pancreatitis

Avatar n tn however, patients with alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis who continue to drink have increased mortality. Treatment for chronic pancreatitis primarily involves pain control - although it is sometimes stated that chronic pancreatitis "burns out" over time, the duration of time over which this may occur is highly variable, if it occurs at all. If medications aren't doing the job, then more specialized treatment may be considered.
Avatar m tn Today I saw my doctor who was quite refreshed from rest at home. He recommended two treatment options, one is injection once a week and the other is baraclude by mouth once daily. Because the former has side effects that may cause me (the bread earner of my family) to stop working, I immediately chose the latter, which costs $2200 per 90 days. Would appreciate your sharing your experience if you have used baraclude before. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Other possible options would include endoscopic therapy to relieve any blocked ducts or octrotide therapy (currently experimental). It is difficult to speculate on what the treatment options are before the diagnostic tests are performed. Followup with your personal physician is essential. 1453931 tn?1285188953 It is really frustrating not knowing the cause of the disease is and majority of the treatment options do not apply to me yet. I am scared because I was told that sooner or later the pancreas will not work anymore due to the stricture. So now it's just a waiting game. Have you heard any updates on your health?
902019 tn?1249865014 I was diagnosed 2 years ago with AIP, have a 25 year history of autoimmune disorders (eosinophilic vasculitis, mild Sjogren's). Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?

750120 tn?1252458630 One is to discontinue treatment and the other is to delay treatment until the pancreatitis has cleared up then start again slowly. Blood work they took today will determine the course of action they choose. The pancreatitis is extremely painful but morphine is extremely effective (smiling).
Avatar f tn After two days i was told last night her kidney is at 7, i cant remember what her BUN was or any other number because at that point i was told she now has pancreatitis and her liver is going bad as well. They are releasing her today with me and told me to take her home, make her comfortable at home and she can either pass on her own or i can bring her in after a few days to be put down. I am having a hard time with this whole thing and felt it came on quickly.
793908 tn?1294708709 After several checks a month ago, the determination was made by our vet that his disease had progressed to the point with high blood numbers that there were no other treatment options. Unhappy with this prognosis, I researched Cushings in dogs online and found Supraglan. I give him 1 eyedropper full twice a day with his food. He eats fine and is doing well.
Avatar f tn We are seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist and are in the midst of a bunch of tests on much of her entilre body but I want to make sure she gets the best treatment initially once a treatment process is started. I would be happy to travel to the best one or have my present doctor consult with one on the cutting edge of knowledge about this blastocystis and how it affects the digestive system and the body.
Avatar n tn I did not feel pain until I went through the Interferon/Ribavarin treatment for 9 months, after the treatment I started feeling pain and I have had the pain for 10 years with no stopage of that pain, as a matter a fact, just recently after another CT Scan was done, the pain increased somewhat.
Avatar n tn I am currently recuperating from an severe attack of acute pancreatitis. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks. What can you tell me about pancreatic pseudocysts? These cysts were found on CT-scan during my second week in the hospital. Can these cysts be left alone and be reabsorbed or do they have to be drained? If the cysts have to be drained, can you tell me about the different ways they can be drained? Also, can you tell me how long it takes to get over a severe attack of pancreatitis?
Avatar m tn Alternatively, maybe you could consult with a herbal or holistic vet, if you can find one near you or within driving distance. It is possible there may be treatment options....
Avatar f tn I also developed pancreatitis approx 1 month after stopping treatment. If anyone has experienced any of this symptoms I would like to hear from you.
Avatar f tn He need to find out his genotype and have a biopsy to ascertain the amount of damage and then discuss treatment options with his doctor. New meds today are having very good success rates and they will be avail .imminently. It certainly is a shocking diagnosis to receive, however you should spend some time reasearching HCV and that usually will help to relieve your fears some. There are many folks on this forum that have been cured or currently doing treatment or waiting to treat.
Avatar n tn Coinfected people and their clinicians must weigh current HCV treatment options against the immediacy of the need for treatment.
Avatar n tn If your wife is having pain, it is appropriate to search for other possible causes for the symptom. Avatar f tn Ajcauff, unfortunately at the current time there are few options for the treatment of SOD. If you had and ERCP with manometry done and the readings were high, then the sphincterotomy was probably the best thing that could have been done. Typically, after this, the area is stented to help prevent pancreatitis, but the whole procedure does not guarantee that the condition might not return.
10805050 tn?1420939120 It is one pill a day and for treatment naive patients your treatment could be as short as 8 weeks. Look around the site and read some posts I am sure you will learn a lot that way. A link was started about what treatment people did and their results an unscientific survey but still interesting here is the link to that post http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn And by all means, every pain patient needs to become knowledgeable in their medical condition and treatment options. Fortunately, the internet is filled with information. Sites like http://www.spineuniverse.com have plenty of information for spine patients like me. There are other sites for people who suffer from other pain syndromes like CRPS, peripheral neuropathy, arachnoiditis, Chron's disease, pancreatitis, or whatever. Find them, joint them, and help keep them strong.
Avatar f tn My dog Dizzy showing signs of Cushings she drinks a lot, is not as frisky as she was, has a hard pot belly and a bald patch on her tail these physical signs and the blood test lead my vet to strongly suspect Cushings and he has suggested a more extreme but definative tests and the on going life long treatment would be lysodren. I have insurance but it only covers up to £500 vet costs including treaments for a year after diagnosis then stops!!
Avatar n tn Despite that in the research I've seen it says only about 20% of patients who undergo the ERCP and sphincterotomy get pancreatitis, the super specialist in SF said in his experience he would say the number is more like 50%. He says if my mom got pancreatitis she would be in the more horrible pain imaginable and that she would "wish she had her old pain back." So hearing that doesn't exactly make he anxious to do it. The past few months have been a roller coaster.
877337 tn?1249848050 Then I was admitted in ER for pancreatitis then they said my levels of Hyperthyroid are went high which needed immediate treatment. Avatar f tn Well, we all know, as we get older, our immune systems weaken, so I began looking into treatment options, once I hit menopause. I think the Hep C made my hot flashes much worse than what is considered normal, etc. It was as if my Internal Thermometer no longer functioned. At my yearly physical, 14 months ago, I noticed that my liver enzymes were 9 times more elevated than they usually were.
Avatar n tn recurrent esophageal cancer, stage IV, completed aggressive radiation/chemo treatment about 7 months ago; current CAT and PET scans were negative for cancer, but a positive biopsy was found (by scope) near esophagectomy site of the cellular level; waiting to undergo another scope with more biopsies; looking for any suggestions to curb the mucus/gagging reflex and daily nausea; have tried Joe Barton's reflux remedy (w/apple cidar vinegar, honey, etc.
Avatar n tn 8 percent at 10 years and 4 percent at 20 years, independent of the type of pancreatitis in one study. I have not touched upon autoimmune pancreatitis and the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pancreatitis. I hope that you can understand that I am limited in the amount of time I spend on each question in this forum. Avatar n tn I don't understand her condition and her doctor does not explain fully what is her going on with her, where can I turn and where can I get help on the best course of treatment for her. My mother does not understand what she has and is very depressed due to this. Please help!
