That will tel you a lot about your bodies response to carbohydrates, Like your phase 1 and phase 2 insulin response. Better to know than to worry.
Avatar n tn im needing to find a simple diabetic diet plan. the doctor gave me one but it seems really complicated. does anyone know any good sources for diabetic diet plans?
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar f tn I think there are two types of Weight Watchers plans you can do, the plan where you count points and the one where it is a lower carb diet. Anyways, I gained weight on weight watchers before, when there wasn't the lower carb choice. I am now doign South Beach and have had success this week.
Avatar n tn The big thing is carbohydrate counting so get a carb book. If he takes Humalog insulin, dose would be 1 unit per 10 grams carb. If not, you must watch the simple sugars carefully. Small amounts of fruit are okay and larger amounts can be tolerated after eating protein. However, if he is exercising, then he can get away with eating something like a whole fruit right before exercising (depending on his glucose level) beforehand and the cardio exercise will even it out.
Avatar n tn Hi, I would change my diet to a low carb diet. A lot of news has been coming out about low carb and I am doing low carb. It has really helped me keep my BG down to an acceptable leval. You might try researching the Dr. Bernstein diet for diabetics. It really works and does not affect a person in any bad way. You also do not have to starve yourself on this diet. I eat between 2000 up to 3000 calories a day but those calories are coming from low carb food.
Avatar f tn Low carb no carb diet! It's perfectly safe.

I drink water only and supplement with Glutamine (20 grams a day), Multivitamins, Vitamin C, Fish/Flax seed oil and Chromium. My main question is this: Is this safe?
720656 tn?1311040235 What did the high carb diet look like each day, approx.? My husband has cirrhosis and I think he seems better when on the high carb/low fat diet (beans vegetables fruit and whole grains) but he sure starts missing meat and sugar/fatty foods like ice cream and cherry pie. I feel torn between keeping him alive and keeping him happy.
Avatar f tn If you are looking for information on this you could look at the maintenanbce phase of the Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet (this is mediteranean style eating - but without the bread and pasta), or Diabetes Solutions - Dr. Richard Bernstein. Make sure fats are in their natural form (as in nuts, full fat dairy, meats, avocados, etc). and not manmade - trans fats. Are you able to exercise regularly.
Avatar m tn The 2 hour tells you that your phase 2 pancreas response is doing but says nothing about phase1 efficiency (phase 1 is the first to go then phase 2 then the last to show a problem is the A1c).

7650155 tn?1414371335 This past week I've decided to get serious about my health. I'm 29 years old, 5 feet 7.5 inches tall and about 150 pounds. I've always been active but am focusing on leaning up and building muscle . My diet consists of: Breakfast: 5 egg whites & one yoke fried with olive oil. Half a grapefruit & a half a cup of quinoa with one tablespoon of chia seeds, agave & cinnamon. Lunch & dinner: varies between chicken, fish or ground Turkey. And a side of veggies.
Avatar m tn Low carb diet can affect thyroid levels. Did you also test for the actual thyroid levels along with TSH, If so please post those results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report. The thyroid levels will be more indicative of your status than TSH. Even though doctors like to believe that TSH is a very sensitive indicator of thyroid status, it does not correlate well with either thyroid hormone Free T4 or Free T3.
Avatar m tn For fast weight gain, try protein shakes and specialty foods geared towards bodybuilders in the 'bulking' phase, as well as refined carb-heavy foods like pasta and bread, and high fat snacks like cheese and preserved meats. I also highly reccomend peanut butter. Add three teaspoons of peanut butter a day to your diet and you'll be heavier in a flash.
Avatar n tn "Ketosis is NOT a dangerous." Please reread or talk to a doctor - " During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure." "the two are different things" Not entirely. Ketoacidosis is an increase in fat metabolism because of a shortage of insulin, mostly associated with t1's. Ketosis is an elevated level of ketones.
