345079 tn?1299202476 I saw my doctor yesterday and she told me I have to take it so she prescribed Niapan which is basically the same thing but in an extended release. However it still states the same side effects (flushing, burning, heart pounding, etc) it says to take at bedtime in hopes you will be asleep when the flushing occurs but it takes me along time to fall asleep.
Avatar n tn But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.Niacin can also raise blood sugar levels in some cases. Taking the drug during or after the meals can help people to develop a tolerance to flushing and to sometimes decrease it. While you are on niacin, the effect of high blood pressure medicines may also be increased.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.
Avatar n tn Timed-release niacin is commonly prescribed to prevent arterioschlerosis. It acts as a mild vasodilator, relaxing the blood vessels and improving the microcirculation. The "fast-acting" niacin causing flushing of the face and sometimes itching. There should be no problems whatsoever with discontinuing niacin "cold-turkey" , nor should there be any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on.
Avatar n tn Yes, but you should always talk to your doctor before starting a supplement. Niacin can have some side effects, it can cause facial flushing which takes some getting used to.

4358817 tn?1353346212 I am not sure if it is due to new stressors, social anxiety, or my medications (Adderall 15XR and Seroquel 50mg @ night). I have been on these two medications for the past three years with no side effects so I am pretty sure that is not the sole cause of my redness. Prior to the past month when this started, when I talked in a large group my face would turn a hint of pink and fade in a few moments.
Avatar f tn The first thing I noticed was a hot flush that worried me (I injested a high initial dose not aware of the flushing side effect), but I then became quite sleepy and went to bed at once.
Avatar f tn re having to go through this. If your shot was Neulasta that is indeed one of the side effects, joint pain. I had it all over my body and it was sometimes crippling but I still went to work. I walked like I was 30 years older than I am because my hips, legs, feet, hands and spine ached like crazy. Even my fingers! The only thing I can say is when you get your chemo, drink lots of water and flush it out of your system as quick as you can.
Avatar f tn Remember, Tecfidera acts like Niacin does in your system. Once the body adjusts to the levels, the flushing stops. I have had NO GI problems. The only side-effect I am currently having is headache. Not migraine level, but a stubborn headache nonetheless. Hoping that this RX will work wonders for us all! Best of luck!
463841 tn?1207438535 Hello. Well, I had a question.. I've been hearing and reading a lot of posts from people about their experiences with the Niacinamide supplement, and how effective it seems to be with people suffering from anxiety. I just got myself the thing.. but I'm having thoughts on whether to take it or not. I'm currently on Xanax a .5 mg every night. So even if I did consider taking Niacinamide, it wouldn't be advisable to take it while I'm on Xanax at the same time would it?
Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.
Avatar f tn Is it safe for me to take Centrum Cardio Vitamins (with plant phytols) to help lower my cholesterol? Also, does buffered niacin (or non-flushing niacin) work equally as well as regular niacin in helping to lower cholesterol? And is it safe to take with coumadin?

Avatar f tn t plagued with all the Incivek side effects either. These are extremely strong drug treatments and effects your body in many more ways than talked about. I completed treatment 2 years ago and have gone through an array of health issues after the stress of hep C treatment. They have resolved but seeing a doctor and staying on top of you health after treatment is extremely important to your healthy recovery. My palipations and face flushing was heart related.
