Osteoarthritis and quality of life

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and quality of life

Avatar m tn To some degree, doctors can point out areas of arthritic degeneration on many peoples' spines... Largely due to the fact that so many patients neglect their spinal health for so long. Chiropractic care can't reverse your arthritis, but adjustments can help ease pain associated with muscle tension, tissue inflammation, swelling, and spinal misalignment. It would be more about quality of life than "treatment" of your condition.
Avatar m tn I went last month to the RA for joint pain (just about all of them hurt BAD seems) Any ways he asked which was affecting my quality of life the worse I said knees so we started there. Scans so bone on bone osteoarthritis. He told me I need total knee replacements in both knees :/ I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!!
2137079 tn?1335987132 I have to say I can sympathize with you as I am experiencing less than great quality of life after only one round of triple tx that was unsuccessful. I'm contemplating doing battle again but not with interferon. The fact that you completed three rounds in five years is a testament to your strength and determination. Sometimes I feel really P.O.'d about everything I have put my mind and body through only to be told I may be suffering from depression?!
1175033 tn?1492204828 I've had rheumatoid arthritis since age 5 and have had both hips replaced - obviously for a different reason from yours, but it really did improve my quality of life. One of my cousin's daughters had the hip deformity from birth as well, and spent much of her babyhood in a huge cast. She took ballet which I think helped stave off the inevitable, but she too will eventually need implants. It's very possible that your hip deformity is the source of your other aches and pains.
1459410 tn?1285698605 I can no longer work and my quality of life has really changed. I'm still processing it and still trying to learn new ways to do things. You use your hands for everything; so it's been had for me to adapt. I also use a special compounding cream and lidoderm patches. My medication list is long and the dosages are high. @SurgiMenopause, I can't imagine having it in my jaw! I imagine, like me, movement/motion makes it worse but if you don't move it at all, it would just stiffen up.
Avatar m tn according to some orthopedicians tkr is the only answer but i am hesitant. what my case looks like and is there any scope of improvement? if yes please advise.

