oxycontin

939983 tn?1262528060 I had been on the oxycodone for five and a half years, and within two days of taking 10mg methadone every four hours and using the oxycodone 15mg now every four hours for breakthrough pain, the methadone is working SO well that I don't even have to take the oxycodone every four hours, and when I do, half a tablet (as opposed to two tablets, which is the dose) is enough to control the breakthrough pain. I never would have believed it, but it is AMAZING!
Avatar n tn They are the same. Roxicodone is just a brand name for oxycodone. The oxycontin is extended release so it helps keep your pain level and then when you have breakthrough pain the instant release oxycodone will hit it hard and fast to get it under control. Only taking the instant release can be bad because you can have a lot of ups and downs, like during sleep it will wear off and you will wake up in a ton of pain and probably in withdrawals, with the ER it will keep you level through the night.
Avatar f tn t understand why she would be against you trying something other than the 30 mg oxycodone for BT pain. The 30 mg oxycodone tabs are the most sought after oxycodone med by addicts and because of that the DEA is closely watching all of the prescriptions for 30 mg oxycodone. I really think that the 10 mg Opana IR would work well for your pain. I don't believe that building up a tolerance to pain meds equals "you just have to deal".
1855076 tn?1337115303 but usually they will move someone to a long acting medication and then have medications like the Percocet or OxyIR for breakthrough pain when a flare hits. So...if your prescription has been to take the full 50mg a day of Oxycodone for more than a few months and you take this every single day...then it seems very appropriate to move to Oxycontin or another ER (extended release) meds. I use MSContin as my ER med and OxyIR 5mg for my breakthrough pain.
Avatar f tn My pain regimen includes the Fentanyl patch which I wear for 48 hours along with oxycodone IR for breakthrough pain. I also take Gabapentin, a muscle relaxer, valium, an anti-depressant, and OTC Aleve. The latter list of medications are known as adjuvant medications which help the opioid medications work more effectively.
4730743 tn?1358469813 2 months, and he currently has me on Verapamil ER 180 MG X1 daily, Nortriptyline 10 MG X1 @ bedtime, also Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325 4X a day for break thru pain, as well as Oxycontin 10 mg ER 2X a day. I have taken all of these meds for the last month, with little sucess of relief. Unfort. I have had to take both of my pain medications everyday the last month. My question is about tolerance.
29837 tn?1414534648 You should consider starting a long acting opioid to cover your baseline pain and then use the 30 mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. This will provide you with more consistent and meaningful relief. Short acting opioids ramp up and hit peak plasma levels within 30 minutes to an hour. Shortly after they peak, they immediately begin clearing the body.
Avatar f tn Have you ever tried Oxycodone HCL (immediate release) 15mg, or 30mg tablets for breakthrough pain? I am on Morphine Sulfate and use the Oxycodone for breakthrough and it works well... until your body adapts to the oxycodone and you require an increase in the dose... that's my only hurdle with it.... good luck....
Avatar f tn I have been on this dose of oxy for over 1 yr and is no longer really helping with break through pain....I have been in pain mngt for about 6 yrs now....what is the next step up...do oxycodone come higher than 15mg...I cannot take any time release meds....help...and thanks..
Avatar m tn This keeps you w/the same medication but gives you that extra boost for times in need. If you only take it for breakthrough pain and have exhausted other alternatives your tolerance will still build, but not as quickly as if you are taking it to get the high feeling.
Avatar f tn s some advice. You should be taking the OxyContin for persistent pain and the Percocet for breakthrough pain. Since OxyContin is a 12 hour extended-release formulation of oxycodone it can probably be reduced to just twice daily initially since there's only 24 hours in one day. Of course Percocet is an immediate release formulation of oxycodone and thus has a shorter half-life than the OxyContin. Detoxification from oxycodone depends on your level of pain and your desire to stop taking it.
