Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis treatment doctor

osteoarthritis

Avatar m tn I would say 3-7 would be moderate on a scale of 1-10, but I don't think that is what you are looking for. What symptoms are you experiencing now? What treatment has the doctor prescribed? What area of your body is effected?
Avatar m tn Thanks for the comment. Ordinarily, I would say you are right to follow doctor recommendation first. However, I have read about some very nasty side affects associated with Fosamax and am quite concerned about taking it. Do not have bad osteoarthritis, just trying to keep bones strong. I read about Osteo K in a very reputable magazine (Bottom Line) in May 09. They were very positive about it.
Avatar m tn Is it possible I already have osteoarthritis? And are there any non surgical treatment options available to me? I am specifically wondering if injections might help?

Avatar n tn Although I have had 2 surgeries on my cervical spine for ruptured discs and lax ligaments (am now fused from C3-C6), I am now told that I have significant osteoarthritis at C1-C2 (atlanto-axial joint) Accupuncture did relieve a lot of the associated muscle spasms but I still get bone pain sometimes even at the base of my skull. I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work.
7486852 tn?1410355784 Anyone know of a good osteoarthritis doctor in Michigan? I'm in Jackson. I have osteoarthritis in my knees but I need a to have my hips, wrists/hands and back looked at as well the pain is disabling.. The pain in my feet, shoulders, and ribs are more of an uncomfortable feeling than actual pain, although it does get worse with movement, and the other places that hurt, hurt constantly even if I am just sitting, standing, or lying down, although lying down is when its the least painful.
1378884 tn?1315509445 I think you'll find it eases your mind...or it may spark a conversation with your doctor that can lead to early treatment! It's important not to rely on prednisone for the long-term - the long term side effects are not pretty. IMO only it's better to sumbit to surgery to fix the problem as well as it can be fixed, but that's a personal decision.
1459410 tn?1285698605 Im in PT to help as well but if anyone would like to share a short summary of their story from pre-diag symptoms through successful treatment, I would really like to see how the different docs have handled your speciific case. The most effective thing Ive done on my own was recently bought an herbal cream that has capsicum in it whihc has done more than any of the other pharma routes. Its still kinda unbearable but Ive at least noticed it being somewhat alleviated.
Avatar m tn I mentioned this to my MD at my annual physical and she felt that it was probably osteoarthritis (mainly due to the fact that there was no redness around the joints). She didn't order any kind of tests to confirm this diagnosis. I've also started to notice some tenderness in my elbow joints when resting my elbows on a table, and my knee joints have been a bit stiff and sore after using my exercise bike.
Avatar f tn Years ago after horrendous headaches and neck pain and trips to the ER I was diagnosed w/ osteoarthritis that cause migraines. Been taking hydrocodone for it since then and it's been a godsend. 2 little pills and both problems go away and I can function.............I don't take them everyday, more like 3 or 4 days a week, 2 pills and I'm good for most of the day. I also have a tens unit which has help tremendously as well. Take LOTS of hot baths etc. Fast forward to now.......

