Osteoarthritis upper arm pain

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis upper arm pain

Avatar n tn Osteoarthritis would not progress that rapidly. If the pain is severe enough and it developed over 6 months to a year, it is more likely something acute that started it. What type of work do you do? I was thinking rotator cuff damage but in both arms seems unlikely unless you do repetitive stressful work with both of them. My differential Dx....Cervical spinal stenosis, cervical herniated disk, or pinched nerve.
408795 tn?1324939275 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.
211940 tn?1267884866 About 1 year ago I began having pain in my right upper arm, between the shoulder and elbow, about mid arm where the biceps brachii muscle or brachialis muscle is. I went to my Primary Physician who said it was a torn brachialis muscle. Since I was working at a 2nd job, I thought it might be job related so I went through the whole Workman's Comp issue. They sent me to 4 doctors who did nothing for me, finally the case was settled and my lawyer got most of the money, but I still have the pain.
Avatar m tn I have taken avapro for high blood pressure and Lipitor for cholesterol for the past 10 years. My concern is left arm pain located on the inner part of my upper arm. This pain can happen at any time can be sharp or a dull ache. There is no chest pain or shortness of breath with the pain. Can this pain be heart related?
497015 tn?1209741445 I've has MS since 82' ,diagnosed in 99' Two months ago I started having pain in my left upper arm. No pain when touched. only hurts when I move it for reaching backward as trying to put on my coat. Dr says it is me pain. He refused to believe it was any thing else. At first he said : Well I have you on a pretty strong pain pill. I said I Don't Want Another Pill , I want it fixed!!!! Not the answer I wanted. Can't even hook my bra strap. So another pain to add to the long list I already have.
Avatar n tn I have been to 2 different doctors and had an MRI and there seems to be no cause for my severe burning pain in my upper back in my scapula area. The pain meds do not even take all the pain away and the Dr. says I have a pulled muscle and wants me to do physical therapy. My MRI says I have C4-C5 Subtle disc bulge, C5-C6 Unicate hypertrophy and C6-C7 Disc bulge. The Dr. said my MRI was fine but my report says different. Why would he say I am fine when I am clearly in severe pain...
424634 tn?1277861128 Prior to the fusion, I had pain that went down my right arm, fasiculation of the affected muscle, weakness and atrophy. It was horrible. Now, I'm getting pain on both sides and in the same place. I can only assume it's from my neck, but If each nerve only deals with one area of the body, why am I getting this pain again? I thought the fusion resolved this area.
Avatar f tn I have pain in both my upper arms. I suffer from osteoarthritis and wondered if it is connected, I know it is in my spine. The pain is enough to disrupt my sleeping, and I sometimes find it difficult to pick up or hold a book to read because it's so painful. I have to sleep on my side and I'm not sure if it's connected to that. I have tried putting heat on and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I am a 30 year old female and for the past 12 months have been suffering (and going out of my mind) with various type of pain. All located on my left side. Shoulder pain, Arm pain - both forearm and upperarm, fingers, Leg - both lower and upper and sometimes centered around the inside of my knee, stabbing pain in my chest (left side), tingling/numb sensation in my left and sometimes in my face and stabbing/shooting pain in my neck, the side and sometimes the back!!!
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, For approximately 3 years now I have been suffering from chronic upper back pain with headaches, neck pain and left arm tingling. The upper back pain being the worst of it. It took pulling teeth but an MRI was finally done on my lumbar, thoracic, and cervical spine. Pre MRI xrays were done as well. The findings showed mild C5-6 and C6-7 neural foraminal stenosis possibly secondary to mild bony overgrowth of the associated uncovertebral joints.
Avatar n tn But just prior to my back surgery as luck would have it, the torn structures in both my shoulders started causing me significant upper arm pain 24/7. This got significantly worse over time and is now so bad that I can't find a comfortable sleeping position except for sleeping on my back. That is not ideal for me because: (1) I can usually fall aslepp only if I am sleeping on either side, and (2) I know my mid-back pain will start a few hours after I fall asleep on my back.
Avatar f tn Sometimes the pain goes all the way across the elbow into my upper arm. But it never goes into the shoulder. The pain is worse with my palm pointing either toward the floor or toward the midline of the body. Rotating the palm upward or away from the midline causes slightly less pain. I do not notice any difference in pain if my elbow is straight or bent. I've never noticed any swelling in the hand, wrist, elbow, or arm. Icing the lower arm and hand helps temporarily.
Avatar f tn I also have trochanteric bursitis in both hips. Well now for the past 8 months or so I am having pain in my upper arms. More so on my left arm. It is half way between the elbow and shoulder on the outside. Very deep pain. Dull like a toothache when not moving it (not too bad) but becomes extremely painful when I try to lift my arm out to the side or above my head. Not too bad moving forward. A little worse moving behind me than forward but very very painful to lift out to the side.
Avatar n tn Can it be the same spot? It sure feels like it. What do I do? The pain has made my neck, shoulders and upper back all tight. Also pain when I move a different way for some reason down my arm like before. Please help, can't take the pain much longer.

