osteoarthritis

1378884 tn?1315509445 RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability. Cartilage is eaten away; even connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments can be affected as well. The confusion often arises because RA damage *can* lead to OA in the joints; however, OA does NOT cause RA. Make sense?
Avatar m tn I mentioned this to my MD at my annual physical and she felt that it was probably osteoarthritis (mainly due to the fact that there was no redness around the joints). She didn't order any kind of tests to confirm this diagnosis. I've also started to notice some tenderness in my elbow joints when resting my elbows on a table, and my knee joints have been a bit stiff and sore after using my exercise bike.

Avatar f tn 14 Months ago I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both knees and Buritis in my hips. It came on suddenly and it is very painful. I have seen 2 specialists and have had 2 lots of steroid injections in both knees and one steroid injection in my right hip. I have been taking Meloxicam and painkillers. Today I have been to see a specialist with the view to having knee replacement surgery. After looking at my recent x rays he has informed me that I have Avascular Necrosis in both knees.
Avatar n tn I know I'm 2 years late with my comment but I've recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee. I'm 42 years old for god sake! I've been taking Prevacid for 5 years and my Doctor dismissed the "rumors" as well. I come from a family of fat and skinny but almost 100% healthy members. My Mom didn't start menopause until she was 50 so I know that can't be the problem. I keep thinking; "why are my bones doing this?
Avatar f tn I think the arthritis issues that can be related to interferon are more along the lines of rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune disorder, than osteoarthritis, so should not make the osteo worse but might add another layer of misery if the interferon causes that in you; no way to tell in advance if it will happen. I know stenosis is bad and most people need to correct that with surgery.
Avatar f tn During treatment, my legs would ache. I thought it was the medicine but they continue to hurt 8 months post treatment. It rained today and now they are acting up again. I think the medicine brought out some arthitis. Has this happened to anybody else?
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar f tn Yes you do have a higher genetic risk for RA when close family members have also had the disease. RA and Osteoarthritis is rampant in the females of my family - to a lesser degree the males also. Have the appropriate labs been done to determine if you have Arthritis - a Sed Rate and ANA? If not I hope you'll ask your parents help in getting these important labs ran. Early treatment in RA is important - it can reduce and/or prolong joint deterioration. However don't jump to conclusions.

20063166 tn?1489404667 Passed more than 7 months after the successful treatment of my son from hepatitis C, but there were serious side effects that were not before treatment: 1 problems with the eyes-before the eyes of the mesh; If you look at a certain point it begins to blur; Wave-like movement of objects, if tired; Bright light is a problem, often there is burning in the eyes. 2 there is a fog in his head, which prevents him from thinking clearly and very much influences his memory.
Avatar n tn Re: Some will try to claim that these problems cropping up after tx are a 'coincidence', or are due to some sort of rapid aging. How ridiculous to keep saying this. The point was that since such symptoms can be seen in the aging process, it must be difficult to definitively link them to the effects of interferon treatment. But Kalio supplied you with research that supports your suspicions, even though she/he was treated rudely on the other thread.
Avatar n tn I have hypothyroid, High blood pressure, high cholesterol, Sjogren's, some unidentified autoimmune disease, osteoarthritis, my back is mess. I'm always in pain. I did everything right for most of my life, and now at 53 (starting around 50) I am so sick and miserable. I'm sure the MS people might feel the same. There's nothing wrong with what you are saying, but I also get angry when people tell me, *oh, just change your diet and lose weight.
475586 tn?1225027354 My knees do have osteoarthritis in them--I had an MRI. I also have 2 herniated discs in my neck and kyphosis. My sister has RA, so I thought I had it also, but the doctors say no. I have a rheumatologist who is very nice, although most of the treatments I've been getting for fibro are not doing much. He seems sure that other than my knees and my neck, what I have is fibromyalgia. I have pain all the time, aching and soreness and also the sharp, stabbing pains.

Avatar f tn Knee swelling and ankle pain can be caused by a variety of causes. I agree with the treatment for DVT. Other potential causes can be infection, osteoarthritis, sprains or bursitis. Imaging the joints can be considered with, first, a plain film, and second, an MRI can be considered. If negative, more systemic causes can be considered, including evaluating the kidneys with blood tests, and the heart with an echocardiogram. Avatar f tn Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can also cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as in other organs in the body. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is caused by the breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of one or more joints. Cartilage is a protein substance that serves as a "cushion" between the bones of the joints.
