1175033 tn?1492204828 I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. I didnt want to believe him, but now I starting to realize why he said that. I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms. I also have weird bone growths, on my ankle, heel, toe joints, finger joints, Im too young for all this. My sed rate always comes back normal.
Avatar m tn As it was explained to me, what's happened to my joint is that the tibia has healed at an angle which is putting pressure on the front of the ankle. To look at, it's sort of pointing straight down whereas the uninjured leg slopes inwards towards the ankle joint. My own research suggests that I could be the ideal candidate for a low tibial osteotomy. According to the following study, it looks like it may even provide a cure: http://www.healio.
1176578 tn?1263756689 As a result I am exhausted most of the time. The stiffness lasts for a couple of hours but comes back quickly if I sit in one position for any length of time. I have also begun to experience flaring pain in my left ankle, radiating to the outside upper portion of my foot. It is not swollen or red, just painful and does not allow me to put my full weight on it.
Avatar n tn Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar n tn No one said anything about arthritis at that time. I had a spine MRI performed in late March. Now all of the sudden I'm riddled with arthritis, and the degeneration is compressing discs and nerves. My Orthopedist seems to feel that the arthritis is not related to the wreck. It's my understanding that trauma to any joints can lead to the onset of arthritis. I have never had the kind of problems I'm having until after the accident.
1459410 tn?1285698605 My last major surgery was a fusion in the hope that would take away the bulk of the pain. It didn't. It's likely that I'll have chronic pain my whole life and will be in some kind of pain management program my whole life. What makes me the saddest is my younger kids don't have the mother my older kids did.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the helpful information and posting your original message years ago. I, like the rest here have the same issues with my ankle following a sever break, and then going to a law enforcement academy with it broken. I had my ankle scoped last year to clean out the joint to include removing some bone chips floating around. I'm worse off now following that surgery. I'm starting my first Synvisc series tomorrow all with hopes of postponing the ankle replacement. I’m 36, too young!
Avatar f tn Since there is swelling on one side this could be due to ligament tear or bony spur. Impingement of the ankle joint between the bones of ankle and foot is another possibility. Osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis are the other possibilities. Bursitis can give a sudden onset pain. Dislocation or rupture of a tendon can also cause shooting pain.
Avatar f tn Ankle fusion surgery is a procedure performed for the treatment of ankle arthritis. Here, worn out joint surfaces surgically removed. The ankle bones are then held together with metal implants, and the bone surfaces heal in this position. The joint is then permanently stiff after ankle fusion, but the result is usually a pain-free joint. Patient’s who are not been treated successfully with conservative measures are ideal candidates for ankle fusion.

