Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.
Avatar n tn That said, there are also different sources for diabetic diet plans which you can check out. One is the American Diabetes Association's website (www.diabetes.org), which has plenty of nutritional information, including diet plans and recipes. Here is what they say on their website regarding diet plans for diabetics: " diabetes meal plan is a guide that tells you how much and what kinds of food you can choose to eat at meals and snack times.
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn This can be done by carefully adjusting your insulin doses and combine with eating a low carb diet (the low carb will reduce your insulin requirements and thus also protect you from going too low or high). I recommend the book diabetes solutions by Dr. Richard Bernstein. HE describes how to get excellent control using insulin and lwo carb diet. Even if you don't end up going as low carb as he recommends, you can still use what he teachers and a lower carb approach to get good control.

NOT low fat, high carb any more, but instead low carb, moderate protein and enough fat for energy. This is the approach endorsed by Dr. Richard Berstein (Book: diabetes solutions, and U-tube lecture series "Bernstein Diabetes University") and also many who follow ketogenic or low carb way of eating.
Avatar f tn I had that with my first, I haven't been tested yet with my second. The specialist will help you figure out diet, but the biggest thing was to watch your carbohydrates. They are what converts into sugars. Eat small meals throughout the day instead of 3. Pasta, breads, ice cream, sodas, juices, anything like that will have a high carb count. Take a look at the nutritional information and see how much carbs are in each.
Avatar n tn Many people with diabetes find that a low carb diet (est. 100 g/day) or even a very low carb diet (est 40 - 60g)/day works for them. The carbs come mainly from non-starchy vegetables. You will have to work out by trial and error (using your meter) what works for you. Also you will need to check out how to properly dose both basal and bolus insulin. Look up dr. Richard Bernstein. His book is called diabetes solution.
Avatar n tn If you do fail then you will be put on a low carb diet which isnt bad i had it with my second you will test your blood 4 times a day and log it for your doctor. As long as you keep it diet controlled then you wont have to inject or take anything. If you dont keep it controlled by diet your baby could grow larger and when born its possible to have their sigar drop too low after umbilical cord is cut and theyd be put on a sugar drip.
Avatar f tn If you could completely cut all sugar and basically all grains and not overdo your fruit intake, you would be eating a perfect diet for GD. (and a really awesomely healthy diet in general!
Tbd Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. This diet also includes abundant non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables and plant foods. 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb. This is the plant based and even vegan diet that some are promoting. This diet does not have processed foods.
Avatar n tn Low carb diet is absolutely the best way to manage diabetes. American Diabetes Association is now also recognizing this. By low carb we mean about 20 - 30 g of carbs per day. Protein should be adequate (can be up to 1.5g/ kg body weight), and healthy unprocessed fats (avoid vegetable oils) for energy balance. HEalthy fats include the fats that come with meats and full fat dairy, nuts, avocado etc.
Avatar n tn Hi i just recently read some very recent articles from doctors saying that the atkins diet could be a very good way of eating for diabetics because of the low carb approach that insulin is hardly affected. To me it makes sense cause i wouldn't mind my great aunt who is a diabetic to try the atkins or another low carb diet to help here with her blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn Once you deliver the baby, the gestational diabetes is gone. You SHOULD continue eating on a diabetic diet as it's healthy and you are now at higher risk for Type II diabetes but the only way to detect that is with a blood test.
Avatar n tn Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
8526246 tn?1405601876 For breakfast I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 2 protein, 1 fat. For snack I get 1 fruit (no juice), 1 carb, 1 meat. For lunch I get 1 milk, 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 carb, 3 meat, 2 fat. Afternoon snack I get 1 fruit, 1 carb, 1 protein. For dinner I get 3 veggies, 1 fruit, 3 starch, 4 protein, 3 fat. Bedtime snack I get 1 milk, 1 carb, 1 protein. It's a lot of food. I found salads worked well and I combined a lot of my food that way.
1436324 tn?1283698760 If I could give you some advice, it would be to try to stay off of medication and insulin, if possible. After much reading, the best thing to do is to follow a low carb diet - like Atkins or South Beach. This way you avoid raising your blood sugar and minimizing insulin release and get rid of insulin resistance. The diet is not easy to stick with for many people, though some people are fine with it.
Avatar f tn i would also recommend that you look into lower carb eating (dieticians typically recommend higher carb, but lower carb is also an option, and will make controlling your blood sugar easier). Please come back and tell us how you're going and also ask more questions. We have lot's of experience here between us.
Avatar n tn "Ketosis is NOT a dangerous." Please reread or talk to a doctor - " During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure." "the two are different things" Not entirely. Ketoacidosis is an increase in fat metabolism because of a shortage of insulin, mostly associated with t1's. Ketosis is an elevated level of ketones.
Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
Avatar m tn I heard that some doctors in England put people with diabetes on a 600 calorie a day diet for 8 weeks and when the diet was over the majority of them no longer had diabetes. Why don't we do this here in America?
