Osteoarthritis hip cycling

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis hip cycling

Avatar m tn The pain started out as a sharp sudden pain if I moved the wrong way mostly involving hip flexion and rotation. Cycling was not painful at all. I was being treated for a groin pull and was told that it was OK to to continue with my routine of cycling around 225 miles a week. I did 8 weeks of physical therapy which helped with range of motion. The sharp sudden pain subsided but now has been replaced with a dull ache in the groin.
Avatar n tn I was just diagnoised with a labral tear of my right hip, was not told exactly where but was told by my orthopedic that I had to go to another specialist that does the arthroscopic surgery. I have been dealing with my hip pain for over 3 years and was always told it was from bursitis until I found this doctor that finally diagnoised me with my tear.
Avatar m tn Hello to all, I have done MRI last month and seems that I have osteophytes at the top of my left hip, that is caused by Osteoarthritis. The problem is that i had the pain for almost a year, however the doctor did not notice anything and sent me for physiotherapy... Now i decided to do x-rays and mri with the results above shown. I used to be very active – from 10 years old playing soccer and basketball, now I am (or rather was) playing soccer in a team.

587778 tn?1261400718 I know that swelling and pain accompanies osteoarthritis, but the doctor said that it was mild and that I can continue to exercise (Cycling). It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
Avatar f tn Four years ago I was dx with osteoarthritis of both knees. Dr. said that I was walking "bone on bone" and that eventually I'd probably need tkr in both knees. He advised using glucosamine chondroitin which I've done and for awhile it seemed to help. I was able to increase my exercise a bit and was walking more with less pain and swelling. In the past few months pain and swelling has increased which I attributed to less exercise and some weight gain, about 4 or 5 pounds.
Avatar f tn But my right leg is a little bit shorter than the left leg, and the muscles in my right thigh are smaller and somewhat atrophied compared to the muscles in m left leg. My x-rays show some early osteoarthritis in my right hip, and my right hip is pretty deformed and flattened out on top. I struggle to remain active. I too enjoy working out - weight lifting, hiking, cycling, etc - but it can be pretty difficult to do on some days.
Avatar m tn Of interest is an analysis of studies looking at glucosamine or chondroitin for osteoarthritis in the hip or knee did not show that these supplements slow joint destruction or relieve pain. Just be cautious - these supplements are reportedly not controlling any joint damage or deterioration that may be occurring. You will find the sites that sell these supplements raving about their healing powers - but you won't find that on medical sites.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. What kind of exercise can I do? I need to lose about 25 lbs. and I was walking but now I'm not sure if that is good for me.

Avatar n tn Hi Dear Synvisc is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis (OA). It is approved for those patients who do not get adequate relief from painkillers such as acetaminophen, or from exercise and physical therapy. Synvisc is injected directly into the joint to restore the lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. The therapy is generally well tolerated. However, it may not work for everyone.

Avatar f tn Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. You have mentioned that you have pain on kneeling down that is in extreme flexion. This suggests that it might be due to either meniscus injury or due Patello-femoral disorder. The location of pain says that it might be due to meniscus problem. When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Do you experience any grinding, locking, catching, or giving way of the knee?
Avatar n tn I hobble and my leg muscles are noticibly smaller, to the point friends and family mention it. MRIs of spine, hip and knee show nothing, and steroid epidurals gave minimal relief. I've posted a question to the doctor in hopes he will guide me on how best to "bother" my local doctors in digging deeper for a diagnosis and CURE. If I ever get answers, I'll be sure to let y'all know. In the meantime, keep looking because if we have the same thing, it will only get worse.
Avatar n tn bone graph was taken from my left hip, doctor takes from the hip because theres plenty of bone to use for graphing. the hip feels like a really bad charlie horse. i feel like an old man walking around, it's a little difficult turning around in bed. i've found stuffing 2 pillows into 1 pillow case works better 4 me to rest my arm, last night i had a fever of 100.6, fingers very swollen, and exposed fore arm very red. i called the Docs office around 7:30pm.

Avatar n tn When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Grinding is characteristic of osteoarthritis; locking and catching are characteristic of meniscus injuries and osteochondritis dissecans (meniscus injuries are much more common than osteochondritis dissecans); and giving way is more characteristic of ligamentous injuries. Are there any positions that make your knee more or less comfortable?
Avatar n tn I get ligament problems in my feet, achillies and knees and I thihnk sometimes my hip pain is more tendon that joint pain. I had physio thereapy to teach me how to walk in a way that did not make certain joints worse and to strengthen some muscles to reduce the strain. I had inserts made for my shoes which where great although I didn't continue my prescription for them as I also have ADHD and I'm rubbish at doing important things like that. The therapy helped a lot but I still have pain.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed w/ a slipped disc about 2yrs ago, but it only gave me problems w/ my left hip (maybe til now!). Some of you mentioned B deficiency, but I've actually been OD-ing lately on B vitamins w/ energy bars & drinks. Seems to affect all ages, all types. I'm going to my doctor this week to try to get some answers & will let you know what happens. Thanks for listening!
Avatar n tn I doubt this is related, but I have some sort of muscle strain in my hip/groin area that is possible due to an intense backpacking trip in October. Any feedback appreciated. Guess I could consult dr. after Xmas if still going on . . . but it's vague and one of those deals like when your car won't act up for the mechanic.
Avatar n tn I feel like my muscles are giving out on me. I have had to quit exercise because of bursitis in my hip and a problem with a rotator cuff. I am only 53 and don't want to feel like this .
Avatar n tn Along with this I just started (two weeks ago) right Iliac Crest pain. Not sure what to do about that. I did use my own bone for this surgery. The hip pain is just another in the whole thing. Why has it started after about 4 months? I am a smoker but am on Wellbutrin to quit ad my Neuro says this may help. Any help would be appreciated.

Avatar f tn For me it's diagnosed as muscle spasms- they are visisble and can't usually be felt from the outside, it's mostly in hip and groin area, sometimes down thigh. I used to take skelaxin, and now i'm on flexiril, both worked. I also get it in my bowels (which was very hard to pinpoint because they area actually changes sometimes. I have IBS and endometriosis, so some people think that contributes. For the bowel problems I take amitriptyline and a great small bowel relaxer-hyoscycamine.
