I've always been active but am focusing on leaning up and building muscle . My diet consists of: Breakfast: 5 egg whites & one yoke fried with olive oil. Half a grapefruit & a half a cup of quinoa with one tablespoon of chia seeds, agave & cinnamon. Lunch & dinner: varies between chicken, fish or ground Turkey. And a side of veggies.

1159480 tn?1263405571 m glad to see some positive talk about the Atkins/lo carb diet. I went on the Atkins diet about 6 years ago. I lost about 50 lbs. Once you get used to it, it's easy. And, I kept the weight off for the 6 years. I only gained back a few pounds when I started eating carbs again. You really get used to not eating alot of bread and sweets and it does not bother you after awhile. Unfortunately, what killed me was menopause. I gave in to the cravings for sweets and gained more weight back.

The hospital I'm at recommends no fruit at breakfast (which is the hardest part for me), I'm not sure that's the same everywhere. I work 10 hr days usually breakfast is at 6 and I don't get lunch till 12; I do snack but I need a filling breakfast, I just need more ideas. Please don't reply if your not following the diet the way you should be.
Avatar n tn Your diet should be low carb to prevent blood sugar spiking. Eggs, meat, salad vegetables, other non-starchy vegetables, cheese, etc. maybe some nuts.....
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.

Avatar n tn I eat breakfast 15 gram carbs, snack 15 grams carb, lunch 60 grams carb, snack 30 grams carb, dinner 60 grams carb, snack 15 grams carb. Its crazy. This is my first pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I think if you eat a VERY low carb diet consistently, you will control your BG levels and you won't have to start on insulin. This is a time where it is SO important to start looking for low carb meals/snacks. Do a lot of research and be your own advocate. Avatar f tn I think JDRF-VOL-SG's suggestions are very good, and would only add that it is common to have a different carb ratio for breakfast than for other meals. That's not only because of the type of food eaten, but because it is mornings when the liver is the most active with dumping glucose into the body. It's called the Dawn Phenomenon. It sounds like you're figuring things out really well, and I'd just suggest adjusting the breakfast carb ratio to see what happens.
Avatar m tn Unlike traditional low carb diets which the authors say usually fail, this diet appears to allow ample carbs for breakfast and then switches to a low-carb regimen for the rest of the day. Personally, I'm thinking of modifying my diet in a similar manner.

Avatar m tn My opinion I would go no higher than 40 total carbs per meal (breakfast lunch and dinner). The lower, the better. replace some carb laden items with protein foods like salmon, chicken. But be watchful that you dont consume too much protein.
