Neurontin for abdominal pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for abdominal pain

neurontin

Avatar n tn Most of the time I still use the same number of pills per day of everything but I can switch up the schedule to get a milder or stronger effect depending on if I am having a good pain day or a flare up day. On flare up days, when I take the neurontin in conjunction with either percocet or valium 2 hours after the extended release morphine gets going, I get super fuzzy for awhile but my pain flare also goes down a lot too.
1298907 tn?1272886488 Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well today. It seems as if spring has finally come to Idaho! The sun is out & I'm excited to get out & try & work in my garden now that I'm feeling better this year! Yaaay! Can anyone tell I'm a stay at home mom who likes to talk? My 2 year old keeps me company all day & Lord knows I love him with all my heart but sometimes we all just need a little bit of adult conversation!
Avatar f tn My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.
Avatar f tn ve had a pain in my abdomen by the ribcage on the right side that radiates to my upper back and shoulder for about three years now. The intensity of the pain varies, some days are better than others. I've had many tests done including: ultrasound of the gallbladder, Hida Scan, abdominal CT, 2 lung x-rays, MRI of my spine, MRI of my neck, x-ray of my rib cage. All tests were normal.
Avatar f tn I am having really awful intermittent pain in my arm. My neuro wrote a script for Lyrica. My big concern about these nerve pain drugs (Neurontin too) is the weight gain side effect. I struggle w/weight as it is and don't look forward to adding more. Please let me know what you may have experienced.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have been on clonazepam for 30 years for cyclic vomiting syndrome/abdominal migraine. The sciatic pain is now intermittent (low one day high the next) and I have had it for 3 months. I see my NP tomorrow and wonder if there is anything I can suggest or ask for.
Avatar m tn My pain management dr has put me on Neurontin to help with thoracic back pain, I have herniated discs that basically are not going to be fixed, no doctor wants to touch it. My question is how is this drug for long term treatment of severe pain, he also has me on Norco but I am hesitant to take because of addiction potential. If anyone has any input please let me know.
Avatar f tn It is good you get some relief from Neurontin. Neurontin did nothing for my pain all it did was make me unable to remember anything and tired. It took me two months to get off of it due to the insomnia I had as I went down on it. I actually felt better after getting off of it. But, I don't have nerve pain. The first doctor assumed I did but it is myofascial pain syndrome. Sounds llike you don't know the cause of your pain yet? How did you get injured or what happened?
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn My sister in law has had abdominal pain for years and it is due to adhesions. She also has nerve pain. She takes a drug like neurontin and an antidepressant and that seems to help. There are some newer drugs like neurontin such as Lyrica and others. I hope this helps. I am currently doing biofeedback, accupunture, Flexeril and an NSAID to lower my pain.
Avatar m tn I also have a constant feeling of needing to urinate I have had a test where my Urologist looked in my bladder and found nothing. This pain is terrible it has been going on for 8 years anad I have had so many tests with no bad results they find nothing.
974371 tn?1424653129 Has anyone taken this for IBS? Saw a doctor at Stanford yesterday fir a second opinion. I had been tested by another specialist I had rapid gastric emptying and was put on Prozac and low dose Clonidine. Can't say I noticed much of a difference in lower abdominal pain, bloating, stomach pain and nausea.
Avatar m tn t work after the prescribed amount of time, go back to your doctor or get another opinion. Neurontin (or any med) may be excellent for someone else with your pain but may not work on you. Our bodies and brains are EXTREMELY different and it isn't wise to take non-MD suggestions.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn Neurontin is not really geared for the direct neck pain. Neurontin is for the pain that radiates in the limbs. I was told this by two doctors and I did try it anyways. I have very severe neck pain. Is this something they can surgically fix? If it is, then I would be looking for a good neurosurgeon asap. It may not take care of the pain, but it will stop from the progressing damage that may occur. Your injury is at a very dangerous level. Good luck with the spinal tap today.
459075 tn?1224121598 Neurontin is useful in decrasing neuropathic pain. After all these surgeries, neurontin is definitively helpful in reducing post surgical pain. You seem to have become addicted to neurontin. The symptoms of dizziness and blurred vision may be a side effect of long term neurontin use or it may be due to some other pathology. It can be due to hypoglycemia, cerebrovascular disease, TIA or stroke.
Avatar f tn 1 week later, intense abdominal pain, eased off and then 36 hours later with nausea, diarrhea and different abdominal pain - felt like food poisoning but not so intense. Had antibiotics for possible diverticulitis, specimens taken for bacteria etc. . Question: could this hip pain and then abdo pain be caused by nerves affected by the chiari?
700212 tn?1240760820 My docter just prescribed me neurontin for what they are calling "nerve" pain. Have any of you ever taken it?...is it good or bad?...Ive heard both and Ive been trying to look it up...but I just started treatment also and I already take enough pills...but if its going to help I willtake it...My right leg has alot of nerve damage and deep scar tissue and it bothers me pretty bad...but for some reason they wont prescribe me pain meds that I can just take when Im in pain...
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
Avatar m tn That is what I call Tweeks, you get tweeked and more pain for about three days to a week. I was on Neurontin and actually have myofascial pain but they thought it may have been a nerve at first. The neurontin didn't do a thing for me. I was on 1200mg/day and it took me two months to get off of it because I got insomnia and had to take benedryl to get off of it and be able to sleep. It is low on side effects except feeling tired and dumb.
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have many issues with my back including 5 surgerys and I have also taken Neurontin. It has not been effective in my teatment for pain but it has been effctive for my nerve issues. Good luck with everything.....
564491 tn?1320360393 This past year, I have headaches/eye pain, neck pain, etc. I have tried almost every medication and procedure recommended. I am now taking Neurontin, and am wondering if anyone takes Neurontin, what dosage has been helpful, and if it has made a difference in the condition of your headaches/migraines. Thanks so much.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I was on gabapentin (neurontin) 900mg 3 times daily for approx. 2 years... it works wonders for neuropathetic pain I was taking it along with 100mg of Lyrica 3 times daily. WhenI had my gastric bypass surgery in December I came off the neurontin and stayed only on the Lyrica. I agree with the others try it... just remember to give it a chance it won't work overnight.
Avatar f tn both are also used for treatment of chronic pain, particularly chronic pain that is thought to arise from too much nerve activity. I have not heard patients complain of withdrawal symptoms from neurontin, although I do usually taper it off just out of caution. While the jerking of your body might be related to suddenly stopping the medication, it is hard to see the numbness as related-- at least not as a direct effect.
1855076 tn?1337115303 Just never really see much about it and heard that it really is great for some people for nerve pain. (I believe it was originally an anti-seizure medication.
Avatar n tn i had neck surgry Jan 2012. i am still in a lot of pain at times due to my work. will neurontin. have any effects on the muscle relaxer i take now, which is tizadine?
Avatar f tn From my own experience, and reading about others' experiences, and literature on doses expected to provide relief, then if I understood you correctly, that you're currently on 3,000 mg per day, I don't think Neurontin is going to work for you. I have back pain and it went away overnight with your medicine's cousin Lyrica. If I misread what you wrote, and you're just on 300mg daily, you may need some increases, as you said the doc would do, until you DO get relief.
1359227 tn?1282522148 Has anybody tried Neurontin? Does it work for nerve pain? How long does it take to take effect? My doctor prescribed it for me today...I haven't picked it up yet...I'm hoping it will help..