Avatar f tn But, since he's discovered the issues, it doesn't appear there IS a light at the end of the tunnel...at least not soon anyway. I'm miserable, my quality of life has decreased, and I just cannot fathom living like this forever. I'm having myself a little pity party over here is all. I need to find stuff that works to relieve the pain. I've tried pretty much everything...
Avatar m tn I believe the osteo arthritis can be scraped off, and the ACL, PCL, meniscus and cartilage can be replaced as needed in my natural knee, giving me much better quality of life without replacing the entire knee. Please, does anyone know of any studies, trials, procedures, or well- established providers who might help me with this? I am 70% service disabled. At age 56 I do not want to go through TKR, I'd like to fix what I have before it gets any worse.
Avatar f tn for my knee and I have a torn PCL and also a labral hip tear and ligament damage. I had surgery on the hip and its better. My real problem is I have no quality of life anymore. I can't stand without pulling myself up using something to support me. I am in constant pain in my lower back. Steroid Injections only lasted 3 months. I now have agonizing pain in my neck. From the length of my neck to where it meets my back and that's where it really hurts.
Avatar n tn being out in the fresh air and sunshine did my outlook on life a lot of good. the aching and pins and needles were quite bad that nite though. oh well, i got through it and am still here. i pray that you are doing well and hope to hear from you soon.
Avatar m tn Treatment methods should be focused on pain relief and maintaining quality of life..Although slow, usually these conservative treatments relieve pain. REFER http://www.springerlink.
Avatar f tn I know that every doctor is not capable or has the desire to treat patients with complicated illnesses but after 12 years of being undiagnosed and suffering and hearing so many other stories of others living the same hell I wish that the doctors that do believe us could come up with some system of sending us to the doctors who are willing to help us. There is a better system in place for dating services in both quanity and quality.
931217 tn?1283484935 Today's popular press often extols the supposed virtues of more "natural" ways of living, and approaching illness. There are a wide variety of theories and modalities, that together make up the broad category known as "complementary and alternative medicine (and veterinary medicine)." These approaches to health and disease are not monolithic and therefore their merits or lack thereof cannot be discussed as a category. Each must be examined alone.
Avatar f tn I am starting to warm up to the idea about going to see a doctor because the quality of my life just *****. I have been dealing with this for a long time, and I just want to feel normal again. I would just like some type of idea of what I am dealing with before going to the doctors.
Avatar f tn Most of them recounted more peace, bliss and love than they had ever felt in their life. And most of them said that a loved one beckoned to them. But at this point as I recounted it, she for the first time asked me if the people were real. I said, YES, and went on about it. Then she stopped crying, got a big smile on her face that lasted a long time. Then she died the next day. You told your mother the same kind of thing and showed your love with your tears.
Avatar n tn All we can do is accept that we are aging, take care of our skin and bodies and realize that we had our youth and now we have the other half of our life, our aging part. I choose to enjoy it and TRY not to worry about my skin (that is a tall order for me!) because I don't want to waste a minute of my life. I want to enjoy all that I have and all that I am for the rest of my life. It's a totally different mind set and not an easy one, but I believe I'm getting there. Ahhh...
Avatar f tn I know I am taking a risk but this was a quality of life issue for me and it's my decision with no regrets. I wish you all the best as you make your decisions. And, strange as it may seem, keep a journal of how you feel each day so you have an idea of whats changed and it will help you to know why. And you know you can always try it and see how you feel.
Avatar f tn This has been going on for many, many years and it really upsets me and affects my quality of life. I had a CT scan of my brain recently which states that there is suggestion or irregularity to pineal calcification with a small cystic component (suboptimal assessment in this thick section series). The entire calcific and cystic area approximately measures 1.5cm x .9cm in AP and transverse diameter. This is thought most likely an incidental finding. No mass effect.
Avatar f tn What quality of life do you have now Ali??? Has it gotten any better at all??
Avatar f tn But, at the same time, I do not want to prevent my mother to have good quality of life (I do actually think that PD was limiting her life a lot). So I would like to ask you about the options Azilect/Sinemet. To your knowledge, or in your experience, does it make sense to start Sinemet in an old person, even if her symptoms are not very severe? Would it Azilect a better option? any insights about risks of interactions with antidepressants?
691233 tn?1228734020 I am looking for something more permanent than all these temporary fixes that hardly work and only last 1-3 days if that. My quality of life is in the toilet. I can't lift or bend without paying a steep price for the next few days. I am always irritable and just want to be left alone. Please help.
Avatar f tn Myofascial pain can add to the already annoying symptoms of fibromyalgia, and can contribute to disability and a poor quality of life if not diagnosed properly. I have had fibro for years and most likely also have MPS as well although not diagnosed. I rarely go to a doctor. Many now say that fibromyalgia is a nerve disorder. The other one I previously mentioned tends to deal more with the muscles and they tend to be comorbid conditions.
2126606 tn?1346348724 Opioid-induced hyperalgesia is a condition where the increased use of opiates, like Oxycontin and hydrocodone, heightens one's sensitivity to discomfort and reduces their tolerance for pain. Essentially, people will increase the amount of painkillers they are taking as their discomfort continues to escalate, but the added medication can actually make their pain worse.
Avatar f tn I chose to start taking it again because of the quality of life that I have while taking it is one of functionality, which I think is absent in cases of extreme pain as well as cases of addiction.
Avatar n tn It scares me, especially since my husband had brain surgery less than 2 years ago- (symptoms completely different of course) I am 35 years old, the only time I remember hitting my head really hard is when I was in elementary school and I fell and hit my head on a tile floor. I have had a history of passing out and having seizures but the doctors never figured out for sure what caused it and it hasn't happened for a few years.
Avatar n tn I am on a soft diet for the rest of my life due to osteoarthritis in my jaws and TMJ issues myself. I looked up dyspraxia and now wonder if a close relative of mine should have been diagnosed with it, born early, who had trouble with motor planning & not knowing where she was in space. Temple pain can stem from TMJ trouble, especially if you are a clencher or grinder (teeth). It can even lead to migraines.
Avatar n tn I have been depressed (even though I am at one of the best points of my life) and I don't know what to do about it. I have been told a slue of different things from various doctors and all of them have not worked. If anyone has any type of advice or suggestions please let me know!! I will try anything!
Avatar m tn In this study we assess the frequency and intensity of pain, as well as its impact on the quality of life and activities of daily living, in a sample of MS patients. Methods One hundred and twenty eight MS patients underwent a neurological examination, a structured interview designed to assess pain, and a Medical Outcome 36-item Short Form Health Survey. Functional status was assessed by means of the Barthel Index (BI) and Rivermead Mobility Index.
Avatar n tn After 3 days, he came back from to life, left the hospital and was the happy healthy man we knew and loved. There was no sign of congestive heart failure and we asked the dr if the lipitor caused it as it was the only new thing he had been on for the previous 9 months. He plays golf and is now 94.
