Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis treatment for pain

Avatar m tn Does anyone here have osteoarthritis in their spine? Is a symptom burning pain in the morning and a feeling of bone on bone before you even get out of bed? Can osteoarthritis be diagnosed through CT or MRI images? When my SI joints show black, and osteophytes forming all along (with bone-on-bone) the connecting sections what can I expect. My Sacrum also feels a very deep and throbbing pain which brings tears of pain to my eyes (no crying of course).

1459410 tn?1285698605 I just found this forum, though I've been a member of the chronic pain forum for months now. I developed osteoarthritis young. I can remember back to my twenties and feeling it on and off, though it was mild. My mom was debilitated by it and on my dad's side, I had two aunts crippled by it. I'm 48 now and have it in my hands, hips, knee, back and ankle. The worst is my hand. I won't go into too much detail as it's a very long story but I think I have the details in my profile.
1069378 tn?1255218732 When there is cartilage loss, a joint can become bone-on-bone, which is very painful for the patient. Treatment options for osteoarthritis focus on pain relief and restoring function to the affected joint. Physical treatments should be attempted wherever possible like weight reduction, exercise, supports, heat and rest. Medications of all forms can be tried like topical, oral, or injectable medications to relieve pain and inflammation .
1257704 tn?1269493583 Sometimes that doesnt help and I had to go in last week to the ER for 2 rounds of strong pain meds thru IV when I got it that bad, so you can see they are bad when they hit. Thanks for any advice and help you give.
Avatar m tn Is it possible I already have osteoarthritis? And are there any non surgical treatment options available to me? I am specifically wondering if injections might help?
Avatar n tn I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work. No arm or shoulder pain, in fact only symptoms for prior surgeries were nerve pain in arm - never had neck pain! At no time did any doc tell me I had OA. I specifically asked this new doc if he saw any disc or bone spurs at that level and he said no. Lab work for RA was all negative. Has anyone had a similar experience???

Avatar n tn Can synvisc treatment be used for shoulder joints as well as knees? Also, has anyone had treatments/injections to relieve shoulder pain from torn rotator cuff injury?
Avatar f tn D) Avoid singing, talking, or chewing too much E) Keep slack-jawed, avoiding bringing or clenching your teeth together F) If it's alright with your doctor- be sure and ask you cardiologist, take 600 mg of ibuprofen for inflammation when the pain is extra bad, but cyclic would likely be a bad idea (without even asking your doctor) right now with your heart problem, as ibuprofen can increase risk of heart attack, I believe.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.

Acupuncture also may be an acceptable alternative to or may be included as part of a comprehensive pain management program. Chiropractic Treatment and Massage Chiropractic treatment is the most common non-surgical treatment for back pain. Improvements of people undergoing chiropractic manipulations were noted in some trials.
Avatar f tn It would be best to consult an orthopedician for an evaluation to the cause of pain and the mode of treatment that would suit you the best. Accordingly a management plan would be chalked out. Hope this was helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn I can't stand for more than 5 minutes and my both legs become heavy and extremely pain full. 6. All the twenty four hours my feet are burning but after several hours res in the night the pain and burning sensation is 80% reduced i.e from 2:am to 12 Noon. The rest of the Hours i am very much annoyed due to pain in my both legs, right from back of the hips up to the tips of my feet fingers. Some times the pain is so severe that i keep on applying electric massager and do the exercises. 7.

Avatar f tn Every doctor I talked to since I first learned I had hep c, told me to wait to be treated because I am bipolar, with major depression. I know I wouldn't survive the old treatment because I get so depressed, I sometimes want to kill myself. I also have osteoarthritis in my lumbar and sciatica. In addition, I was shot in my right arm many years ago. I haven't had ,much trouble with it until now. I have lots of bone and bullet fragments in my shoulder and neck where the bullet used to be.
Avatar f tn You need a diagnosis from a medical doctor and then you should ask a medical doctor for clearance to go to a chiropractor for treatment. I wouldn't go back to the chiropractor until a medical doctor advises you that is okay. I hope you feel better soon.

Avatar f tn I wasn't in pain all the time, but after a weeks of treatment I had severe muscle pain in legs. Thought I just pulled some muscles - i waited a week or so to ask about it, and she re-examined me and said that it can be part of the healing process and to wait it out. Well, it's never gotten better only worse. She recommended ice packs, which helped for a short while.
Avatar f tn This mornings news reported that some doctors are suggesting bee stings for chronic pain. At one time, bee stings were an anecdotal treatment for MS. Maybe I'll take on a couple of bees this weekend. Put 'em up. I'm not allergic to bee stings, but if I give this a try I'll take some Benadryl first. Wish me luck.
1415174 tn?1453246703 May I ask what area of your body has the pain and the type of pain you are treating? Again thanks for the update. I am so happy for you.
