Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and naproxen

513154 tn?1340228889 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!

Avatar f tn Plus the whole thing has bought my hot flashes back after 2 yrs free . I'v been subscribed Naproxen and Amitrypline. We're due to go on a 9hr plane journey next week and I'm not really looking forward to it ! Has anyone got any suggestions please?
Avatar f tn It has been so very very depressing and I find it hard some days to go on. I am 7 weeks post-op and saw my surgeon today. He said my knee is very very bad and, at 12 weeks post-op, we'll be gearing up for my second, and much more invasive, surgery. I have many areas of exposed bone but, because of my age, my surgeon will not consider a knee replacement. I am in a severe amount of pain daily. I had been taking norco since the surgery but am going to try a break from those.
Avatar m tn They sent me to an Orthopedic and Then they performed an MRI and perscribed Anti-Inflamatories (Naproxen) and pain relievers. The Orthopedic ended up telling me that everything seemed fine in my knee and there was no reason why it should be swoolen but he couldn't continue helping me because i had no fracture or torn anything. After a couple of weeks it reduced in inflamation dramatically and for a while everything seemed fine. that is, untill now.
Avatar n tn It hurts mostly when I walk or put pressure on it. Resting my leg and taking naproxen and ibprofen to reduce inflammation does not seem to be healing it. Is it possible that this injury will require surgery? What should I do?
369861 tn?1306279286 This all started with my potassium being low and being hypoglycemic. The endo doctor took me off all diuretics so that i could take the renin and aldesterone tests. Does the potassium have anything to do with the thyroid and why did the endo take me off all diuretics to take the two tests. Doesn't he realise that my body would retaing the water and the result of edema? Just wondering?

Avatar f tn I have severe fibromyalgia pain as well as cervical dystonia, degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis. I tried many medications from Lyrica to strong opiates, but the side effects always outweighed the benefits or else they just were not effective. I never had a problem with addiction and at 5' and 100 lbs., I don't want to lose weight.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
Avatar n tn So far my diagnosis include degenerative facet and disc diseases, osteoarthritis, spondylosis grade1, some bone loss, and now this scar tissue build up. I am also curious as how bad this scar tissue has to be to show up on a regular X-ray. I thought soft tissue wasn't detected on X-rays. I am inquiring as to what my options are?
Avatar f tn I've been through a horrible time with both of my hands, with osteoarthritis in the basal thumb joints causing really significant pain and loss of functioning in both hands. I basically de-evolved into a mammal without one of our greatest advancements: opposable thumbs. This problem reached a crisis point three years ago but I was also about to begin my third attempt at tx to eradicate the virus. Having done tx twice before, I knew better than to try joint replacement surgery while on tx.
Avatar f tn told him the meds weren't working and could he call me in something that would and he said to just continue taking the naproxen which wasn't working and was tearing up my stomach! I will be looking for someone to amputate my feet- I cannot stand this pain and if a Dr is going to let me suffer this much then I just want them removed.
Avatar f tn now I have pain under my right and left shoulder blades and tips of right and left shoulders, and in my chest ( middle, right and left chest). I told the gastroenterologist about the new symptoms and she told me to take CT scans immediately to check my abdominal and pelvis areas. Yesterday I took the tests and I got the results back today.
Avatar f tn She gave me naproxen which I cannot take. What else can cause this and is NSAIDs the only line of treatment. Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn The pain started after I took Naproxen 500mg (twice a day) for four days for the joint and muscle pain that I have in my hands and arms. My PCP thought that the pain was from taking the medicne ( =side effects )which probably casued acute gastritis. She prescribed me Ranitidin. By taking the medicine, the burning pain in my stomach was gone. However, I still had dull pain in the middle, left and right upper abdominal areas.
Avatar n tn if structural defects and osteoarthritis (and other inflammatory arthritides) are ruled out by your doctor then it could be a torqued sacrum, up slipped sacroiliac joint, inflared or outflared ilium, greater trochanter bursitis, iliopsoas contracture, or even referred pain from your low back. The most common overlooked cause is iliopsoas contracture! This muscle attaches to your low back and comes forward through your abdomen in front of your hip to attach to the top front of your femur.

Avatar n tn He has seen no blood in the past two days. He suffers from angina and osteoarthritis and takes Hydrocodone, Lisinipril, Terazosin, Furosemide. He was taking Omeprazole but stopped taking that thinking that might be the cause of a bitter taste, loss of appetite and nausea. He recently stopped taking Naproxen. Should he be on all this medication and could some of it be causing these problems?
Avatar f tn Yes, relafen can be used to help with osteoarthritis. Discuss it with your doctor and talk about using it in conjunction with something else to help manage the pain.
Avatar f tn This can happen with infections and inflammations. The other causes are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Arthritis or bursitis can produce pain in the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Bursa are sac like structures above and below the joints which helps in the movement of the tendons around the joints. These can get inflamed causing bursitis. I would advise you to consult your primary care physician for evaluation of pain.
Avatar f tn Your mother should be evaluated for osteoarthritis; common risk factors are age over 50, and female gender. Your mother should discuss physical or occupational therapy with her doctor. It might also be helpful for you mother to start an exercise program, to improve function of the knee. She should talk with her doctor prior to starting any new exercise program.
Avatar f tn I was not able to move my neck at all at first, and had pain and tingling down my arm, and a stabbing pain in my shoulder blade. Worst of all was the vertigo and head pressure. CT's showed no bulging discs. Muscle relaxers have helped, but the pressure in my head never went away and is becoming maddening. The pain comes and goes, but the pressure is persistent. The pain radiates through my face, and down my arm and back.
