Pancreatitis and heartburn

Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and heartburn

Avatar n tn I have had chronic gastritis or pancreatitis or gall bladder or whatever for many years (not sure which). My pain was originally directly in my stomach (not "heartburn" up high, and not in the bowels, but right smack in the stomach). It feels as if my stomach is eating itself. Now I am finding my pain radiating into both shoulder blades, and sometimes RUQ. It comes in waves, sometimes so severe I am doubled over for 2 or 3 minutes, and sometimes just chronically nagging at me.
Avatar n tn I'm really worried because I did some research and I read the most common causes for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency are cystic fibrosis (which i dont have) and chronic pancreatitis, and, if you have CP that its not curable and there is a severe lower life expectancy associated with it. Is this all true and does it sound as if I have this?
Avatar f tn Hello, A detailed medical evaluation is necessary for exact diagnosis and treatment of your condition. Recurrent heartburn can be due to hiatal hernia. In this condition the top part of the stomach sticks up into the chest cavity. This weakens the LES and makes it easier for acid to back up from the stomach into the esophagus. It can be diagnosed by barium swallow and ph monitoring. Other possibility is that you are suffering from GERD.
Avatar n tn 1) Severe heartburn and indigestion anytime I eat. I have taken antacids for months, however in the last two weeks, nothing subsides it. Will last for hours. especially bad in the evening. If I eat anything fried, I'm miserable. 2) Stabbing feeling on upper left side of back right above bra strap line. I have had this for 6-8 months 3) The last two weeks, my stools are clay colored and are floaters. 4) My whole abdomen region is 'nervous' feeling.
Avatar n tn if you work your cardio more you will have a reason for your heart to be pounding fast, and you wont be scared. the less acidy foods, eat right and you will feel better more of the time, i know that this may not eliminate all but it will make a difference.
Avatar n tn I was hospitalized for 2 weeks with a diagnosis of acute viral syndrome, leading to ileus and pancreatitis. After the NG tube was removed, I began coughing violently, bringing up a lot of mucous. My primary care dr. said it was allergic post nasal drip. The antihistamine he gave me did not help, so I went to an ENT, who said my throat was being irritated by stomach acid. I have lost 25 lbs. and am still coughing and bringing up mucous.
1143850 tn?1413216148 I also keep getting stabbing pain in back and side on left side under ribs that lasts only about a second but some days comes frequently. Sometimes I feel clogged up all way to my throat and feel like I need to burp, i get heartburn when bad too. Has ibs since I was a child and I'm generally quite constipated. I have been a heavy drinker for about 8 years, probably having at least a bottle of wine most nights but have completely given it up lately as it seems worse the day after drinking.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone, I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago and for about two weeks now I have a lot of saliva with bitter taste in my mouth and lots of heartburn. Doc put me on protonix (40 mg) - did not get rid of the taste in mouth - decreased some of the heartburn. He switched me to Nexium - same result. Question: Is it normal to have "heartburn w. possible reflux after gallbladder surgery. I never had the problem before!!!
Avatar f tn 5 years ago, I was having horrible pains I thought were heartburn. When I had to be taken to the ER, we found out I had acute pancreatitis due to passing a gallstone. Ended up having my stonefilled gallbladder removed. I've been doing okay since. However, my cysts have been bothering me the past few days, and they were pretty bad last night. I took a Tyleonl 3 and went to bed. I woke up about 3 hours later with the same horrific pain I had with the gallbladder problems.
Avatar f tn It started with feeling nauseas half way through and continuing after every meal. Then I got a severe heartburn attack, I did not know that was what it was I had never had it before. Then about 2 weeks later I woke up with intense pain in my upper right flank and every time I ate the pain got worse. I went to the hospital and it turns out that I had acute pacreatitis.
701334 tn?1262857103 what about GERD,,,,or somthing similar? i DO get reflux sometimes,,,,and do get heartburn sometimes. i realy would like to know what the heck this is,,,,im still kicking, but this is very anoying sometimes.
Avatar f tn Yep, heartburn can be from pregnancy.. In the last 3 days it's just hit me and today I'm 10 weeks!
Avatar f tn Also, I have had acid reflux since I was a child and that was related to eating improper foods. But, now I experience severe acid reflux/heartburn/indigestion if I go off of the Nexium and I am eating well. So, I know I cannot stop taking Nexium. I am concerned about what's causing the unexplained nausea. I told my pain clinic physician about this and they ruled out that the pain patch isn't causing this because it hadn't bothered me in the past.
Avatar n tn 1) Is it possible that the PPIs were the cause of my heartburn and chest pain? i've read that too little stomach acid can cause these symptoms 2) are there any other GI tests i should have done to help determine if my upper left chest pain is GI Related? 3) given my young age, should i bother to check whether or not the chest pain might be due to something heart related? 4) most importantly right now, should i have my gallbladder removed?
