1175033 tn?1492204828 I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. I didnt want to believe him, but now I starting to realize why he said that. I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms. I also have weird bone growths, on my ankle, heel, toe joints, finger joints, Im too young for all this. My sed rate always comes back normal.
Avatar m tn As it was explained to me, what's happened to my joint is that the tibia has healed at an angle which is putting pressure on the front of the ankle. To look at, it's sort of pointing straight down whereas the uninjured leg slopes inwards towards the ankle joint. My own research suggests that I could be the ideal candidate for a low tibial osteotomy. According to the following study, it looks like it may even provide a cure: http://www.healio.
1176578 tn?1263756689 My question is, could the joint stiffness in the night and mornings be related to osteoarthritis? Or could it be signs of RA? I see my family doc (first check up in 4 years in a couple of weeks) and I'd like to know the right tests to ask for. I am in constant pain despite the pain medication. I have a great job and family, my husband is a tennis teaching pro and my kids and he are fit and slim. I feel I am missing out on so much because my pain and extreme fatigue keeps me sidelined.
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar n tn Technique - Multiple pulse MRI sequences were performed in multiple planes through the cervical spine without administration of intravenous contrast. Findings - There is no evidence of acute fracture, subluxation, or dislocation. The vertebral body heights, intervertebral spaces and alignment of the spine are maintained. The prevertebral soft tissues are within normal limits. At C1-C2 - No abnormalities are seen. At C2-C3 - There is no evidence of disc herniation.
1459410 tn?1285698605 I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis. I recently got an MRI after years of suffering and learned about disc displacement, one of them displaced all the time and it's torn. Pool exercise might help you some if they are joints that go underwater. And if you have knee arthritis, I saw on tv where I scientific study was done proving acupuncture can be a help.
Avatar f tn Since there is swelling on one side this could be due to ligament tear or bony spur. Impingement of the ankle joint between the bones of ankle and foot is another possibility. Osteoarthritis, gout and rheumatoid arthritis are the other possibilities. Bursitis can give a sudden onset pain. Dislocation or rupture of a tendon can also cause shooting pain.

Avatar f tn Ankle fusion surgery is a procedure performed for the treatment of ankle arthritis. Here, worn out joint surfaces surgically removed. The ankle bones are then held together with metal implants, and the bone surfaces heal in this position. The joint is then permanently stiff after ankle fusion, but the result is usually a pain-free joint. Patient’s who are not been treated successfully with conservative measures are ideal candidates for ankle fusion.
Avatar f tn I went in for a second opinion yesterday after months of pain and swelling in my ankle. The hospital did xrays 2 months ago and said i had mild arthritis and could not understand why i had so much pain and swelling. The xray done yesterday at an independent dr shows advanced arthritis. I'm 39 and he says i'm not a good candidate for ankle replacement as it does not last for my age group. He also says fusion is an option but i'm too young for that.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information, but however I am having a problem finding an orthopedic doctor in Balto that is giving snynvisc in the ankle. Do you have a source for locating a doctor in the Balto/Washington area.
568812 tn?1379169394 If there was no ankle trauma or injury in the past, ankle pain may indeed be caused by arthritis including gouty arthritis, osteoarthritis and other types, as well as damage or swelling of tendons or cartilage and even infection in the ankle joint. Problems in areas near the ankle that needs to be ruled out also are blockage of blood vessels in the leg, heel pain or nerve injuries. For proper evaluation, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor.
1248885 tn?1285836339 you may have injured the sural nerve, which is located on the outter part of the foot, ankle, and leg. have the doctor place you in a removable cast for a week or two to immobilize the ankle and calm things down. the swelling can also hyperstimulate the nerve and cause sharp pain. in the meantime, apply ice to the ankle and keep it compressed with ace bandages. lastly, elevate it every time you are sitting.
