Osteoarthritis meds

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis meds

513154 tn?1340228889 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis? I have terrible neck pain and headaches and numbness on left side of body.
1175033 tn?1492204828 Any insite and coping skills you could pass on would be great, I cant tolerate any anti-informatory meds due to stomach problems so that makes pain management difficult. Thanks for reading!
1257704 tn?1269493583 My neck is very swollen on the sides from the Osteoarthrtis, I cant' take meds like NSAIDS, as I get very sick when I take them. Ok so my question is, I get really bad migraines I am getting the one I get normally that lasts for 4 days in a row when I get them. Yesterday it got tolerable and I was ok. Today I taken Tylenol 3, and later a Imitrex 50 mg's from my dr. he gave me both as he knows I struggle with these. Can my migraines be from my neck being swollen from the Arthritis?
Avatar f tn I have osteoarthritis just about everywhere. I have had bilateral hip replacements, knee replacement, shoulder replacement and stenosis for which I have had back surgery for L4-5, S1, laminectomy and spinal fusion. The stenosis is back in my spine. I have been taken off anything with acetaminophen b/c of the kidney damage. I am in terrible pain and need something that I can take that will not cause more kidney damage.
Avatar f tn Hi there! I was diagnosed about 6 months ago with osteoarthritis in my L4/5 and was told it was a moderate case by my GP. I've had back pain going back 10yrs, but they just figured it out recently. My problem is that my doctor is refusing to do pain control even with my CT and Xrays showing up postive. I've told her I'm looking for pain relief and not to get high. In the last 3 months or so, it's been 5/7 days with moderate pain and I'm taking the max amount of Motrin and T1's possible.
Avatar n tn Is there anything else I can do to try to halt the progression of the disease? Or are there any better meds I can take. I am 54yrs old, female and not over weight and physically active.
Avatar n tn After having a surgery to fix on particular problem that left me with a whole different problem I went to three other osteo docs. They all advised me to have hip replacement due to osteoarthritis, but I didn't want to do that without trying every other avenue. I recently had a 'live blood analysis' and discovered a tiny organism called 'mycoplasma arthritides' was responsible for my problem. I was told that a trauma like my surgery couild have triggered the organism.
1459410 tn?1285698605 I have taken ibuprofen for weeks at a time in the past for the osteoarthritis in my jaws. I try to take it sparingly for it now. But I get frequent heartburn and was recently put on cytotec generic, which is supposed to help with stomach lining. I have tried acupuncture, which I thought helped some, herbal heat pack, ice, valium, ibuprofen and wear a flat-planed splint for my jaw osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn Long story short, after arthroscopic surgery on my right knee (the worst of the 2), my surgeon found an incredible amount of damage...all from osteoarthritis. He said he's never seen such damage in someone my age. I was an incredibly active person and was in the military for 8 years. I have sinced had to quit running and many activities I enjoyed. It has been so very very depressing and I find it hard some days to go on. I am 7 weeks post-op and saw my surgeon today.
Avatar n tn A Baker's Cyst also popped up last month at an also bad knee (torn ligaments never corrected). As of a few weeks ago, my Rheumatologist told me I have osteoarthritis in my hands. Last week I had a bone scan and was told I also have osteoporosis. I take 10 different meds a day( asthma, thyroid, high blood pressure, hot flashes, ibs, gird, and lupus) and am so tired of it all. Is it possible to have all 3 (Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis) and if so, is it common?
Avatar n tn It would be unlikely for osteoarthritis to present with this many symptoms. You may want to look at a more systemic disorder - including rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus or other rheumatological disease. Blood tests looking at the ANA level and rheumatoid factor can be considered. Imaging the spine with an MRI can be done to evaluate for any nerve compression. A referral to a rheumatologist can be considered to evaluate for the aforementioned conditions.
Avatar n tn I am currently on Prolia Osteoarthritis and will start Rhemicade for Ankylosing Spondylitis. Does anyone else take both of these medications? It seems extreme and the Prolia shot I got today is making me sick, I think.
