7831604 tn?1399711007 They had me monitor my blood sugar with a glucometer for two weeks and record my sugars when I woke up and two hours after each meal. When I went back they decided I could just do diet control and be fine. If yours is worse they might put you on medicine or insulin. But I think most doctors use insulin as a last resort.
Avatar f tn Hello, the most effective diet for controlling diabetes is one that is low carb, moderate protein, and high in healthy fats. You can look up paleo (their approach is quite diabetes friendly), or mediterannean (though you may want to reduce the bread, past, etc).
1230422 tn?1301923560 Does anyone know how to set up a carb exchange diet? I used to follow one but that was over 20 years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
451075 tn?1210258648 The thing is, if you go back to your regular way of eating, chances are very good you will regain those 4-5 pounds in no time. I love eating low-carb. I've done it on and off for several years. It keeps me away from things that 'sound' healthy for me, like whole wheat crackers, which I might as well staple to my belly for all the good they do me! I recently had my cholesterol checked and my numbers were terrific. And I actually feel better eating low-carb!
1090423 tn?1286287650 pototes etc stuff that is white, read everything you eat to see how many cards are in it , they turn to sugar, dont use diet sugars/drinks that diet sugar makes your sugar go up. try and eat lots wheat. no white bread etc.
Avatar f tn During those 2 weeks I had to eat a certain diet which consisted of 3 carbs for breakfast, 1 carb for an A.M snack, 4 carbs for lunch, 1 carb for P.M snack, 4 carbs for dinner and 2 carbs for evening snack...of course i also had to eat proteins and veggies as well included with the carbs..... It was actually alot of food too eat and didn't get everything in everyday. I also had to test my blood 4 times a day and check my keytones, which is the peeing on a stick thing.
Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar n tn Okay, we're now about 5 days into learning that our daughter is diabetic. So really any info at this time is going to be greatly appreciated. Some of our most immediate concerns revolve around diet. We fully understand how to do the calculations we need, how to check labels, really most of the basics. But we are also trying to find resources that are a little more specific as to snacks that are no-carb, low-carb.
988694 tn?1332359479 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.
Avatar m tn Hi, here is the latest recommendation on low carb diet. I also follow a low carb diet and find it very effective (when I follow it). I do my best to avoid grains, and also eat very little fruit. Mostly non-starchy veges, and meats. http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/articles/diabetes-news/17323-why-a-low-carb-diet-should-be-the-first-approach-in-diabetes-treatment http://www.diabetesincontrol.
11634465 tn?1421827735 Also forgot to add, the low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet will help with reducing pain and improve mobility for your exercising. You will be amazed at how elimination of grains from your diet will help reduce inflammation, which leads to the pain and mobility issues you are experiencing. Try it for one week...you will be amazed at results. Good luck.
1301089 tn?1290666571 After two years, there was no major differences between diet groups, except in good cholesterol. Why the low-carb diet had a bigger effect on good cholesterol isn't known, the researchers said. As low-carb plans became popular, experts feared the diet would drive up the risk of heart disease because it allows more fat. The latest results suggest those concerns are unfounded, Foster said.
6990909 tn?1435275816 I do the low fat, low carb, minimal dairy, no sugar diet right now. What kind of fats are they talking about? The treatments (Humira, Methotrexate, ect) are the same for RA and PsA so Im thinking dietary treatment may be similar. In terms of supplements, I do the high doses of Tumeric and Krill oil.
Avatar n tn Metformin and follow a low carb diet then I will be most likely free from any Diabetic complications for the next 5 to 10 years or even longer. The majority of 65 plus years old American have their A1c much higher then yours.
Avatar n tn I am following the adtkins diet right now. I have lowered my carb intake and only get them from veggies. I am eating alot of chicken.
1401296 tn?1280799533 however, my feeling is that your body needs all of the food groups, so by cutting out carbs, you could be depriving your body of necessary nutrients, etc. If you do go on a carb free diet and lose weight, most likely, you will gain it back if you go off the plan. If you stick with the complex carbs - fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc - and eliminate the simple carbs - such as sugar, white flour, regular pasta, etc, - you should do better. Of course, you still have to limit your portions.
Business woman2 I have heard from several people that low-carb low-sugar diet has great influence on reducing weight and controlling diabetes. What are your thoughts from experience / reading of research studies?
