1459410 tn?1285698605 Im in PT to help as well but if anyone would like to share a short summary of their story from pre-diag symptoms through successful treatment, I would really like to see how the different docs have handled your speciific case. The most effective thing Ive done on my own was recently bought an herbal cream that has capsicum in it whihc has done more than any of the other pharma routes. Its still kinda unbearable but Ive at least noticed it being somewhat alleviated.
Avatar f tn Stress fractures of medial malleolus, tarsal tunnel syndrome, and sinus tarsi syndrome (pain just front of lateral malleolus on the outer side of ankle) are the other possibilities. The clue to right treatment is right diagnosis of the cause of pain. You can consult an orthopedic specialist. X-rays, MRI, blood tests etc may be required. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar m tn Since there is swelling on one side this could be due to ligament tear or bony spur. Impingement of the ankle joint between the bones of ankle and foot is another possibility. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the other possibilities. Bursitis can give a sudden onset pain. Dislocation or rupture of a tendon can also cause shooting pain.
Avatar f tn Ankle fusion surgery is a procedure performed for the treatment of ankle arthritis. Here, worn out joint surfaces surgically removed. The ankle bones are then held together with metal implants, and the bone surfaces heal in this position. The joint is then permanently stiff after ankle fusion, but the result is usually a pain-free joint. Patient’s who are not been treated successfully with conservative measures are ideal candidates for ankle fusion.
Avatar f tn Need information on synvisc injections "off label" for ankle arthritis. Will travel anywhere for a doctor that is doing this precedure. Can you help me find a doc? I am in the Baltimore area, but have not been able to locate a dr. using synvisc for the ankle. Could you point me in the right direction?
Avatar f tn Synvisc is not a drug to relieve pain, it will take time in acting as this is one of the hyaluronates used in viscosupplementation. Synvisc is a treatment for osteoarthritis which is injected directly into the knee joint. Take care!
Avatar n tn Contact dermatitis, insect bite all can cause red itchy rash on the ankle but swelling is unlikely in these conditions. Ankle swelling can be seen in rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout.heart problems, kidney ailments etc. In gout the joint appears purple, shiny, feels very sore and tender, and is inflamed/swollen. Seek medical help. Treatment will depend on the cause. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn However, this is an approved indication unlike the usage for shoulder osteoarthritis and ankle is not an apptoved indiaction. It can be used logically for shoulder but then it would be an off label usage. Refer: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/49461.
Avatar m tn As I said earlier that sensations of popping suggests that you might have a ligament weakness and grinding suggests that you might have premature osteoarthritis of ankle joint. I think we should wait and see the effect of physiotherapy and then decide regarding further intervention.

Avatar n tn I have osteoarthritis and a sever injury in my left ankle, I wear a brace and walking or exercising is almost out of the question. I'm not supposed to pick up anything over a pound and I have lost 1/2 inch in leg length. I also went through menapuse early. Maybe I had hep then. I'm not sure. I need a good Dr. They have not treated me except with pain meds. I also have herniated disc in back and degenerative ones. I eat plenty of yogurt, hope this helps.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
5795382 tn?1374427106 After almost a week, my shoulder pain went away, my ankle swelling was no more, and my right knee's swelling was almost completely gone, along with my other knee that completely stopped hurting- I was surprised that I had started to feel better so quickly. I was worried about the D2 treatment at first because I'd heard that only D3 would help and also that other vitamins were needed to help the body absorb the vit D. but again, I started to feel better immediately.
Avatar n tn I have mild joint space loss and small subchondral cyst arising from the tibial surface of the talus at the subtalar joint -moderate focal osteoarthritis of the posterior subtalar joint. Mild joint space loss at the talonavicular joint and mild tendinosos of the peroneus longus tendon. I am a long distance runner with no previous condition who was blind sided with this sudden onset pain.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I can confirm the exact cause of your condition only after I clinically examine you. The common causes of ankle pain are tendonitis, ankle sprain, arthritis, fracture etc. Is there swelling also? A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage.

Avatar n tn e. infection, osteoarthritis, gout). The treatment would depend on what is causing this. An infection can be treated with appropriate antibiotics, gout be treated with steroids or Indocin, or a rash or allergy treated with steroids. Your primary care physician should be able to identify and appropriately treat this condition. If not, then appropriate referrals should be made. Followup with your personal physician is essential.

657653 tn?1224684306 Aside from weight reduction and avoiding activities that exert excessive stress on the joint cartilage, there is no specific treatment to halt cartilage degeneration or to repair damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis. Apart from regular NSAID's, treatment options can include arthrocentesis and arthroscopy, arthroplasty, osteotomy and arthrodesis. Depending on the extent of damage to the bone and disc treatment options might vary. Check this link for further information. http://www.
Avatar n tn I have pain and swelling in my right ankle and wrist and pain in the base of my neck on the right side.
Avatar n tn This week we discuss the causes, prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis. Cartilage between the bones in the joints usually provides for a very smooth surface with very little friction (similar to rubbing baby oil between your fingers). Osteoarthritis begins as the cells which making cartilage in the joints begins to grow abnormally. The result is an initially thickened layer of cartilage, which soon becomes thin and develops cracks on the surface.

Avatar f tn Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help. Surgery to insert stabilizing pins through the offending joint(s), thus fusing them, does internally what the brace is doing externally, allowing you to get rid of the brace. I had the pins put in my right foot and currently have the external brace on my left.
Avatar n tn These two injuries could be same as with help of rest and other treatment modalities for ankle swelling, the knee would have gone better only with help of rest to ankle. Now upon moving you would have probably dislocated your meniscus and hence knee swelling and pain. These injuries could be different as the time between the two symptoms is more. I think it is all same injury and it has caused an injury to your meniscus. I recommend you to get an imaging study as soon as possible.
