203342 tn?1328740807 He had all the things you said your dog has, weak back legs, couldn't walk, had trouble going up and down stairs, panting, barking over nothing, lost his eye sight, couldn't hear, funny noises while sleeping, all of it. He got a bad eye infection that required surgery. After surgery he did not fully recover. He just couldn't breathe and it got worse. He was put down on July 21. It's still hard to think about, he was such a healthy puppy and young dog.
Avatar f tn he used to very active and now he lays all the time. he can still walk and gets up to go outside and gets up to eat. but i can tell its bothering him. i have had a couple friends tell me that it looks like he has hip dysplasia, but i cant afford to take him to the vet to get him checked out. i have looked up hip dysplasia online and it says it genetic but his father is in great shape, as far as i know his mother was also in great shape. his brother as well has no problems.
1519952 tn?1291097445 I am learning more and more and am so grateful for this site. I have read both of your comments and appreciate everything you have wrote. I have written Dr. Carol Osbourne and she suggested Melatonin and Deprinyl. I was lucky enought to find the Melatonin. Keeping our fingers crossed. Then my mission tomorrow is to find the Deprinyl. And Deadgamegrrl I think we are going to try the Rescue Remedy if these don't work.
Avatar f tn Just got home, got something to eat, fed my dog, and feel pretty good. Hope your day went well. Fill me in when you can. Thanks for all you help. Love always.
Avatar n tn On other days she lets me carry her outside and seems to enjoy laying in the sun. My vet says that when a dog stops eating she is ready to die. My dog Penny still eats just fine but I worry everyday about her condition and how much she maybe suffering. Many people who have seen her limping so badly have told me I was being selfish for not putting her to sleep. I don't know what to do. Is eating the only sign I should look for?
Avatar f tn Wow, you don't often hear about many who will adopt a senior dog. Sounds like age is taking it's course and you are managing as best you can. I am sure you know these issues will only progress. Hard to make these decisions but I feel it often comes down to a quality of life issue. You know the dog best and if she is in pain. I think you will know when it is time. Truly, sometimes this is can be the last act of love we can do for them. My hat is off to you.
790669 tn?1465192699 My mom who has the worst back of anyone I know (she has scoliosis, Degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis) was getting the shots in her back and they wasn't working. Her Dr. did some kind of surgery where they cleared out a lot of arthritis on his L2-3 and 4. She's feeling better thank goodness. She's also in physical therapy. It's been so hectic dealing with all of this. We lost Boogie right after Brian started hurting and that pain hasn't left me yet.
1770280 tn?1314588560 My diet still consists of vitamins and supplements and I eat healthy most of the time ... and yes, I drink wine and beer which is supposed to be prohibited because I take meds for High BP, Thyroid and Cholesterol ... The purpose of life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave with a well-preserved body, but rather to Slide in Sideways, completely used up, yelling and screaming, what a ride! — Author Unknown And I'm doing my best!
433485 tn?1321816990 I think the slippery elm will help because when my dog was alive she had liver disease and nausea and I would give her the slippery elm 3 x a day with warm chicken broth and it made a difference. Anyway the oxy, I'm on 10 mg, definitely makes a difference but most drs won't prescribe it for gastritis.
Avatar n tn My mother is 81 and has serious health problems, but we are fortunate that her bone pain on most days is tolerable, though some days unbearable, she still gets out, drives, takes care of her garden, loves to cook, take care of her dog. And all of this with bone, breast and liver cancer. Yes some days are a wash out, but usually the next day she regains her strength and she gets back up and continues to live each day.
Avatar n tn Read the earlier posts, some paitents have had severe mood changes on this drug, no matter how thin you may get, your mind is more important. Call your doctor and please be careful.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with arthritis in my knees more than 15 years ago and now within the past 8 years my hips and lower back have added to my constant fatigue, pain and sleeplessness. What can I do, what should I be saying exactly to my doctors, what tests should I ask for?
329994 tn?1301666848 I'm hoping after my B12 goes up, maybe I won't need the topamax anymore or maybe even my anti depressant too. That'll be 3 less pills a day and that is worth it!! I hope your struggles get easier too and if your doctor hasn't already, I strongly suggest getting your B12 checked also. A good sign is to check your fingernails. If they have ridges and most of your moons are gone, it's a good indicator!! I only have moons left on my thumbs.
476246 tn?1418874514 I use massage, and heat and icepacks. If your doc says it's ok to take an antiinflammatory do, but these and all pain meds are dependant on what stage/grade your liver is at, as to the wisdom of taking them. From my years doing physical therapy: hydration is key, I disagree with coffee drinking it removes essential minerals crucial to cellular and cartilage maintanence.
1481358 tn?1288298691 Just get through today and trust that you'll be a bit happier tomorrow, and walk with your head held up high because you'll have been clean for 28 days tomorrow!! Good for you!