398377 tn?1201537925 Some of them, yes. Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM found with the "people" meds are fine for dogs. Just make sure to check with your vet on dosages. There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
Avatar f tn was UND at week 4 First blood draw. I go back to the Dr. in Nov. for a for check up. I had osteoarthritis before I began treatment . It was hard some days others was pretty good. Now I am having pain in back and neck. I was sent by my primary Dr., for bone scan. He said it shows 4th 5th. 6th and neck vert. with swelling it bothers me daily. But it is now worse than it was like 5 years ago when I had previous bone scan.
Avatar n tn I came off meds from doctor as it made me feel worse. Lately I found out from my pulmonologist fibromyalgia is a label on a list of symptoms. I spent 12 years with fibromyalgia. I have now discovered that I have been short on cortisol, vitamin B12 and have sleep apnea. There is a reason for you feeling this way, Your doctor needs to help you find the cause of it, not just treat the symptoms. Good luck on your search.
Avatar m tn Is there any help in sight ? I am 38 yr old male - very active & thought very heathy, 6ft 1 5% bfi & gym 3+ days a week. Chronic neck & hip Osteoarthritis & 24-7 pain breaking me down fast - not able to ignore it any longer & otc meds not helping. Surgery not a $$ option at this time. Neck is spured & chunchy & pretty much killing me - Hip is very narrowed & full of cysts. I guess I am asking... what can I do ?
Avatar n tn He told me I was headed for a stroke or heart attack and to quite all my meds til my blood pressure came down. Boy was I pissed at my docs wife. She kept telling me to relax and have a friken cup of tea, meanwhile I was jumping out of my skin. The only complaint I had when I went to see my doc before he increased my synthroid was that I was feeling a little more tired than usual.
Avatar m tn For some background I am a 3rd year pharmacy student and know what the surgeon is saying as I have learned about all of this stuff in school. So, I suspect that I don't have RA and maybe it is just osteoarthritis albeit at a very young age. However, RA is a tricky disease and it could be a possibility. I just want to hear y'alls' (that certainly gives away what region I am from ha) opinions on my situation just to get some feedback.
897749 tn?1241764082 My doctor wants me off the Oxycontin but I was afraid to change without a waiting period but I don't want to wait so long I can't walk. I have Osteoarthritis,Fibromyalgia as well as Osteoporosis to deal with.
6452367 tn?1430948192 I want totally off these meds. I need to know how to start tapering down off these meds??
Avatar f tn The CDC has seen fit to issue very restrictive guidelines that will focus on keeping most pain patients off opioid meds or at 50 mgg equivalent morphine per day - 90 mg at the extreme limit, and only for a very restricted patient list. So those of us that are around 200 mg equivalent morphine per day, such as yourself and myself, we will find our doctors leaving us since the higher dosages are no longer tolerated and most pain clinics are falling in line with the CDC.
Avatar f tn They're MUCH more versed in these meds, (and some non-pharmaceutical options as well if I recall correctly). I've asked for advice over there myself and they are VERY helpful and knowledgeable. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Pain-Management/show/53 You may want to mention to them that dysautonomia is often paired with neuropathy, as that may help them to weigh different options of what may work on your pain. Have your doctors told you whether they think the pain is neuropathic in nature?
Avatar f tn Please, anyone, have any of you had this situation happen to them? Does my body just eat up pain meds and spit them out? What's up with this? Hopefully someone of all the group here has had a similar situation. I'm desparate for some educated (people living with constant pain) information about why my body doesn't seem to go along with these meds as I'd hoped for. Sorry about the long diatribe, but I really, really need some answers from others who live with this.
Avatar m tn Justy one tablet a day is all that is needed until you are tested but take it at night and not with your T4 med. The same applies to any other vitamins and meds. Do not take any other meds until an hour has passed with the thyroxin. So if you are on any heart meds (like I am ) take them first then your thyroxin an hour later.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has found any successful arthritis meds for senior dogs other than the rx rimadyl? My vet said that I could give mine 1/2 tab of aspirin a day.I don't know how effective that will be. I am just worrying about her kidneys/liver because she will be 14 years in April. She's a mixed border collie/chow chow weighing 75#. She's, also, my first "child" and loved so much. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