Avatar n tn The Orthopedic Surgeon recommends surgery to fill the (3) open holes and to pin the ankle bones, however, due to my age of 65 with chronic upper and lower back pain, hypertension, episodes of (undiagnosed) dizziness, 5' 10" tall overweight 280 Lbs., I am not a good surgical candidate, therefore, if I continue with little to no pain from that left tala area, the Ortho suggested staying in the AFL leg brace.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the helpful information and posting your original message years ago. I, like the rest here have the same issues with my ankle following a sever break, and then going to a law enforcement academy with it broken. I had my ankle scoped last year to clean out the joint to include removing some bone chips floating around. I'm worse off now following that surgery. I'm starting my first Synvisc series tomorrow all with hopes of postponing the ankle replacement. I’m 36, too young!
280234 tn?1532989849 It does not sound like cancer. The following medical conditions are some of the possible causes of ankle lump. There are likely to be other possible causes, so ask your podiatrist orthopedician based on your symptoms to diagnose it properly: Ganglion, osteoarthritis, infection, aneurysm, fracture, callus formation, scar tissue, ankle injury Take care!
765802 tn?1263304451 If you hurt more with activity, it is usually osteoarthritis. I think pain is pain. If you have a bad case of OA and someone has a mild case of RA, you may experience a greater impact but the long term prognosis for the person with RA may be tougher. The thing with RA is that it can affect more than your joints. Also, if you have RA, you have a better chance of having something else wrong, too, because these darn autoimmune diseases seem to like to show up together.
Avatar n tn Contact dermatitis, insect bite all can cause red itchy rash on the ankle but swelling is unlikely in these conditions. Ankle swelling can be seen in rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout.heart problems, kidney ailments etc. In gout the joint appears purple, shiny, feels very sore and tender, and is inflamed/swollen. Seek medical help. Treatment will depend on the cause. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
2203261 tn?1338781539 As for the pain, please contact your surgeon for a follow-up. Once the complex structure of the ankle is disrupted, you may have to put up with some level of discomfort, and you're more likely to develop osteoarthritis in the joint later in life. Good luck!
Avatar m tn As I said earlier that sensations of popping suggests that you might have a ligament weakness and grinding suggests that you might have premature osteoarthritis of ankle joint. I think we should wait and see the effect of physiotherapy and then decide regarding further intervention.

Avatar m tn For about a month I have had a redness on the lower right side of my right leg and ankle. There is NO pain, swelling or itching just the redness. My thoughts are that it could be from the shower cleaner spray that I had been using. I am a 63 year old male with osteoarthritis in the right hip. I have made an appointment to see a dermatologist but that is not until March 1st. Is it safe to wait another month for that appointment ? Thank you for your answers.
Avatar n tn I have mild joint space loss and small subchondral cyst arising from the tibial surface of the talus at the subtalar joint -moderate focal osteoarthritis of the posterior subtalar joint. Mild joint space loss at the talonavicular joint and mild tendinosos of the peroneus longus tendon. I am a long distance runner with no previous condition who was blind sided with this sudden onset pain.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I can confirm the exact cause of your condition only after I clinically examine you. The common causes of ankle pain are tendonitis, ankle sprain, arthritis, fracture etc. Is there swelling also? A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage.
Avatar f tn While some of what you describes sounds more like OA (pain in joints on one side is usually osteoarthritis) but with your other symptoms and the widespread pain on one side of your body, this is definitely worthy of investigation.
Avatar f tn Hi there, There are several conditions which can cause one sided ankle swelling. A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
Avatar n tn I certainly would consider medical help. Causes includes a rash, allergy, infection, an ankle sprain, or varies causes of monoarthritis (i.e. infection, osteoarthritis, gout). The treatment would depend on what is causing this. An infection can be treated with appropriate antibiotics, gout be treated with steroids or Indocin, or a rash or allergy treated with steroids. Your primary care physician should be able to identify and appropriately treat this condition.
Avatar f tn What causes the majority of the pain is usually the side-to-side rotation of the foot/ankle, not so much the up/down motion of flexing and extending the foot. Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help.
Avatar n tn arthritis testing. I have had diagnosis of osteoarthritis forever it seems, and patellafemoral arthritis. but since its in all my joints he wants further testing before proceeding with further surgeries. Physical therapy for locked shoulder since surgery. bone spurring both knees and shoulders. So much..Cardiologist feels I even may have arthritis in my chest. I just had venous doppler and have Venous Reflux Disease in both legs now. fun fun.