Avatar n tn appendicitis, bowel obstruction, cholecystitis or inflammation of the gallbladder, chronic constipation, diverticular disease, excessive gas, food allergy, food poisoning, gastroesophageal reflux, heartburn or indigestion, hernia, kidney stones, pancreatitis, parasitic infections, ulcers, urinary tract infections or viral gastroenteritis. Sometimes, abdominal pain may also be caused by muscle strain or from any organ in the chest, like the lungs or the heart.
Avatar m tn You know that prickly feeling you get when your foot starts "waking up" after it "falls asleep"? I get a feeling like that on my mid-back, going from my left side to slightly in the right. This happens about 2 hours after I eat. Could it be my pancreas? Here's some history: I have been diagnosed with gallbladder dyskinesia and have a probable gastroparesis diagnosis waiting for me tomorrow (had a gastric emptying exam done last week which didn't look all that great).
Avatar n tn You should also ask the physician if other diseases of the small intestine or colon could be causing the symptoms. Finally, you should ask about the prossibilities of pancreatitis and retained stones. Depending on which conditions are thought to be of high probability, different tests will be ordered. Avatar f tn It feels like someone is stabbing me with a sword . I have heartburn, bloating, constipation (hard small pellets), and nausea. The pain seems to get worse at night, but is not completely relived by sitting up. Sometimes it wakes me up in the middle of the night. I have had pain in the center of my abdomen (where my belly button is located). I have been prescribed magnesium oxide, miralax, tramadol, and, omerzapole. Nothing relieves the pain.
Avatar n tn During the past 12 months she has been under a considerable amount of continous stress and began to experience unpleasant symptoms including free floating anxiety and feelings of panic. On visiting her family doctor she was prescribed the antdepressant Lustral, which is a SSRI type drug. From the begining she described many unpleasant side effects, including diahrreah, nausia, balance peoblems, jaw clenching, ticks etc. May of thse side effects are well documented.
Avatar m tn I've been monitoring my urine, stool, Heartburn intensity, fever, heart rate, and blood pressure, and all are within normal metabolic lines, the exception being my triglycerides (250, which would explain the flare ups in thr gallbladder). Has anyone else here experienced these muscle spasms post-work out? I feel I may have a Haital hernia as well because in my weightlifting days I lifted extremely heavy 400lb bench press, 600lb hack squat, 500lbs dead lift.
1384238 tn?1286032362 Anyway, anybody got any input of the validity of what doc says. Still get jaw pain, heartburn and chest pain with all this. He thinks my hiatal hernia cld also be the culprit. What do you all think?
96108 tn?1197694930 The pain at night I am almost positive is due to stomach acid and simple heartburn, and my stomach is small so the pain radiates to my back as well. I have helped my symptoms by avoiding fats, caffein, sugar in any form, and alcohol. These foods I find, trigger stomach acid release. I make sure to eat regular meals. I had a lower examination (I forget the word) colonoscopy and also endoscopy and it did reassure me that my insides were ok. I am willing to say it is hormones and diet.
Avatar m tn I still drink beer on the weekends and take nexium to control heartburn. Could my liver be out of whack and it not show up at all during a hida scan or all of the blood tests they did?
Avatar n tn To make matters worse my HMO won't let me go to any places where there are specialized programs and groups of GI doctors. I need some direction and help on what this is and how to treat it. It is getting so hard.
5882236 tn?1377621424 This time I am notice a lot of upper back pain that is going along with the heartburn. I went to the Dr. today and he assured me that Upper Back Pain is not uncommon with GERD, Dr. did a blood test to check my Pancreas and results showed Lipase level was slightly elevated. Dr. said there might be some irritation in the Pancreas and that could be causing the back pain. My question is - Has anyone experienced Back Pain with GERD? and Do you have problems sleeping because of this?
Avatar n tn I have chronic heartburn, but not severe, rarely wakes me at night, but have been awakened from aspirating acid and not being able to breath (very scary) thankfully this is very rare (1 or 2 times in the last 3 years). I have had an upper GI series and am awaiting the results about possible hiatal hernia. However, my question is, What is the connection between acid reflux and PVC's. I've asked my doctor this question a couple of times with no details of why.
760260 tn?1238086789 08 Even though I relapsed, I have no further stomache probs at present and have gained all of my weight back. I believe, that my stomache pain nausea and heartburn, were related to the Hcv I believe, even though I didn't SVR the tx helped in that aspect. My GP didn't believe the HCV had anything to do with it.

Avatar n tn If it gets worse during deep intake of breath, radiates to back or below the right shoulder blade, is worse after eating or drinking fatty foods or fluids, has fever, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, chills and shaking and chest pain under the breastbone, have doc get blood chem 20, and also check for levels for Lipase, Amylase, and have a urine test.
Avatar n tn They ran blood tests and gave me a shot for the pain, which helped. The test came back with elevated SGOT and SGPT levels, they sent me home and told me to see my dr asap. I went the next day, he told me my levels in the hospital were 215 and 440, he took more blood tests and told me he was sure it was hepatitis. He sent the test out and in a week the test came back negative, but the levels went up alittle higher, 250 and 470.
