Neurontin and back pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and back pain

neurontin

Avatar n tn If you use Aleve be careful if you are on Neurontin because is a small amount of cases Aleve will interact with Neurontin and cause a 12 - 15% increase in the absorption of the Neurontin (I know this from first hand experience).
1943759 tn?1324045251 My husband has severe pain in his lower back. He says it feels like a pintched nerve. This is the second time he gets it. He's been taking Advil for the pain and been putting ice hot but it doesnt help much. Is there something he can take for the pain? Its fraustrating to him because it affects his work (he's a driver).
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I noticed that you had used Lumbar Back Pain as your tag. Do you have back pain? I have many issues with my back including 5 surgerys and I have also taken Neurontin. It has not been effective in my teatment for pain but it has been effctive for my nerve issues. Good luck with everything.....
Avatar f tn I recently went to my GP to get help for ever stronger pains in my legs due to nerve damage in my back when he refused to increase my dose of oxycodone he gave me an anti epeliptic drug called GABAPENTIN, that day i started my 3 a day dose and to my supprize in the morning when i woke where id normally have rly bad cravings and terrible aches i woke calm ache free and no knotted feeling in my stomach ( i still had my back pain but thats due to real pain not withdrawls) i was slightly puzzle
Avatar f tn I was on it for 3-weeks prior to surgery and the drug did nothing for my pain. However, I am back on it post surgery from a D-cetomy back surgery. The drug is helping me with the pain and healing the nerve.
Avatar m tn That is what I call Tweeks, you get tweeked and more pain for about three days to a week. I was on Neurontin and actually have myofascial pain but they thought it may have been a nerve at first. The neurontin didn't do a thing for me. I was on 1200mg/day and it took me two months to get off of it because I got insomnia and had to take benedryl to get off of it and be able to sleep. It is low on side effects except feeling tired and dumb.
Avatar f tn Currently on 300 mgs. of neurontin 2 times a day for chronic pain. Can I smoke marijuana while taking this medication, or should I stop taking the meds. ? My goal is to get off the med. if marijuana will help the pain.
237053 tn?1258828426 m starting to have more good days than bad and my energy is better. Still having neck and shoulder pain and my monthly flares, but overall I think better. Just finished my 3 month mark and will be starting Amox, Zithromax, and Flagyl next. My LLMD is having me pulse them. Hopefully this will help more! Also have been prescribed Neurotin for my neuropathy (burning in feet, butt, and tongue), but haven't taken it yet. I've read that the side effects can be bad.
Avatar f tn From my own experience, and reading about others' experiences, and literature on doses expected to provide relief, then if I understood you correctly, that you're currently on 3,000 mg per day, I don't think Neurontin is going to work for you. I have back pain and it went away overnight with your medicine's cousin Lyrica. If I misread what you wrote, and you're just on 300mg daily, you may need some increases, as you said the doc would do, until you DO get relief.
Avatar f tn But, I read about botox injections and something else ....with medications that I am avoiding. For the moment, I take neurontin, and lamotrigine. And I was on morphine patches which I decided to stop. The doctor prescibed Trazadone which will help me sleep But, it is unfriendly to tardive dyskinesia;so, I plan to stop it as well......I appreciate your answering. It is hell.... At times, I feel so low that hope to die. Oh, I forgot: I am taking vit.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I can sit for up to 5-7 minutes before a flow begins. Not sure if it is the neurontin or a pain medication. I have nerve damage and need both medications.
Avatar f tn I have been having a lot of pain in my legs, back, hands and arms. Ibprofen and other things don't seem to help it. I do not know how to make if feel better. Some of it is in the muscles that are extremely tight and others seem like joint pain. Just wondering. My doctors won't prescribe anything else. I have tried Lyrica and a bunch of arthritis meds. Again I am undiagnosed so they are also trying to figure out what I have.
Avatar f tn m sitting in a vat of hot battery acid and this becomes a problem particularly when lying down because I have too much pain in my left shoulder to lie on it, too much pain in my right hip to lie on it, and then on my back, there is the burning, scalding pain that feels like the skin is being peeled off and the tailbone is being crushed. It is difficult to stand for even a few minutes because everything in the lower back and right hip and leg goes numb.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I take amitryptyline for pain and it does seem to help, though I should probably ask to raise the dosage. You definitely need to give it time though. The first two days I took it I felt like a complete zombie the next day, could barely function. But I decided to give it a week before giving up and I guess I adjusted to it, or it to me, and now I feel normal during the day, but it does help with the pain and sleep.
Avatar f tn I know opiates. I know the pleasure and pain of them. I got the neurontin from a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I have had sinus headaches and facial pain for many years. I ALWAYS have a sinus infection. At least thats what my regular doctor tells me. So I went to a specialist. Had some CAT scans. He has not read the films yet but said he does NOT feel its my sinuses since my nose is never runny or stuffy, its always clear and I am a definite nose breather..
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 38 year old female. I have bad back pain ( anywhere in back), shoulder pain and pain in right breast (normally in the same area) Have had some blood tests done and it did come back that i was b12 deficient. Not too sure what would be causing all the pain though.
Avatar m tn Spinal stenosis can cause a lot of nerve pain (burning throughout the low back into the hips, pulsating throb and achiness in the low back and hips, shooting pain and pins and needles sensation that runs through the buttocks and hips and down one or both legs). Nerve pain is best treated with anti-convulsants and SNRI/SSRI anti-depressants. Neurontin (generic: Gabapentin) or Lyrica (generic: NA) and Cymbalta (generic: NA) are good medications to try to help with this pain.
Avatar f tn I was put on it for neuro pain, but it made me feel spaced out and freaky didnt like the feeling and also I had to take it in dose stages which confused me LOL (doesnt take much). After 3 weeks I could not tolerate it any longer it didnt seem to do anything either for me anyway. However I know lots of people who have taken it with little side effects apart from putting on a lot of weight. (I kid you not). If you want pain relief I suppose you have to try these things and see how they go.
Avatar n tn i have been on neurontin for about 2 years. it can be used to treat nerve pain, and of course it's a seizure medication. It does work, however give it a bit to get into your system. Also, you may have to adjust your dosage depending on your tolerance to it. I was taking 600's twice a day, and it will make you dizzy, and not so much out of it, but a bit slow to react. however, everyone is different. Once they lowered my dose to 300, I was quite content on it.
Avatar m tn I mentioned neurontin awhile back. There was a news episode where a clinic was using it as part of a detox plan. I went from taking around 200 mg of hydro to cold turkey. I've been through withdrawals without it so I know exactly how much the suck! I used neurontin and was able to go on with life. I still had the chills and some anxiety, but you was bearable. It really helped me the most with sleep. The only side effect I had from it was a tinge of a headache and a little fuzzy headed.
Avatar f tn I was on neurontin for nerve pain following a spinal injury and prior to surgery. It relieved my nerve pain and the side effects lessened after a few days. I didn't take the full dose though, and I stopped taking it after the surgery.
Avatar f tn I take it you have had XRays, but have you ever seen an orthepedist to have nerve conduction studies? That would be one way to tell for sure if it is nerve related. Can you think back and remember if something happened 30 years ago, some kind of injury? You may also try a nerve specific pain reliever such as Neurontin and see if that's of benefit. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn Now, if I can beat this cold so I can get to the gym and start exercising maybe I can get the endorphins working and get rid of the pain I seem to be stuck with. If my nose will just settle, I do have back exercises I can do, but since most of those involve lying on my back I'm having a bit of a problem with doing them. I swear the other stuff is nerve type pain and I have no idea where that came from.
