972306 tn?1247846608 Treatment In all patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy risk stratification is essential to attempt to ascertain which patients are at risk for sudden cardiac death.[2][5] In those patients deemed to be at high risk the benefits and infrequent complications of defibrillator therapy are discussed; devices have been implanted in as many as 15% of patients at HCM centers.
5106112 tn?1363683091 While early prophylaxis in surgical patients with low-molecular-weight-heparin has been associated with significant reductions in postoperative venous thrombosis, it is important that ACCP Recommendations are also checked with regards to the risk stratification levels. For patients following total knee replacement, administering pharmacological and mechanical methods are often indicated based on the recommendations.
Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?

Avatar n tn Quix has a great reflexes post, but essentially, there is a stratification of reflexes into categories that run from no reflex (that's pathological) to hyperrflexia (which at the other end of the spectrum is pathological). Really experienced neuros allegedly get these partly subjective assessments correct. A +2 or +3 is considered normal, but a +4 or +5 (if they use a 5-point scale) is pathological (brisk, hyper).
Avatar m tn Any time a dog is fed human food there is the risk of them developing pancreatitis, and even one meal can be enough to cause it. Keep in mind that human food is much higher in fat than foods designed for dogs, and dogs cannot process those fats. Pancreatitis is EXTREMELY painful, and if that is what is causing her problems, that's why she is shaking.
Avatar n tn (That is, the pancreas is close to the gallbladder and can itself cause complications of pancreatitis, but there are many causes of pancreatitis). http://emedicine.medscape.
Avatar m tn ve posted so far, I think that what you had is a case of acute pancreatitis. The risk for developing pancretic cancer is only true in cases of chronic pancreatitis, not acute pancreatitis. So I don't think you are at an increased risk of developing cancer later on. It takes some time (several months) for the pancreas to recover, and for the lipase and amylase levels to return to normal, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Avatar f tn re headed to an acute bout of pancreatitis and trust me, you do not want that to happen. Pancreatitis often turns into the gift that keeps on giving and becomes a horribly painful, chronic condition. Alcohol abuse is a common cause of pancreatitis and any doctor will tell you that alcohol has to go out of your life forever or you risk another acute attack. Alcohlic hepatitis is another condition high on the list of suspects.
1481080 tn?1287590520 i will tell you this my specialist is 2 hours away and its worth it they keep putting you at risk for repeats of pancreatitis which is very dangerous .
Avatar n tn •Extremely overweight (obese) •Have high triglyceride levels in your blood •Drink too much alcohol •Have been diagnosed with gall bladder stones (which may block the flow of secretions from the pancreas to the intestines) •Or have a family history of pancreatitis. So hopefully it's something really simple for you like alchohol or.. gallstones..follow up with a doctor and he'll probably send you to a GI specialist if it doesn't go away.
1831849 tn?1383228392 Just read it - I had to look up viremia though, lol But, for those who read it, they speak about JC viremia positive ...viremia is is condition where virus enter the bloodstream. Kyle - After reading this, I felt it doesn't seem it's anything new/different than what is practiced and recommended now...do you? Meaning they do repeat testing (but are they suggesting from below more broad viremia? Perhaps I'm not understanding the meaning of it)...
Avatar m tn t know what impact having lost a kidney will have, but the risks of heavy alcohol consumption including increased risk of cancer, pancreatitis (which can be fatal), cirrhosis, heart attack, and stroke, to name some. No one can tell you IF any of those things will ever happen to you, or when they would if they do. Some people never experience these problems, and others do after only a few years of heavy drinking.
Avatar f tn From what you describe, it sounds like this is a case of chronic pancreatitis. You are definitely at risk of getting a bowel obstruction again which could shorten your life expectancy.
1453931 tn?1285185353 I had a bile leak and when they preformed a ERCP I got acute pancreatitis. It is a risk associated with the ERCP. Anyway after my amylase and lipase went down to normal I was checked out of the hospital. However since then I have had horrible nocturnal abdominal pain and it also happens when on an empty stomach longer than 4 hours.
Avatar f tn There is a risk of pancreatitis after surgery and most doctors will insert a stent into the duct to lower this risk. The stent should pass on its own in 2 weeks but you need to have an xray to be sure. If it does not pass they can remove it Did the dr measure your pressure in the ducts during ercp? If it is high they usually cut it. This procedure helps some with sphincter of oddi and others it does not. It is a hard disease to manage.
Avatar f tn It must be noted that manometry of the sphincter is a very specialized procedure that should only be performed by expert endoscopists because it can increase the risk of pancreatitis. In addition to this risk, sphincterotomy for SOD can also sometimes result in perforation of the bowel.