Avatar m tn Rotator cuff signs and symptoms would consist of shoulder pain and also deltoid muscle pain in your upper arm, weakness during shoulder functions and also clicking in the shoulder with popping a prominent feature in some people. It occurs in a dominant arm and the pain may interfere with sleep and worse at night. There is problem with lifting of weights with the effected shoulder and decrease in ability to move the arm, especially out to the side.

Avatar n tn My son is a Dr and even he brushes off the pain I have in left scapula, left side of neck and moving down through upper arm. I also have left pelvic bone pain which the chiro thinks is not associated...?? I do.

874521 tn?1424120397 I suffer from alot of upper back/shoulder pain, I also have DDD of the lower spine and Osteoarthritis. This can all be a symptom of any of these diseases...I do upper arm and spine stretches and go for a massage when able to afford and these all help for a while only. Do any of you have any more suggestions as to the root cause and help for?
Avatar f tn However I have absolutely no pain in my fingers or toes and feel that the pain is more muscular than joint. If I extend my arm too far the pain in my upper arm is excruciating. Trying to go from a kneeling to sitting positions is almost impossible and I struggle to go from sitting/lying to standing position. I'm at my wit's end as I feel that my practitioner is not taking my concerns seriously - can anyone point me in the right direction?
1369383 tn?1299027161 However, it may not always be so. Neck pain may sometimes extend till the arm and fingers, which may be a cause of severe discomfort. This could be one of the many symptoms of pinched nerve in neck. What is Pinched Nerve in Neck? Due to various reasons, sometimes nerves which radiate from the intervertebral areas in the neck get compressed. This leads to stress on the nerve, which emanates pain in the neck and adjoining areas like shoulders, arms and fingers, and upper and lower back.
Avatar n tn , I even asked my husband and he said the same thing. I am going to see a pain management doctor this week to take care of my pain from the osteoarthritis and I think I may ask him. I really think it my be due to inflammation of arthritis causing friction. I have also read that maybe it's from connective muscle issues. If I hear any thing I will let you know.
Avatar f tn On a cold day in February, while swinging a pick axe to clean asphault away from a piece of rail in a railroad crossing(I was employed at a railroad construction company) I experienced an intense pulling and sharp pain in my right shoulder/upper arm. It was almost like the strength was stolen out of my grip as well. I had X-Ray, no broken bones. Results of MRI stated, tendonosis, bursitis, and "water" in the joint. So the workers comp ins.
Avatar f tn I get severe pain/migraine that feel like an icecream headache times 100! Pain in upper back area worse in one area. Pain extending into arm. All kinds of migraines!!! Different kind/areas Bad memory/concentration some tinglng and pins needles nausea lightheadedness face freezes up like paralyzing almost - feel like can't breathe, feel like going to pass out (and i have before so I know what that feeling is like), weak, get dizzy but is not spinning dizzy, it is up and down up and down.
Avatar n tn May be a red herring but in my doctor visits when the doc would push on my chest it would make my upper back hurt for some weird reason but no discomfort or pain to the chest area. The upper chest pain is the pain that seems to be associated with real pain (not nerve related) because sometimes when I have a deep cough or sneeze I feel it. The Doc always tells me lower back problems don’t radiate up only down.
408795 tn?1324939275 It doesn't sound like it will after much reading in the archives. Even during tx I had a really, really bad left arm / shoulder pain....felt like I broke something but nothing showed on am mri. It all makes sense now.
