adopted for most lesions less than 3 cm which do not cause dilatation of the main pancreatic duct nor have a solid mass or nodule within them.
Avatar f tn (You need to be admitted to a detox facility and get some treatment for your problem.....or else you do run the risk of ending up dead from this!do you have any children?
Avatar f tn However, other mechanical factors may cause acute pancreatitis due to obstruction of the pancreatic duct and ischemia of the pancreas. We describe the first case of a parastomal hernia causing acute pancreatitis." There is information on the web if you place the question in your search engine.
140029 tn?1393298142 t it better and less risky to just test for a sphincter of Oddi manometry instead? Less risk for pancreatitis? (which I might be suffering this whole time from I can't tell..). My pain on the right side is there now..and recently these last few months is getting worse. I have a bad hunch I have SOD and i'm trying to find a doctor in salt lake city who will do the procedure since my GI (semi-new doctor) won't do it. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi, Scars and calcification in the pancreas are features of chronic pancreatitis. In this condition, the secretion of enzymes and hormones from the pancreas gets affected and this effect depends on how much of the pancreas is affected. There will poor absorption of the nutrients resulting in weightloss and nutritional problems. It may cause diabetes mellitus. It is also a risk factor for pancreatic cancer though the risk is not 100%.
Avatar n tn Pancreatitis according to my ER Vet is one of the most painful things a dog can have. It is the equivalent of having a bunch of broken bones. My late dog Leeo had Pancreatic Neucrosis which was misdiagnosed as something else. By the time he was severe I took him to the ER Hospital. Not saying your dog has the same thing .... but my dog had Pancreatic Neucrosis ... the worst . His pancreas was dying and eating itself and his internal surrounding organs.
Avatar f tn I believe there are some reports of pancreatits when using this medication, however, if you only took them a half hour before being taken to the hospital, I don't believe the med could be the cause of the issue. You may want to consider looking for other causes.
Avatar n tn I recently was hospitalized for acute pancreatitis. An ultrasound was done of my gallbladder and it was normal as was the CT scan of my pancreas. My doctor still thinks I have gallbladder disease and ordered a HITA scan done. I have no symptoms of gallbladder problems, but the scan from what I could see and from comments by the technician indicated almost no contraction, a large gallbladder, and from what I could see no emptying of the gallbladder.