Avatar f tn I went to my PMP the 1st ofJanuary, 2012, to get my MSContin and Oxycodone scripts. He gave me a random UA test for MSContin, Oxycodone (for breakthrough pain), and Lyrica. This is the first drug test from him in 2-3 years. I had been taking less of my MSContin and Lyrica because of being in the"donut-hole" of Med.D script plan and , also trying to resolve co-pay of MSContin-generic back down to tier exception lower cost co-pay.
Avatar m tn You could ask your doc to raise your ER meds for smoother pain control or to be able to change your patches to q48 instead of.
4628837 tn?1364557915 I would speak with the doctor about either increasing your dosage, putting you on something stronger and then using the oxycodone for breakthrough pain, or just weaning you off the pain meds altogether and dealing with the pain via other methods, since it's probably easier to use a non-narcotic method of pain management than it is to continually go through withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Right now I am not having a problem getting my pills, although my doctor switched me from the 15mg, of which I was taking 2 tablets every four hours, to the 30mg, so I now just take 1 tablet every 4 hours because my pharmacist said he had a LOT of the 30mg but very few of the 15. So the tablets are not a problem for me at this point.
Avatar f tn She has 80mg oxycontin that she takes twice a day as well as 5mg oxycodone that she takes for breakthrough pain. She hardly ever takes the breakthrough meds and when her doctor changed her oxycontin from 40mg to 80mg she still had most of a months supply. Last year I started taking her breakthrough meds along with my own. I was taking about 60mgs a day of the oxycodone which was all I could take without her running out. My norco ran out and I had a two week wait before I could fill it again.
Avatar n tn I have been taking combination short-acting opioids for over 4 years now and I was just recently switched from percocet to oxycodone IR for breakthrough pain. I think the combination short-acting opioids are not good for chronic pain patients as daily ingestion of tylenol on a long term basis is not recommended.
2107861 tn?1346470646 I have been on pain management for eight years. I was taking 20mg of oxycodone 4x per day and it was not controlling my pain so the doctor added 20mg of oxycontin 2x per day and I have got a lit of relief!!! But my concern is since I have been taking it my stomack cramps real bad I stay nauseous and can't hardly eat does anyone no if this is a side effect? Don't want to call the doctor because my pain is manageable!!!!
Avatar m tn I have never asked for increases or changes through PM and I have a appointment 2morrow and I need 2 know is it a legitamate request to ask for something without apap for the pain, more or less asked for something either by change or stay the same or increase for breakthru pain with small amount APAP and also ask for a extended release pain med no APAP to last me 24 hours.
Avatar f tn He has tried alternative therapies for pain relief (acupuncture, TENS unit, etc) but the oxycodone works the best for this breakthrough pain. So we sat down today to try to figure out what to do.
Avatar f tn I have been on both MsContin (currently taking as long acting medication & oxycodone for breakthrough pain) and fentanyl... both work well... for me (everyone is different) the MsContin works best along side the oxycodone (immediate release). I am a chronic pain patient now for 13 years and I am 32 years old and I believe if you hurting you must consider all your options and go with the one that best manages your pain so that your quality of life improves.
Avatar f tn I do have Oxycodone 5mgs for breakthrough pain. will the Oxycodone help? I am despite for help.
Avatar f tn Oxycodone is a great pain medication. However, it works best for breakthrough pain which is pain that is above your baseline pain level. Typically, a long acting opioid is used for pain relief from your baseline pain levels. If pain breaks through the long acting opioid, oxycodone or some other Immediate Release opioid is used to relieve the breakthrough pain.
Avatar m tn But the cervical area is quite responsive to surgical correction, so it makes me wonder why you are being allowed to persist with chronic pain when surgery could take care of it for you. You would probably still need pain management for the lumbar area, but it would be better than having your WHOLE back and neck hurting you.
574735 tn?1232930123 I have a medical condition which requires me to take 40ml of Oxycontin twice a day, and 10ml of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain every four hours. I am concerned about becoming addicted to this drug. How can I wean myself even though I still need them for pain? Should I just start taking them as needed?
