Avatar n tn Check nutrition labels on packaged foods, and if you eat out a lot, check with the kitchen as to what is in the food. I got life saving help from the advice of Dr Fuhrman.com. and his book I believe was a God send. I take 10 mg lipitor my Dr says not for the cholesterol lowering but for the anti imflamitory benefits, because my t/ cholesterol is 142 ldl 71, hdl 57, tryg/ 68. God Bless, Brian.
Avatar m tn You can consume alcohol and spicy foods apart from your use of niacin—for example, having a glass of wine at 7 p.m. and then taking niacin at 9 p.m. Only a few people will have more flushing due to the combination.
1495437 tn?1288798915 Your body is known to hypersensitive to Niacin. Flushing, hypotension is known adverse effect of niacin in some individuals. The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction. As for marks are concerned, Hydroquinone cream against prescription plus sun protection can lighten existing lesions.
1135275 tn?1586565652 First speak to your doctor about what I'm recommending!! Get serious about food. Part of this must be to eat a plant-based diet. Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you know anything about heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat.The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease.
Avatar f tn ve been taking 250 mg of Niacin. Based on the previous TSH told me to decrease to 150. The last dosage said to decrease to 125 mcg. Is this weird?
Avatar n tn Is there any type of vitamins/foods I can take to help restore the Optic nerve I recently am on prednisone that seems to help alittle bit but I am trying to find a way to strenthen it? ie: carrots or something to get it back or a little bit better?
475570 tn?1280941363 What do we think about the new colesterol study about the effect of niacin not doing the job?
718651 tn?1237042917 trying to lessen w\d. i've heard people take it and they sweat out toxins in their bodies, and the next day drug tests come back clean,, so i figured it would take pills out of mine.. it does seem to be working,. i am 36 hours into it and feel pretty good...
Avatar f tn Hmmm, that's a reaction I've not seen. My doctor told me that I was getting leg cramps at night (possibly) because of low potassium levels. I take potassium tabs twice a day (to balance out the sodium in my diet, (even though I've been good and cut way back on prepared n fast foods). As was suggested, look for foods your mom likes, which are good sources of potassium. Here's one list I found: http://www.weightlossforall.com/potassium-rich-food.
Avatar m tn Omega 6 fatty acids have the effect of raising LDL levels in the blood. Look for eggs that boast high Omega 3 content. Also, foods high in solubls fiber, as well as insoluble fiber redude blood cholesterol levels by binding with cholesterol in digestion and ushering it out of the body. Oatmeal or high fiber cereals every morning for a few months will have a profound effect.
Avatar n tn Salmon, dark chocolate raise HDL levels. Look for Omega 3 in your foods. For men the HDL is lower than for women. You should try to get your HDL at least in the thirties if not higher. You can ask your doctor about fish oil also. A good multi-B vitamin is good for the heart and nervous system.
1135275 tn?1586565652 i guess an even bigger question is what exactly is the difference between niacin in a capsule and niacin delivered via food? or is there any at all?
Avatar f tn gracias, the info helped me a lot ...i will do some of the things you told me and if i don't see any improvement , i will go to the doc in the next couple of days...it is weird because it goes away sometimes by itself without using anything and doesn't come back in years until now...we will see what happens in the next days...probably as you said i am not drinking enough water, have stress or the niacin stuff. you talked about, i need to check on that..
Avatar m tn You could also ask about Niacin, however recent studies have found that the type of HDL particles created by Niacin are not as effective in removing LDL from your system. You can watch your diet as well, cut out as much processed foods as possible along with empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas and alcohol. Also, stay away from fast foods. I would try this for at least 6 months before starting a statin, especially at your young age.
Avatar f tn I understand what foods to avoid but does anyone know of any foods that help put the disease in remission? THanks in Advance for any tips or comments.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
479244 tn?1271563659 In an attempt and on the recommendation of my np, I am going to start taking B vitamins (liquid, under the tongue). I had heard that niacin was hard on the liver, when I mentioned this to her she said "I haven't heard that".... (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin.
Avatar n tn The issues can be serious depending on the length of time and amounts the supplements were taken. From what you have stated in your question, you are at the upper limits for vitamin C and E, decrease Zinc to 40mg, and suggest not increasing the other doses. You did not state the vitamin Bs you are taking. Vitamin B6 recommended dose for Adult male is 1.3mg a day (upper limit 100mg), and Niacin 16 mg a day (upper limit 35mg).
Avatar n tn s still here after a shower, after putting some water in my ear and knocking it out again, etc. What is this? How long should I wait before going to a doctor?
Avatar m tn Avoid root vegetables.Eat foods rich in potassium.Use low sodium salt in small quantity.Avoid normal salt. Doctors do not give anything that boosts the strength and immunity of a patient. They are dead against nutrition. Please try the following: 1.Amway protein powder and or egg whites 2.Amway Salmon omega fish oil capsules 4 daily 3.Bio E capsules 4 daily 4.Vitamin C 2000 mg daily 5.Niacin NF 2 tablets daily 6.Carnitor(Levocarnitine) tablets 7.Co enzyme Q10(CoQ or Ecozyme) 90 mg daily 6.