Avatar f tn I had spinal fusion and harrington rods surgery in 1987 in the lumbar area for congenital scoliosis. I also have osteoarthritis, cervical arthritis and fibromyalgia and sometimes severe headaches. I have been reading the posts from the different people and I am sorry to say that I can relate to the unbearable pain.
Avatar f tn I am in stage 3 hepatitis C and am on the brink of cirrhosis with some liver damage. Every doctor I talked to since I first learned I had hep c, told me to wait to be treated because I am bipolar, with major depression. I know I wouldn't survive the old treatment because I get so depressed, I sometimes want to kill myself. I also have osteoarthritis in my lumbar and sciatica. In addition, I was shot in my right arm many years ago. I haven't had ,much trouble with it until now.
Avatar f tn The doctor should be a Rheumatologist. I'm surprised he'd tell you to talk to your family doctor. My regular doctor sent me to a rheumy to evaluate and diagnose and then after that the family doctor too over care and refilling meds the rheumy started me on. I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. They are the same here thinking everyone is a "drug seeker". It makes me want to scream. I told them I'm just a "help seeker. Please make it better!
Avatar f tn I think the arthritis issues that can be related to interferon are more along the lines of rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune disorder, than osteoarthritis, so should not make the osteo worse but might add another layer of misery if the interferon causes that in you; no way to tell in advance if it will happen. I know stenosis is bad and most people need to correct that with surgery.
Avatar f tn Basically my jaw kept popping in and out of place more frequently since my second go at having braces, which finished up back a year ago or so but it's been getting progressively worse, notably since August I can't open my mouth properly anymore and no I haven't been diagnosed officially by a doctor, last time I went with two complaints, jaw and heart so she told me my heart one was more serious and ignored my jaw.
Avatar n tn Tina, I can't help you with the question of if you get osteo effects from treatment, but I can tell you that I am on Actonel along with doing treatment. I developed osteoperosis at 42 years old and before treatment. I think that based on my experience, I would say that osteo effects (I also have osteoarthritis) may come from the hcv, not the treatment for hcv. That would just be my guess.
159785 tn?1276229625 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in January. The doctor wasn't on my insurance, so I got a new endocrinologist four weeks ago, who increased my dosage of Synthroid to 50 mcg after reviewing labs from my old doctor. My PVCs became almost unbearable, and since I was supposed to get another lab in two weeks, I asked her if she wanted to run it now because of the PVCs. Her nurse called me today, told me my TSH was normal (1.

1213000 tn?1280466761 I have osteoarthritis in the knees and neck and some nerve pain that has plagued me since a bout with Bells Palsy in the right front portion of the neck. These pains were controlled with Motrin -- prescribed at 800 mg three times a day. Now I am on Plasurgrel (new blood thinner) and diltiazem for BP and the doc says "No Motrin, No Nexium, No anything" for the other pain. Ok, I don't want to die but how do I handle the pain? I do not want narcotics.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn I have had pain in my hips and knees for the past three years i thought i was just overdoing it with walking etc and would stop for a while and start again but in the past three months iv been in terrible pain and had to take pain killers every day i went to my Doctor and he said it probably was osteoarthritis and you can expect that as you get older im a 49 year old female, i was not happy to think that was all i could do put up with it as im a very active person and i found that if i walked i
1211850 tn?1266938568 I had used Lexapro throughout treatment, and stopped at the same time as treatment was completed; this might have been premature, and contributed to my post treatment depression. Now, nearly 1.5 years afterwards, everything is back to normal, as far as I can tell. I have type 2 diabetes; this actually is better in terms of management; I no longer require insulin, although I still take oral anti-diabetic pills.
Avatar f tn I would not recommend surgery while undergoing treatment for Hep C. Treatment drugs will lower his white count and likely cause some anemia, both of which could make surgery more risky. Also, depending upon the exact stage of his liver damage, a surgeon may or may not be willing to do the surgery. Surgery can cause the liver to decompensate (stop working properly), so usually a surgeon will need a hepatologist to approve the patient for surgery before agreeing to do it.
Avatar n tn I have Osteoarthritis. I've had it for over 20 yeras. Its in my hands. I recently moved to the CSRA area of South Carolina. I have been to FOUR doctors here. They dont listen. They mess with my high blood pressure, my pain management, and Asperger's Syndrone medication. The results have been catastrophic. They want to try all kinds of things, and Im tired of it. I want to go back to the meds that WORK.
572823 tn?1217212689 These pilot studies of MSM have suggested some benefits, particularly for treatment of osteoarthritis. Further studies would be needed to test the usefulness of the chemical as a medical therapy. Osteoarthritis: After several reports that MSM helped arthritis in animal models, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study suggested that 1500 mg per day MSM (alone or in combination with glucosamine sulfate) was helpful in relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (Usha and Naidu 2004). 975514 tn?1325001538 PM does offer more than other doctors in Pm and also they tend to understand your pain issues much better too. I would definitely get a PM doctor. I would also talk to the doctor who treated you so badly and make it very clear that you were treated badly and that there was absolutely no reason at all for it.
Avatar n tn I want to share my experience in hopes it will help just one person who reads this who has low thyroid to get proper treatment - and to enlighten just one doctor about proper testing and natural thyroid hormone treatment. Underactive thyroid causes more health problems than any of you can imagine, unless you've had it, like me.
