Oxycodone for pain relief

Common Questions and Answers about Oxycodone for pain relief

oxycontin

Avatar f tn Are you going to need pain relief for along time? Coming off those types of meds are very tough, much tougher than oxys.
Avatar n tn But, I am not sure if you have tried Opana yet or not. You could also continue to use oxycodone for BT pain (just in case) or the fentanyl Actiq lollipops. I also use oxycodone for BT pain; however, since switching from Morphine to Opana as my extended release med, I have only need 1 dose of oxycodone for BT pain versus 3 or 4 doses. I know you can't take ER meds so Opana IR with oxycodone/Actiq for BT might work better for you.
Avatar f tn I have been on Oxycodone 80mgs for about 6 months for chronic pain. I recently had to have emergency surgery for something else and am stuck to a wound VAC. This is the most painful experience I have ever known. My pain doctor added 2 doses of Oxycontin 20 mg each to offset the pain. And told me to come back and reassess in 1 week. I don't feel like the Oxycontin is making much of a difference at all.
706250 tn?1232453817 I recently was dx with MS and have chronic pain in back, neck, down both legs and in my head, which is where they dx my MS, I have a large mass in my brain tissue and only difference is my spinal fluid is clear.
4730743 tn?1358469813 2 months, and he currently has me on Verapamil ER 180 MG X1 daily, Nortriptyline 10 MG X1 @ bedtime, also Oxycodone/Acetaminophen 5/325 4X a day for break thru pain, as well as Oxycontin 10 mg ER 2X a day. I have taken all of these meds for the last month, with little sucess of relief. Unfort. I have had to take both of my pain medications everyday the last month. My question is about tolerance.
Avatar n tn I take a very similar set of meds. I have suffered for years with chronic pain and my doctor added 25mg of Zipsor (anti-infam). It really makes a difference for me. When my pain gets really loud I take a Zipsor and it really takes the edge off. It has really helped me continue to work. My doc used to prescribe Toradol and it worked great, but because Toradol is so rough on the stomach they would only prescribe 3 days one time every 3 months. I am able to take Zipsor every day.
725248 tn?1316162245 My pain doctor has me on 20mg oxycodone twice a day and up to 6-10/325 norco a day, prior to the oxycodone he had me on 15mg oxycontin twice a day. I am not getting any pain relief from the oxycontin or oxycodone, the norco does give me some pain relief, but am limited to 6 a day as to not damage my liver. What other long acting pain meds are out there??? I have an appointment to see my pain doctor next week, but would like to have some additional info when I go in to see him.
Avatar f tn Tipilot- I was taking 60mg mscontin 3x a day along with 5mg methadone 3x a day and had wonderful relief, I had a prescription for oxycodone but could not afford to fill it. But because I no longer have health insurance my pain doc won't see me anymore so I have had to stop all my meds cold turkey...NO FUN. Good luck and keep us posted.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I hope that this can give someone hope. After so much pain for 5 years and trying all sort of procedures, pain meds and surgeries with no relief, I had got to the point of feeling like this was as good as it was going to get ... and it wasn't good. Even the doctors were losing hope that they'd find something that would help a little. This forum has helped me so much over the years ...
939983 tn?1262528060 I was taking 300+mg of oxycodone a day for the management of the chronic pain associated with adhesive arachnoiditis.
Avatar m tn hi ...i am a 27 years old male and been having pain in my right testicle from 12 years old and i been on pain killers for years "but on and off " because the pain was there and some time wasnt ....around 4 years ago start running and exercising and the pain is killing me ...some time i cant walk even 5 feet ...it making me cry in the street .. well , i use ta take oxy 30 ml 1 a day for 2 years and thats about a year ago ...
Avatar f tn , where the doctor gives you 2 or 3 days worth of a prescription), oxycodone works well. But, for long term pain (e.g. pain lasting weeks, or chronic pain), some find that although oxycodone "hits the pain hard," it wears off quickly. And some physicians and patients find that to be a recipe for dependence and addiction.