544292 tn?1268886268 ***Talk to your Doc, or a new Doc, Explain what you're trying to do and why (so many of your were jut brilliant at that in your posts). Often even a Doc you've f***ed over before will work with you if they see you're sincere; tell him/her you'll come by daily to pick up that day's meds for the taper. It's a pain, but it demonstrates your sincerety to both the Doc and yourself. 4)Though you're tired of hearing it, once you're done with being so sick, get yourself to NA.
1720588 tn?1309461179 i even got my room cleaned as well and took care of the dog. the only bad part of my day is having hot and cold flashes and have no clue why i am. i wish they would just go away.
Avatar n tn I can tell you this I dont have cats and live a crazy life so I dont think its any of that. So cat lovers your safe. Keep the litter box clean and hug your kittys.
398377 tn?1201537925 Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
Avatar n tn What i normally do is grasp the hip joint by the muscle when i am getting up and funny enough it helps me to up and move. But your answer made me go in my fridge and i do believe in your answer 100%. Simply because i went to Cali in 2010 i think it was and i bought a supplement called Irwin Naturals 3-in-1 joint formula which Rebuilds Lubricates and soothes and its only now i realized the bottle is empty and i never did replenish it.
Avatar m tn Even over the last few months, I spent so much time inside that my Vitamin D levels were really low and many times, I couldn't even take my dog for a walk around the block or had a difficult time doing grocery shopping. Lately, it's been bad for about the last 5 months and is showing no signs of improvement.
1626306 tn?1302487106 You gotta have faith. You need to focus on your recovery and your healing more than anything else. Gather as much support as you can for this! Do not fall into the trap of staying too close to your condition and symptoms. I know it is easier said than done. But I've been there personally, and I know there's a way. Probably somewhere in the past your intestinal walls got compromised. Leaky gut syndrome is suspect! It does not matter what medical doctors are able to diagnose or not.
488264 tn?1226523907 After reading the initial post I read through some of your other posts and saw how all over the place you are. You have said that you have mis taken your medication and that all you care about is sleeping and taking your pills. That your life revolves around when you can take your pills. Then you are upset that a Dr. has shown his concerns that you may have a problem. Seems you thought yourself that you could have a problem. And you are all over the place for things you do not have.
Avatar f tn My 9 year old dog has had 2 knee surgeries and 2 ACL/menicus surgeries. I used to feed her solid gold, but switched to Natural Choice for Seniors. It has both chronditin and glucosomine in it, so I don't have to give her pills. She loves it!
1295500 tn?1272463527 However if you are giving Glucosamine supplements to her, for a 90lb dog 500mg is probably not enough. It is the dose I give mine, and she is a 28lb dog. Yours may need 1000 or even more mg Glucosamine daily. The safest thing to do about that is have a word with your vet about it, if you are unsure. I honestly did find it worked well for my dog, very quickly and very efficiently. But all dogs are not the same.
931217 tn?1283484935 Neutering involves removing the source of the hormones that control reproduction and that determine the typical physical and behavioral characteristics that distinguish males and females. In dogs and cats, this is usually done by surgically removing the testicles in males (castration) and the ovaries in females (spaying). In the United States, the uterus is typically removed along with the ovaries in females, and virtually all dogs and cats are spayed or castrated.
Avatar f tn Try to take the time to research on the Net the conditions your dog is dealing with, possible treatments, prognosis, etc. whatever your decision, it will be the right one for your dog and for you. Wish I could be of more help. Give yourself a couple of days to step away from this as you are overwhelmed right now. Good luck. Please update.
Avatar n tn This is a dog that was a typical JRT..Hyper and a jumper.. It is so sad to see her basically having to bne carried around. I have read articles recently on Vitamin C dificiency and the effect on collagen..Given the mystery with our dog...Is it worth a try to start her on Vit C supplement? Is there such a thing as Scurvy in dogs? She is having surgery for her hind legs ..but now we are concerned that she has some type of metabolic problem that makes her a high risk for surgery...
230948 tn?1235847929 I believe that I had fibro all of my life and in the eighties something triggered it to get much worse and did so for about 18 years and then I left my life and went on my own and for five years I was doing well and then it was downhill after I had a very major operation....where I lost a lot of muscle due to all of the steroids and antibiotics I was on for a month...... then this year (4 yrs. after the operation)......it has been downright painful but not only due to fibro, due to aging.....
Avatar n tn took me a while to understand that I only had symptoms in the winter. My cure? Hot showers and regular workouts.. and do your best to never feel cold.. the first time you really go for a hot shower or workout.. get ready for the pain, but thats a good feeling for me now as I understand that when I get those pin pricks, if you ride it out, is basically the cure for this. Its a constant issue but I hardly think about it anymore.