Avatar f tn The other is joint distraction. I don't have a lot of info on that. I will find out more after my CT on Friday. The suggestion the specialist made was "learn to like to swim". Let me know what you do.
Avatar f tn I am in the Baltimore area, but have not been able to locate a dr. using synvisc for the ankle. Could you point me in the right direction?
Avatar n tn In 1997, I suffered a talus bone fracture on left ankle and wore an AFL leg/ankle brace. In early 2005, radiographs documented the fractured had bonded, so I weaned out of the AFO and started physical therapy to strengthen the left ankle and tendons in both legs. In May 2007, a CT scan documented evidence of cystic changes in the talus, cystic structures that are well corticated and an osteochondral defect on the medial aspect of the talar joint.
1248885 tn?1285836339 you may have injured the sural nerve, which is located on the outter part of the foot, ankle, and leg. have the doctor place you in a removable cast for a week or two to immobilize the ankle and calm things down. the swelling can also hyperstimulate the nerve and cause sharp pain. in the meantime, apply ice to the ankle and keep it compressed with ace bandages. lastly, elevate it every time you are sitting.
568812 tn?1379169394 Arthritis in the small bones of the hindfoot (under the ankle joint itself) could be causing the pain. You may not feel or hear any grinding, but if there is inflammation in those small joints, you'll feel it. Pregnancy can wreak havoc with your immune system, as a portion of it turns "off" while you're pregnant so your body doesn't reject the fetus as foreign tissue. After birth, when that part switching back "on", things can go a bit haywire.
280234 tn?1532989849 I also get a burning sensation, I also get swelling not only in the lump area but the whole ankle itself. Also on the skin on top of the lumps the colour has changed in the last few months it has changed to the colour blue which is really concerning me. I am still waiting for that appointment with the Plastic surgeon, my Family doctor keeps assuring me I'm on the top of some list but I'm losing hope and in terrible pain. Have you heard anything like this before?
765802 tn?1263304451 If you hurt more with activity, it is usually osteoarthritis. I think pain is pain. If you have a bad case of OA and someone has a mild case of RA, you may experience a greater impact but the long term prognosis for the person with RA may be tougher. The thing with RA is that it can affect more than your joints. Also, if you have RA, you have a better chance of having something else wrong, too, because these darn autoimmune diseases seem to like to show up together.
Avatar n tn Contact dermatitis, insect bite all can cause red itchy rash on the ankle but swelling is unlikely in these conditions. Ankle swelling can be seen in rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout.heart problems, kidney ailments etc. In gout the joint appears purple, shiny, feels very sore and tender, and is inflamed/swollen. Seek medical help. Treatment will depend on the cause. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
2203261 tn?1338781539 As for the pain, please contact your surgeon for a follow-up. Once the complex structure of the ankle is disrupted, you may have to put up with some level of discomfort, and you're more likely to develop osteoarthritis in the joint later in life. Good luck!
Avatar m tn You mentioned radiographs, not exactly sure what that is but Ive had my sergion look at few X-rays, he was looking at the space between the bones in tha ankle, his concern was wether or not to put a screw in, cause apparently my fractured fibula can cause swelling in the the ankle and thus spreding the bones out of posistion causing instability but he thinks the x-rays look alright, so he sent me home after 6 weeks and asked me to come back in 3 weeks, should i be pushing for a sooner date.

Avatar m tn For about a month I have had a redness on the lower right side of my right leg and ankle. There is NO pain, swelling or itching just the redness. My thoughts are that it could be from the shower cleaner spray that I had been using. I am a 63 year old male with osteoarthritis in the right hip. I have made an appointment to see a dermatologist but that is not until March 1st. Is it safe to wait another month for that appointment ? Thank you for your answers.
Avatar n tn I have mild joint space loss and small subchondral cyst arising from the tibial surface of the talus at the subtalar joint -moderate focal osteoarthritis of the posterior subtalar joint. Mild joint space loss at the talonavicular joint and mild tendinosos of the peroneus longus tendon. I am a long distance runner with no previous condition who was blind sided with this sudden onset pain.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar f tn As for what I DO have - well, I have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis/Degenerative Disk Disease, Vitiligo and at one time, Carcinoma In Situ of the Cervix, but have been fine ever since Leep Surgery. SO, that's it. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder, so I assume I have the generalized autoimmune thing going on and am susceptible to other AI disorders as well. My Chiropractor has two done full evaluations on me, one in 04 and the other in 07.
Avatar m tn It also has burning feeling in different spots at different times. I;ve also had on both ankle and elbows spots that swell up, burn to the touch, hurt and turn red at times. My doctor doesn't know what it is or where to go.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I can confirm the exact cause of your condition only after I clinically examine you. The common causes of ankle pain are tendonitis, ankle sprain, arthritis, fracture etc. Is there swelling also? A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage.
Avatar f tn While some of what you describes sounds more like OA (pain in joints on one side is usually osteoarthritis) but with your other symptoms and the widespread pain on one side of your body, this is definitely worthy of investigation.

Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
Avatar f tn What causes the majority of the pain is usually the side-to-side rotation of the foot/ankle, not so much the up/down motion of flexing and extending the foot. Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help.