2107861 tn?1346470646 I have been on pain management for eight years. I was taking 20mg of oxycodone 4x per day and it was not controlling my pain so the doctor added 20mg of oxycontin 2x per day and I have got a lit of relief!!! But my concern is since I have been taking it my stomack cramps real bad I stay nauseous and can't hardly eat does anyone no if this is a side effect? Don't want to call the doctor because my pain is manageable!!!!
614661 tn?1267273924 Hi Carmel, thanks for the info, yes, I started a few years ago on just Oxycodone, then as the pain became worse, I was given Oxycontin for a more consistant pain relief and used Oxycodone as needed for that break through pain.
356518 tn?1322263642 And Jollyman the reason you experience better pain relief with oxycodone than hydrocodone (most ppl do) is because the oxy is considered a stronger narcotic than hydro.
Avatar n tn Some ppl do have good pain control on Opana and it is prescribed for chronic pain. Other ppl do not have great pain relief with it. But again working closely with your PMP in a trial and error approach should uncover that right combination for you specifically. Please let us know how you are doing and what you find to be effective. I will look forward to hearing from you.
Avatar m tn However when I had a nasty concussion last year and had extreme head pain the oxycodone was more effective on my head pain than my usual medication for chronic pain. Go figure.
Avatar f tn t leave you hanging stay strong try to do some walking i know that sounds like **** but need too sweet and get you mind on and if your not useing med for pain what about methadone they well help you get off the **** you body going in to shock god bless you
Avatar m tn Thank you for your input. Just had 1 question, what do you mean by finding a independant doctor? different doc in the same clinic? If so their all women and i feel more comfortable with a male doc.( Which they only have 1 male doc out of 9 docs.
Avatar f tn Thanx for that great information Jeff. I found that interesting; that the cost of this drug can be so expensive when purchased illegally. To include the patient that was taking upwards of 700mg a day? When you honestly put all this into perspective, all oxycodone/contin is...is synthetic heroin. My personal hands on experience with this pain killer has been a "love hate relationship".
Avatar n tn Tramacet, in a double blind study, showed just as affective as oxycodone as far as pain relief. I have tried codeine, hydrocodon and oxycodone and found that I personally respond best to tramacet. The only bugger about it is that the cost of tramacet is much higher than those of the others. Anyway, good luck. Also, try saunas, hot tubs or even a hot shower. They help me.
10913038 tn?1424227711 ^^ yea same here i wS precribedit after a nasty car accident i took it twice n stoped cause it wasnt nice feeling like that around my daughter n i also had someone ask me to buy it iff me so rhey could shoot it up which pissed me off big time so i disolved them all in got water n tiped down drain.highly addictive stuff.
10178628 tn?1408331209 On oxycodone for over 7yrs and within the past year not getting adequate pain relief. My pain management Dr doesn't believe in tolerance and can't afford to change drs. So lost, any suggestions or literature out there to prove tolerance exsists?
433485 tn?1321813390 Hi. Oxycodone is the generic form of Percocet. I have never of pantprazole, but do take sulcralfate. I also try home remedies of chamomile tea, honey and coconut water. It is miserable....i just had an endoscopy a few weeks ago ( where they go down your throat with a tube and camera) My GI said there's some inflammation there, which is what he told me the last time. I agree how horrible it is when it flares up. Eventually, it will die down. How long do your flare ups last?
Avatar n tn during the day I take about 3 vicodin ex and 2 oxycodone 15mg. for pain. I usually take a couple of ibuprofen but had to stop that yesterday because I am having my lumbar puncture and cervical myelogram next wed. I was up again last night. I took my pill at 10 pm. and at 12:45 I was in severe spasm again. too soon to take another pill. I am so sleep deprived I can't stand it. I am just one of those people who cannot sleep during the day.
Avatar f tn That was a great system that worked for me. Recently I was prescribed oxycodone minus the acetaminophen. I understand the risks of liver damage. However, I have had NO relief since I began this new drug. I'm confused because it is the same drug minus the Tylenol. Anyone else experiencing this? Would taking a higher dose of the oxycodone (not Percocet which is oxy with acetaminophen) help me better?
